Honestly I doubt it will go up all that much. 9.5 million will still be a lot. Not sure why people feel it is so guaranteed, I would love to borrow their crystal ball. I however think that Jamie will still be very productive at that age though.

Take a look how much it has gone up the past 9 years, while it may not be as drastic, its gonna go up.

Look at the last three years. It has gone from 69 to 71.4 now to 73. it is stagnating. It should keep going up for a while but in 5-6 years it wont be over 80.

Benn will be getting paid as a top player in this league through his whole contract. That is scary for Dallas fans considering Benn is a power forward and those guys don't last long into their 30's without drops in play.

I love how people think this for a top-3 forward in the game, but had no problems saying Stamkos was worth $10.5m+ until he was 34.

Benn is worth it, you're getting incredibly good value for his prime years.

9.5M per.

Makes you wonder if McDavid will be the first to get 11M per.

Nah, $9.7m for 8 years on his first extension, he'll make a ton through endorsements and sponsors similar to Crosby.

Dallas has no state taxes like Tampa does for stamkos so that helps

Yeah, I know, but I though for sure Kopitar's 10/8 was the baseline for what he would have settled on.

I was expecting him to fall in around 10.5 / year, he really could have strong armed Dallas into paying him top dollar.

He left a little on the table IMHO, good for the stars going forward.

Wow he was a 5th round pick, when did Dallas/Fans release they had drafted such a talent?

He's pretty much improved each and every year since first joining the Stars.

Hell, after his first full season with Dallas he immediately jumped to the Stars' AHL team - because at the time Dallas was nowhere near the playoffs  - and he had a monster playoff run with Texas. Didn't win the Calder Cup that year but it was just a sign of things to come with Jamie.

Adding Seguin to the team was what helped trigger Benn's catapult into the upper echelon of NHL players. That is not to say Seguin alone is responsible for Benn's performance, but he's definitely made a positive impact both on and off the ice alongside the Stars' captain.

I still think a 100-point season is attainable for Jamie Benn, hopefully he recovers well enough from the surgery and dominates again next season. Tops in total points over the last two years, here's hoping that trend continues. :yo:

Go through my post history and find any place where i said Stamkos was worht over 10.

Unlike most people i was able understand Stamkos was not the same player after the injury.

Benn is wroth the contract as a whole but lets not pretend in years 7-8 he will be worth 9.5.

What seperates him from that tier is the cups. Kopitar, Kane, Towes have mutliple cups thats why they get the bigger bucks. Still 9.5 makes Benn one of the top 5 paid players I think.

I know this actually factors into contracts, but I always thought it was stupid logic. GM builds a team that can win a cup, then overpays individual players for playing on the good team built by that GM (or his predecessor).

I'm not directing it at you, but lots of people in this thread.

Who cares, he is easily worth 11m right now, theyre only gettinf 9.5 because of the term.

Unfortunately, this wasn't a "discount" which is where Dallas loses a bit. He's worth the money but I feel like $8.5-9m was possible.

Wow !! Huge contract !! Locking up someone of this value for 8 years is really great. If he manages to have 4 or 5 more seasons where he's consistently above PPG average this contract will look wonderful !

He's a really exciting player to watch and I like him where he is, on the Stars. Great leader !

Power forwards usually don't age well but Iginla's last good year was at age 35 so it's possible.

Imagine making 9.5 mill in dallas per year?.. geeze I wish I tried a bit harder in hockey lol

As Kelly Chase said "every Canadian guy I have met said they were one injury or a bad coach away from the NHL"

Dallas needed to sign this deal to lock up a super star player for the next 4 to 5 seasons......if/when he fades they deal with it then (flip the asset). I am sure that will be accounted for in the deal structure (front loaded with movement options in the back half of the contract). The deal is fair for both sides not a steal but it is market rate for one of the top players in the game.

Good day for Dallas and Benn.

Much like crosby and malkin...in a couple years that contract will be a joke. Good on Jamie benn for not requesting insane money like kane and toews..

Congrats to dallas...big day
