A wise man moves on from what he cannot change.
There is nothing to be wise about nor to move from.

None of this has any bearing on my life choices. It’s just entertainment. I’m saving my wise man thinking for things that matter, not some kid or billionaire getting richer. They’ll do great with or without me.

Hutson wasn't a first round pick. It's a long-shot prospect, the kind of homerun swing I think we all love to see. It's very cool to have him immediately become our blue chip prospect but he wasn't drafted with an excruciatingly difficult to attain lottery pick. In 2022 Slafkovsky was not the only option at 1, nor Wright. So far it looks like the Habs were wrong to have narrowed it down to those two. If a smooth transition game was so important in 2023, it should've been accounted for in 2022 as well.
You just said we didn’t draft a blueliner in the last draft. We did. And he’s looking like a huge steal.

Not a first rounder so he doesn’t count? Go pound sand.
I think it's BS post-hoc justification of a controversial decision. The Habs thought Reinbacher's prospect profile was better than Michkov's and they went with that. If they had Smith available at 5 they would've likely taken Smith the soft, unidimensional forward. It has nothing to do with "building out of the defence" or 'preferring to put the fundamentals of a transition game in place' or whatever rationalization we will hear in the days and weeks to come. They simply thought Reinbacher was the best pick at that position. It's perfectly fine for them to think so -- I don't even dislike the pick -- but the strategy at play is the same YOU'VE criticised or doubted in recent days so I'm not sure why the disagreeable tone with me yet again.
I agree with you. They thought RB was better and so they drafted him.

And I don’t agree with their decision and have said so. But I understand the rationale. You seem to mistake this as being an apologist. It’s not.

I do not agree with the decisions they made on the first pick in the last two drafts. But I’m not going to blast anyone until I see the results.

As for Reinbacher, four teams skipped on Reinbacher too. He wasn't a consensus best prospect. Look at 5OA picks of the last X years, a lot of busts there. It's perfectly valid to express hope for a prospect (as we all do) but to trash other prospects and act entitled to the success of our own is laughable -- ours can bust too!! Every prospect can bust.
Four teams passed on him because there were four safe offensive picks that were ranked higher. We had the 5th pick so I’m not sure what you think you’re proving here.
As for Hughes... he gets fired and he picks up his stuff and goes onto his next gig, much like Bergevin did. You know exactly what I mean, so why play coy?
?????

If he shits the bed he gets fired. Last time I looke MB wasn’t the GM of any team. Do you seriously think this guy doesn’t care?

How easy would it have been for him to just take Mich and Wright? He never would’ve got fired for that.
The only long-term stakeholders in the Habs are us, who've outlasted every GM and coach and player and owner and will outlast the current ones too. If they whiffed on the Slaf pick and the Reinbacher pick it will hurt us a lot more than it hurts them. It's part of being a fan vs being a pro.
And?

poulliot before Kopitar, OMG. The baloney sandwich before the T-Bone steak and fries.

Kopitar didn't even go top 10 if I remember correctly. He was a bit of wildcard, but it ended up great for LA.

Montreal is not the only one that held pouliot highly as indicated with him being taken before price.

I can't argue with taking price. The draft has so many variables. When you hit, just be happy and run. I'd have felt the same with Kopitar too.

I do like how passing on michkov falls directly on Montreal's shoulders, for this will be the first draft year in history where the top 4 picks live up to their pre draft forecasts
Yeah. Especially SJ took Will Smith ahead of Michkov but nobody seems to think anything of it. As if taking Will Smith over Michkov is completely a no-brainer, but taking Reinbacher over Michkov is SUCH a travesty. I'm fairly certain quite a few scouts had Reinbacher over Will Smith.

If they had Smith available at 5 they would've likely taken Smith
This seems to be consensually accepted but i am all but sure they would have taken Smith over Reinbacher.

Strong possibility in my opinion that he was higher than Smith on many list and on Montreal one.

Roher & Reinbacher are both Austrians so I figured they knew each other from WJC but it turns out they grew up in villages 12km apart (with Marco Rossi also), they've known each other since they were 7.

Rainbacker solid defense but some point Habs going to have to put a Tkachuk or Eichel type package together and trade for a star. They made big difference in Vegas and Florida. Need star to win. Star don't come up for trade often though. We may have missed our only opportunity. Quite gamble Hughes took

If we end up having a glut of defencemen they have very good trade value.

A player like Nylander or pld would likely be available in a 1 for 1 for a young top 4 d. Not elite first liners but good top 6 players.

It can go real bad if scouts are right on Michkov. If he's the next Bure or Malkin. Canadiens been starving for goals for 30 goals. UFA won't sign here you know. Teams don't trade 100 point guys often.

Whatever happens with michkov has zero effect on the Montreal Canadiens. 100 point players aren't always what they're cracked up to be either

Huberdeau, Gaudreau, Marner, none are great in the playoffs.

But let's wait until michkov scores 100 points before we cry any more shall we?

That's good for you, but some here.....

I'm not gonna spend anytime arguing with you. The tone has very clearly changed from draft night/thursday morning and a lot of it is because of their use of the media to project their message for the fans to calm down.

I wasn't a fan of the pick but I'm ok with it now. I have watched zero Habs press conferences and read zero communications from them. It's just from reading about Reinbacher's achievements.

Hard to remember now but I think Kopitar went 11th or 13th. Some doubts because he is not from a typical hockey country. Pouliot had a sick 2nd half to his draft year which is why he rose so much. I was skeptical, but Brule was the guy I wanted at the time.

Reinbacher got death threats ?
I'm not aware of the reaction to what's been going on. So I'll just say what should happen.

1. I hope the police are involved and hunting any scum that acted in a manner that violated the criminal law.
2.The Habs, HUGO and Molson must have a 5 minute presser where they use words such as degenerate scum , and they are not fans and nor wanted, in reference to those who attacked the kid.
3. Hire 10 top level computer hackers to track these people down and then call them out publicly.
4. Any scum that has seasons tickets, gone. And they are banned from games.

We need to protect the players. This is not about a fans prerogative to boo, this is about crossing the line and harrasing a young man.

No mealy mambi pambi this will just make it worse etc. You fight bullies exposing them to the light and punching them in the head.

Do this and it will send a big message to back off the players.

Habs have the resources and access to specialists, if they want to deal with it. Wouldn’t be surprised if both some minors as well as judgment impaired adults were involved. Let the cops sort it out. We’re just innocent bystanders hoping for the best. Nothing more we can do.
