Hell, EP40 was suppose to be back because Miler isn't on the team anymore. 15 points in 10 games without Miller were being paraded around the Canucks discussion boards as proof. So is it injuries or is it Miller? If it's both then how did he get 15 points in those 10 games while injured?

It is probably more due to Hughes being out now. When Miller was gone before, EP40 got a chance to play more with Hughes which helped his numbers.

Sure, you'd like to see a star forward be able to generate more without a superstar defenseman. However at this point in time he's probably dependent on Hughes to help get the offense we're looking for.

If EP40 were making 6m right now, I wouldn't be happy. It's not just the play, it's the attitude. He's saying the right things, but it's not showing on his face or on the ice.

Every time he is on the ice he should tilt the play in our favor. Every time is on the ice he should demand the puck, create dynamic plays and have the opposing players on their heels. Every time we are down a goal he should be the one leading the team down the ice. He should be noticeable. He should OWN the middle of the ice.

He is a massive massive let down as a player. He is not a cultural fit whatsoever. They paid for Mackinnon and ended up with a Bonino.

I think people misunderstand what comes with that large of a salary. You're also paid to figure shit out quickly. Thats part of the expectation in the wage he is earning.. Youre not supposed to be a headache. Youre not supposed to go through long term poor play.

11.6 M is a Mack, Drai, Kuch and McD. Absolute beast mode 24/7/365 every time youre on the ice.

Lets be real..Everytime the Oilers are down a goal with 2 min left in the game you know whos gonna come on the ice. You know whos gonna ask for the puck. You know theyre gonna set up the same play and most of the time they absolutely deliver.

Leon Draisaitl and his consistency is absolutely absurd. Dude is just a total machine every time he is on the ice. You stand and scream at your TV knowing he is on the ice and know exactly where he is gonna set up and the opposing team has their best players and he just gets it done over and over and over.

THAT IS 11.6M dollars a year. He makes EP40 look like a ECHL player

What is your point ? What is the point of these rants ? Petterson got 112 points in the first 85 games of Tocchets tenure. And outscored Draisitle at one point last year. And had more team success than him.

Draisitle was one of the leaders of that Oilers team that went on that losing streak and lost the infamous game to the Sharks. He has is own problems.

We drafted Petterson. They drafted Draisitle. This efficient market hypothesis where player x makes this much means he must score this much doesn't exist.

His compete is just brutal. Not just games, but training and practice. This has been a glaring issue for a long time. Always just going through the motions. When he is working on his 1 timer, it's a stand still windmill. Contrast with Hughes, who treats everything like a game situation. Even if it's against an empty net, he's adding little extra moves, envisioning real opposition and goalies infront of him. The little videos posted throughout camp/offseason ect. it's a huge difference. No surprise he went from muffin to howitzer in a matter of months.

In the top fraction of a % in the world, if you aren't getting better, then you're getting worse. This is why EP's tools are in full decline. I can't imagine him making a play like Hoglander did last night. Taking the foul and still ending up with the shot. EP just hits the ice and hopes for a PP.

I don’t get how you get most of this take.

Again he absolutely needs to be better, but his struggle is completely on the offensive side of the puck and are not compete related at all.

Probably confidence, and poor training due to injury that has just snowballed into what we see now that is a player playing to not make mistakes.

We have seen him working with coaches after practice putting in the extra work, we saw him even last night making diving plays.

His problems which he currently has many are not compete or effort based.

The minute we trade him he'll go back to being the same PPG centre he's been his entire career until whatever ancient curse he awakened last year happened. 5/6 years pacing 30-40 goals 80-90 points until January last year.

I will not argue what he is right now or why he is what he is right now.

However, teams don't win cups without a legit 1C. The unfortunate reality is that we have a much higher likelihood of EP returning to 1C form than we do of netting a 1C back in an EP trade and we have nothing in the pipeline at C to replace him.

This right here is all it boils down to, when it comes to keeping Petey or not.

Until, or unless, Allvin gets another 1C, there is no other logical play aside from keeping and working with him and try to get the "old Petey" back.

Will it happens? Who knows, but the alternative (trading him) will not make us a better team.

I think he needs to hire a personal fitness trainer or if he has one already, a better one. His lack of athleticism looks obvious to me. I'm concerned that he's too proud to admit that he needs help on that front

Not even just the hockey. Look at the body language. Doesnt talk, doesnt celebrate, doesnt smile.

Lack of athleticism, lack of drive, lack of passion.

How do you not get motivated after seeing guys like Chytil, EP25, making those kind of plays and not say "this is my city" and show them youre the best player.

This isn't a '1 year stretch' EP sucked before last January too, just had a pile of points like the rest of the team to hide it. Some of his worst games came November-Dec 2023.

This is a 5 year stretch, with the exception of most of his 5th season, and January of last year. His numbers over that time never passed the eye test. Statistical anomalies. It's no coincidence his 1 big year led to being barely out of the draft lottery. His play is not conductive to winning, he fades against top teams and at key moments. The PP being the biggest one, game management is 100% a thing, and he can't clutch up in the moments refs give the team a chance to win/tie games.

No matter how many charts and obscure stats people want to base bad arguments on, hockey is just not a sport that can be boiled down to numbers like that, too many variables.

His problems can't be measured in work hours, or miles per hour. He plays soft, practices soft, trains soft. He doesn't have that dawg in him.
