His compete is just brutal. Not just games, but training and practice. This has been a glaring issue for a long time. Always just going through the motions. When he is working on his 1 timer, it's a stand still windmill. Contrast with Hughes, who treats everything like a game situation. Even if it's against an empty net, he's adding little extra moves, envisioning real opposition and goalies infront of him. The little videos posted throughout camp/offseason ect. it's a huge difference. No surprise he went from muffin to howitzer in a matter of months.
In the top fraction of a % in the world, if you aren't getting better, then you're getting worse. This is why EP's tools are in full decline. I can't imagine him making a play like Hoglander did last night. Taking the foul and still ending up with the shot. EP just hits the ice and hopes for a PP.
Dude is BONE dry after every game. No need for a shower.
