Marchand didn't break out until after he signed his current deal. He signed this deal in September 2016.

At that point he was a 25 goal 50 point PK specialist who's best season was 37-24-61. He signed for exactly his market value.

I generally agree, although he signed it towards the end of the World Cup where he showed he has potential to be more than just that. So it was already a bit of a steal at that point, only to become a huge steal in hindsight.
