Love them both --and am fine with the deals, but man....... Pasta and McAvoy eating up about 1/4 of the cap next year is eye opening!

I know just about every good team is in the same boat -- but, just wow.
They’ve been fortunate that guys like Bergeron, Marchand, and Pastrnak have been on sweetheart team friendly deals up until now.

The check is coming due, no doubt.

But they have enough talent at the parent club level to stay competitive moving forward, at least short term.

They’ve used up every bullet in the chamber though.

Good deal for both player and the team................thinking Marchand wants to fire his agent though....

I think Marchand is fine with his contract. Just think of that recent tweet when he said, "I doubt guys are taking less to stay there", i.e. like he is in Boston.

Here's my take -- obviously, roster players are getting moved or not getting brought back next year. Maybe they recoup some picks? I mean their first this year will be similar to a lot of teams 2nd... maybe JDB, Grizz bring back a 1 and a 2? Forbort a 3 or prospect?

Regardless, they're set up for success this year and I for one, appreciate what Sweeney and this team have done thus far.

You don't think Marchand is underpaid by about 3.5M? He took a huge hometown discount....others now have not.

No, he didn't take any discount. This narrative needs to end.

Marchand didn't break out until after he signed his current deal. He signed this deal in September 2016.

At that point he was a 25 goal 50 point PK specialist who's best season was 37-24-61. He signed for exactly his market value.

Thank goodness I can get a reverse retro pooh bear now. Was waiting for a Pasta deal before ordering. Matter of fact was about to say screw it and just go with Marchand or Lindholm since Pasta had not signed. Really wanted Pasta though since he has a 90s vibe which is perfect for the 90s vibe of the jersey.

These past 6 days have been insane. Ullmark scores a goal. Bs pull a win straight out of their ass in OT. New guys from Washington looking great. Bertuzzi is brought in. Pasta is signed for 8 years. What next?

The Stanley Cup.

That’s what next.
Haha. I meant this week. But a Cup would be nice down the road. It's hard for my tiny mind to absorb all these happenings of the past 6 days in such a short amount of time. I think more excitement has been generated by the Bs this week than in entire seasons during the lean years.

It's more than fair. Pasta took a 1-2 million dollar discount. Thank him.
Once McDavid re-signs for 16-17m per in 2 years this Pastrnak deal will look great.

Pastrnak JUST signed for slightly less than Mitch Marner’s 10.9m per which expires in 2 seasons. Fair to assume Marner will be looking for 13m +

DeBrusk has transitioned into a core player imo. Depends on what he wants on his next contract. I love his game & his enthusiasm. Kid is a gamer. Keep if possible
I like him a lot as well, but at some point they may have to give up a player they don't want to get that long term C, unless one of their C prospects breaks out big time, or an FA comes here....don't see either happening anytime soon though.

Fair assessment. Lots of factors to consider. Do Krejci & Bergeron return for another season? They’re both playing high level hockey. What does DeBrusk expect on his next contract? Does Lysell factor in at RW soon?

If push came to shove and I had to choose between keeping Hall at 6m or signing DeBrusk at 6m, I give the edge to DeBrusk. He has the clutch gene.

Yeah some good points, if Krejci returns I'd personally be surprised, but I think Bergy just might do it.

And I Definitely agree on the last point...if there's a way to move Hall/Coyle to create some cap space this offseason i think you gotta do it. Love both players, but 11.5 mil between two third line guys is a lot for what is a luxury at this point.

Now, please don't think I am standing up for the interloper but I'm not sure I agree with this. He signed coming off a 37 goal season. It was absolutely looked at as a discount at the time, just not the massive one it's proven to be since.

You are right tho, that he truly broke out after signing. It's really a stupid proposition to say he was mad at his agent. "Hey I started being a PPG+ player after signing my deal. I really need to fire this guy for not seeing it coming"
