This coach isnt a good fit. I dont like the way hes handling the kids.

I want Chytil up and Smith sent down.

This guy needs to go.

umm i bet Quinn is just doing what Gorts wants him to do and raise trade value of the trash like Kreider Fast Strome etc

The whole Andersson vs Howden thing is really starting to remind me of the Pionk vs ADA gripes from the last two years. One guy seemingly gifted minutes while the other can do no right and fans complain of coaching bias. Yet somehow both players end up better for it in the long run. Almost as if this coach realizes different players need different treatment in order to grow.

And the better (as universally agreed) player stayed in the organization while the other one is gone.

My gripe has more to do with that Howden didn't earn himself an opportunity to be 2C, but using this argument then to complain about why Andersson (who hasn't earned it either) is not given a chance is a high school level silliness.

Again people can see what they want to see and so I'm seeing Strome gaining form and performing better than any other options for 2C at the moment and I'd move Panarin to be 2LW to deepen the line up (letting Quinn to decide his RW rotation among Buchnevich, Kakko and Fast).

I am not stupid. I know DQ will murder his entire family and live stream it before ever sitting staal. I just don;t think it is much to ask for a coach who isnt a coward and can make the tough decisions when they need to be made. Sending Krav and Chytil down was smart. Krav was clearly struggling with the speed of the game and Chytil was visibly struggling. Playing smith on the 3rd and giving staal 20+ a game is not. Smith takes 1 or more stupid as **** penalties a game. Most don't need to be taken. He gets beaten clean on the boards when he is defending so acting like he can play two way forward game is a stretch. Staal although not as bad as he was 2 years ago is a train wreck this season and should be the 6th defender not the 2nd. Last game he was easily the worst player on the team and got to get more minutes while younger players had to pay for making mistakes less dangerous then his. Its a god damn joke.

Let's start with the fact that neither Staal nor Skjei can be healthy scratch at this point because they don't have an extra D here. So if this is your gripe please post it in Gorton or Davidson's thread first as at this moment a front office move needed.

I am talking about shifts not games so you can take your generalizations else where.

Imagine this team performing the way they currently are under Torts. He would rip them to pieces and rightfully so.
Torts loved his share of bad players who "hustled" too but at least he played a tight and straightforward system where stiff and unimaginative hockey made sense.

Quinn asks individual players to "defend," I guess, but the team doesn't. That's why fans are so unclear on what exactly he wants.

Similarly, AV always wanted to play run-n-gun, fastbreak hockey, but loved grinders.

At least be consistent.

Torts is also flexible and aware of his roster. He’s adapted his style to the talents of his rosters. The contrast between his style in TB and his style in NY speaks volumes to his coaching abilities.

9 times out of 10, the issue on these boards are posters thinking we have a more dynamic and talented roster than we actually do. Here we go again.

Who thinks that?

Just stop putting non-NHL players on the ice more than you have to. How is that thinking we have a dynamic roster?

Most people expected to suck. We'd rather suck with Andersson and Kakko playing hockey as opposed to Howden and Smith.

Maybe he means people who thought Trouba and AP were the answers to our prayers — that a 1LF, 1RD, a raw rookie and an unproven RW fresh from the KHL would morph us into contenders. Even with Letang, Crosby and Malkin, Athens Penguins needed more than a few pieces to win their cups.

I dont really have a problem with the young guys being brought along slowly. Where I do differ from our arguments of the past is that, unlike the Torts and AV years, this is clearly a team that has next to no mandate to really compete - so, I can't see an excuse for deferring to veterans when the going gets tough. Kreider should get a whirl on the 4th line. Staal shouldn't be matching up against the oppositon's top line, Haley and McKegg should not both be in the lineup together. What IS Brendan Smith exactly?

These are decisions that are much tougher to defend with a rebuilding group.

I think the identity / character of the team needs to match that of the coach. We don’t have a team culture. We have many offensively gifted players, without question, but consider the following question: The NY Rangers could be best described as:

A) Hard-working
B) Intelligent
C) Organized
D) Dynamic

I don’t think we fall under any of those — and I would argue that a competitive team needs to dominate one of those fields and be competitive in at least one more.

Really? So Skjei being out of rotation for a long stretch and the team rotating 5 was not enough? Take Staal too and go with 3RW-1LW?
Yeah so you clearly arent paying attention. STAAL SHOULD HAVE SAT BEFORE BRADY DID AND DIDN'T. Its not complicated to understand. Brady was playing bad and sat for it. Staal was playing worse and didn't.

My biggest concern at the moment is the team doesn't seem too hardworking -- I thought they worked extremely hard last year with a worse roster.

Quinn is at a cross-roads. He has to start catering more to his individual players strengths here and there rather than just blanket cliches about handling all 3 zones and working hard. Maybe he can put his mark on an extremely young guy like Kakko, but guys like Panarin and Trouba are what they are. And you're not going to see Panarin bulldoze a guy on the forecheck anytime soon.

Absolutely. Frankly, I’m content with AP’s tenacity when backchecking, and I don’t have many complaints about Trouba. They’re both doing their jobs well. But we need a coach with more, if you will, gravitas. Quinn seems somehow detached.

Lol, so we are back to square 1. Skjei deserved to be benched but Staal deserved more and you're upset that Staal didn't get to sit while Skjei did? (This is a high school level appeal, I leave it at that).
