They're just playing uninspired, brain dead hockey right now. Way too many guys not playing to their abilities. Coach needs to find some motivation within the team but the biggest problem right now is players performing below their projected abilities . As much as Maurice can't keep forcing the same line combinations and expecting different results, more than a few players can't keep doing the same things and expecting different results. Most people know who those guys are.

Its great that we are fourth but wins aren't always indicative of how well a team is playing. A coach needs to look beyond the win total and see if a team is performing optimally.

The team is:

13th in corsi close
19th in 5 on 5 goals
18th in expected goals at ES

The underlying numbers of the team this year do not support our win totals nor do they support the notion that we are a contender.

Look at the last 5 Stanley Cup winners............you may be on to something. :sarcasm:

That being said, we're only halfway through the season. And performing below expectations.

Embarrassing effort tonight. This team should have zero excuse for such weak offence and PP results.

I realize Pitts had all the breaks tonight but our last 4 or 5 games have been concerning

That being said, we're only halfway through the season. And performing below expectations.

Is this supposed to disprove something? All you did was show that almost every cup winner in the past 5 years has been elite in either Corsi or xGoals (other than the unicorn of Washington last season). If you had gone back even further, you would see this pattern repeated even more with Chicago, Boston and LA teams winning their earlier cups with elite 5 on 5 shot metrics.

The Jets are middling in all these stats, therefore the assertion that they are not a true contender based on their results this season is correct. That has to change before the playoffs if the Jets hope to compete.

For reference - last season's Jets were a top 5 team in Corsi and xGF% (even better if you exclude the first 1.5 month of the season where they struggled). Last season's Jets matched the profile of a contender.

The only people that mentioning Laine is getting 9M upwards are the fans (us)..

:naughty:

Every 10 game block it changes for basically all our rfa by the fans and posters. We cant nego like that ....

Jets are not getting a break.
And coach pulling the goalie at 4-5minutes left, behind 3 goals is questionable.
Specially with that Pitrsburgh firepower.

If the Team have given up.
Then just keep playing the 4th line and 3rd line.

The goalie should not have been pulled at all.

That game was well over even with 5 minutes to go.

Problems need to be solved by the room imo. Shuffling the lines might create a spark with some players but the discipline the team needs to start playing with begins with Wheeler and Scheifele. I'd like to see them separated for awhile but regardless they need to raise their level of play and attention to detail for everyone else to..

I kind of slumbered through watching this game. Not a very tight game. Pittsburgh had a lot more pace. Their offensive transition seemed vastly superior.

It really showed that our best defenseman wasn't playing tonight.

The lines got thrown in the blender with Ehlers going out, which is good to see different combos. I liked Perreault-Little-Laine from what I remember.

But it's a non conference loss, in a game we were going to be hard pressed to win. No reason to throw the life raft.

Maybe Petan, Appleton and Niku bring some energy against Dallas.

Can't blame Helly in this one, only one goal he had a chance on

Schief, Wheeler still patting each other on the back with their All Star selections, what try, we just show up, isn't that good enough, we're stars dammit!

2nd line almost non-existent once again, tell me how Little is still a legit. 2C!

3rd do their job but score only by fluke or when there are 29 days in February!

4th line, who knows Mo never plays them.

Jets sorely missing Buff, really starting to show!

Crosby still pretty solid, skin and bones Ehlers found out the hard way!

I can’t see Chevy signing Laine to big dollars long term given his play this year. If Laine’s agent starts demanding big dollars, then Chevy has a career defining decision to make. Trading him at 20 years old could be disastrous. But he’d certainly fetch a kings randsom that could put the Jets over the top. Glad I’m not a GM.
Another organization would trade for him, put him in a position to succeed and watch him win the rocket for the next ten years. We will let him rot.

While I wasn’t terribly thrilled with the effort tonight, far more concerning is the possible loss of Ehlers and Kulikov.
We all know how important Ehlers is to this team, but Kulikov playing to his potential is really important to this team as well. He stabilizes things back there. Let’s hope they’re not out long term.

It's going to be interesting to see how many of these young RFA's are going to be asking for big money/term and either getting it or holding out.
It’s interesting that we have so many talented youngsters that aren’t being played to their potential.

What's the proper utilization? Find 4 players so strong he doesn't have to skate past his offensive blueline all night?

Aside from his shot he's one of the worst forwards in the league. It doesn't matter who he plays with. The only thing he does at an NHL level is shoot the puck.
....and make beautiful passes and see the ice. There is hardly a poster in these boards that doesn’t see the issue with the chemistry between laine and little.

Was watching live. After 4th goal, turned off both TeeVee and PeeVeeArr; game was so rancid, I feared it would corrupt whatever it touched.

85 hustled, & was good on forecheck. Everyone else sub-par.

Flash of hope: 28 & 29 were together on one late-game rush. Maybe brain was overcome by game’s stench, but thought I saw 29’s stride pick up. Like, way up. If Coach (for reasons I still can’t grasp) can’t give us 55 29, I hope he uses the shake-up from 27’s (brief? [crosses fingers, toes]) injury to at least give 28 29 a whirl.
