Renaud Lavoie interviewed Hughes seconds before the draft and all his questions were around Michkov.
Renaud gonna Renaud.

Oh I agree I was probably one of the first to be certain Suzuki was a PPG player if we surrounded him properly. Both he and Caufield could probably have already hit those numbers if Monahan had stayed healthy and Dach remained on their wing. I just don't think we have enough talent yet to have them breakout to that extent.Sure for now, no problem. But Ceiling is plausibly higher if and when Guhle and Reinbacher have a couple more years under their belt and if Matheson can still dominate the play.
I would have loved to add Leonard......but, anyhow...Yeah me too but looking back it would not have changed the idea that we were drafting for need because we don't have a Leonard type in our program.
The backlash would have been just as fierce only that girl would be presenting the notebook to Leonard and not Reinbacher.
Interesting.....................and yet so many think Michkov was the sexy and best pick. This will probably read like some sort of copy pasta, but whatever.
I have a friend who works for TVA Sports, and was in Nashville to help their draft coverage. He and some other employees ran into Michkov twice during the week. First time, Michkov was with a cowboy boots seller, where he was yelling at the vendor and threw the boots at him. Second time, was when Michkov arrived at the arena for Draft night where he threw a tantrum because there was a waiting line to get in. There is way more going on with Michkov than what you can see on the ice.

I was looking forward to have an attacker with star potential out of the draft this year, but if we drafted the best defenseman in the draft that happens also to play on the right side, that could be also a massive win for the franchise.
Sometimes people are just assholes.Interesting.....................and yet so many think Michkov was the sexy and best pick.
Kids can mature and in pro sports, there is always a vet who can show a kid, the right way to behave etc so......................but thanks for sharing.
I didn't see anything like this get reported which is strange if it happened. That would be like gold for the Habs spin doctors. This will probably read like some sort of copy pasta, but whatever.

Cant wait to see video of that boot throwing incident who should be viral by now. Will be funny to see Michkov yelling in Russian to a Nashville vendor. Interview of the vendor should be available any minute right? This will probably read like some sort of copy pasta, but whatever.

The chances are very high someone would have captured something like that on their phone and posted it.Cant wait to see video of that boot throwing incident who should be viral by now. TVA sport would make a hit with that.
Medias don't report on hearsay. Especially on a draft pick the week of the draft.I didn't see anything like this get reported which is strange if it happened. That would be like gold for the Habs spin doctors.
I live in Moscow and I can add that he was hitting on my wife. This will probably read like some sort of copy pasta, but whatever.

It would already have come to light had it been recorded last week. The chances are very high someone would have captured something like that on their phone and posted it.
My gut feeling is that you don't trust him because it's convenient to do so, as he didn't draft Michkov but you would.
Michkov was accompanied by 3 bodyguards for the whole week, it could explain the lack of video.Cant wait to see video of that boot throwing incident who should be viral by now. Did you have a great laugh at his expense with your russian wife? All indications pointnto Michkov being our most electric player then.I live in Moscow and I can add that he was hitting on my wife.
Reinbacher isnt twice the player Benson is. Hes literally the best CHL junior passer since Mcdavid. You dont have to bring down a prospect to prop up the other.I have to highlights a paradox.
People are mad that we haven't drafted Michkov. Fair.
But i think if we drafted Benson, it would have been well received because the perception would have been that we would have aimed for high octane offense.
When in reality, Reinbacher is twice the player that Benson is.
Its all about perception, isnt it?
Yeah. Also, Hitler is getting a bad rap these days. This new generation of snowflake players are so soft. Can't even handle a coupla death threats over here.
Matvei the BULLI live in Moscow and I can add that he was hitting on my wife.
Would you trade Caufield for Sergachev? There, answer.Ultimately the floor of Reinbacher was valued over the ceiling of Michkov. There’s no use arguing about it further. Either Michkov will surpass Reinbacher or he won’t. If you guys want to argue something how about this:
Let’s say Reinbacher becomes a high quality #2 Dman- top pair, 2nd unit PP, high end defence and 40ish points a season.
What type of production does Michkov need to have to surpass that? 80p? 90p? 100p? And let’s assume Michkov is a defensive liability winger ala Hoffman.
Its the upside of Reinbacher that is valued. He wasnt picked because of his floor.Ultimately the floor of Reinbacher was valued over the ceiling of Michkov. There’s no use arguing about it further. That’s a tough question my friend!Would you trade Caufield for Sergachev? There, answer.
#2 d is such a weird term, most #2 we think of are second pairing guys who play complimentary roles beside true number one guys. Guys like mark Methot, Seidenberg, etc. Hell victor mete and alexi Emelin were our #2s for a full season each.Ultimately the floor of Reinbacher was valued over the ceiling of Michkov. I don’t think I was hostile. You boiled down a whole post to one line and are ignoring what I wrote.Your line-by-line replies are a bit hard to follow especially when they split through linked statements. You've made a hostile confrontation where there really didn't need to be.
And I agreed with you on that point and said so.The commentary I put forth in reply to @Schooner Guy, @BaseballCoach, and @Garo was I believe simply that there was no master-plan which meant the Habs were exceptionally so focused on the transition game in 2023 that they held it as a draft priority. No, rather I believe simply that the Habs ranked Reinbacher over Michkov for a variety of reasons and so they picked him.
Okay. And?Some evidence for my position is that in 2022 the first two picks of the rebuild, including the lottery pick which has a more direct impact on the NHL roster due to their odds of making it, were forwards not defenders. The 1OA could've gone anywhere given how there was no front-runner as the 2022 draft approached and the Habs specifically did not mention any defenders in their top3 options leading to the draft. It seems clear to me they just picked whoever they thought was best at that position, in both draft years.
Absolutely. They’d have taken Fantilli.In 2023 Had they had the 3OA they wouldn't have picked a d-man,
Again, I don’t disagree. They went for who they thought was BPA. They clearly didn’t trust Mich.I think if they had the 4OA they would've picked Smith. There is no master-plan or iterative stepwise approach -- so that rationalization for Reinbacher at 5OA is unnecessarily complicated. They clearly picked BPA rather than need -- this is an argument partially in defence of the Habs and Big Brain Hughes, not in opposition to them!!
