Confirmed Signing with Link: [DAL] Jamie Benn (8 years, $9.5M AAV)

lol so max term is a fantastic deal?

He's 35 when the contract expires and not 38 or even 40 like some other players. Yeah it can be sketchy there too but what you gonna do , not sign him ?

I find it funny to read people saying how great or "fantastic" a deal this.

Almost 10 mill for 8 more years. Let's just say he's getting paid, it's a fair contract that needed to be given and nothing more.

Not good, not great, it's simply fair, he's earned it. But it's still a massive amount of money.

As we all know with the Lucic deal that power forwards degrade at a much higher rate. Using the same logic that was thrown around in the Lucic thread, this one appears to be even worse considering it's for $9.5 and takes him beyond 34.

Dallas fans should feel shame about this terrible terrible deal.

I find it funny you think Benn and Lucic are even close to comparable.

Yes. He got maximum term, $1 million less than the two largest contracts in the NHL, which were signed when the cap was expected to rise steadily.

A steal it isn't.

I was expecting straight 10 mil per for 8 years so I'm happy with this. Face of the franchise and one of the league's best players locked up through his prime. Basically every player who signs a long term big money contract in their late 20's ends up overpaid during the last few years, it's just the way these things go.

Benn has been underpaid for the last 3 years or so relative to what he brings to the table. All things considered I really like this as a Stars fan. I really didn't want to go into this season without him signed and having to deal with all of that talk.

He's had serious injuries and surgeries. Can his body hold up for 8 years?

Never had any problems during the seasons though.

The current one he felt he pulled a muscle or something and went to the doctors . Those said he could play without surgery but risk potentially pulling it out so he got surgery while there's still time to do it.

Great deal there hes gonna win a few art ross trophies in that 8 years for player with the most points

Good for Dallas and for him

Other than the emergency appendectomy, what injury has made him miss significant time? It sure wasn't his hips during his Art Ross win.

You guys are forgetting about his susceptibility to skate cuts! Any day now he's going to have his leg cut off by some Calgary Flame or other, then where will we be? Also the 2 concussions from when he was a rookie, look out for James Wisneiwski!

Thats a massive deal, but he was obviously going to get it when you look at Kopitar, Toews and Kane. I imagine it won't be a great deal at the end of the contract where you generally end up overpaying a bit as the player gets near their mid 30's but thats hardly something to really worry about. I'd way rather have Benn at 9.5 than I would Toews at 10.5, and thats really not even close imo.

What seperates him from that tier is the cups. Kopitar, Kane, Towes have mutliple cups thats why they get the bigger bucks. Still 9.5 makes Benn one of the top 5 paid players I think.
