We have won when we should have lost and now we lost when we should have won. Very disappointing but it happens to every team

it has nothing to do with coaching. we have just 5-7 players on the whole roster that can make and recieve passes. there is no coach in this world that can get something out of this team.
I respectfully disagree - this team needs a new group behind the bench - a group that is capable of having a system in which the players we have buy into - a group that doesn’t show favors - a group that has this team prepared to play a full 60 minutes and they start the second when the puck drops.

What we have is a group of coaches who apparently have no system in place (at least that’s what my aging eyes tell me) and losing in the most obscene fashion is the norm and it’s tolerated (again with the eye test).

While not elite - this roster has the capacity to perform at a much higher level and with considerably better consistency - we’re not seeing that.

We have won when we should have lost and now we lost when we should have won. Very disappointing but it happens to every team
But it’s happening more frequently than what it should be and it has been since Blashill was here.

I honestly feel this team should have made the playoffs last season had it not been for the excessive losing streaks and horrific inconsistency and that usually falls upon the coaching staff.

I think it is fair to call for a coaching change at this point. I certainly would favor it. That said, I think you need to be realistic about how much it will change this team. I am very much convinced that regardless of who we have running the show, this team will struggle to transition the puck out of the defensive zone and will continue to turn over pucks in the defensive zone. No system is going to fully offset the lack of quality centers on this roster, especially on the second line and 1/2 of our blueline (who simply can't retrieve and move pucks no matter how you look at it). I think a successful coaching change would put us back around where we were last year (perhaps a tad better). It is not going to put us in the top 10 of the league if that is what people are expecting.

B2B games. Cam is playing tonight against the tougher opponent.

Fester's contract expires end of season, he'll start Cam as much as possible from here on out. It's clearly obvious who the best goalie is.

Meanwhile Lyon is playing himself out of a contract extension.
He should in no way get an extension under any circumstance. Tandem needs to be Talbot and Cossa next year

It's a mediocre team that isn't going to win many games with sub-par goaltending. Like all mediocre teams, there isn't enough quality to expect consistency. Watching Gustafsson trying to complete a pass to Rasmussen three times on IIRC a single shift, and Ras failing all three times to simply control the puck or do anything with it to continue possession, was like watching the little girl in Exorcist spinning her head around. This happens all the time, the names of guilty parties like a rolodex of former ECHL all-stars. You can blame the coach for not devising a system that eliminates the need for fundamental skills, and he certainly deserves some, but it's time for some fans to consider that last year's 11-point improvement might have been an over-achievement. Without superior goaltending, which was a possibility with adding Talbot and Lyon playing like he did for 3-4 months last season, they are not going to get close to a WC berth this season.

As for the rebuild, it's crazy to think it's not going in the right direction in terms of young player/prospect acquisition. The place-holders will give way and there will be a new coach when it matters. Until then, the annual playoff chase is a sideshow. A possible reward for Larkin, a taste of playoff hockey for a few young players, but otherwise just a way to pass the winter. You can either drive yourself nuts because of the false idea they are a good team, or ready to be, or appreciate the progress this year of Edvinsson, Kasper and maybe AlJo as they join Larkin, Ray and Mo. Those are the only five or six guys that matter and perhaps the only ones still around in three years.

I know it is b2b games. But my point was that we had no chance winning vs the kings, so he should have played Lyon vs kings. Talbot wins the game vs the ducks

would have played talbot vs ducks too. wonder if talbot wanted to play his old team or they thought he might want to.
Maybe. But I thought this could be a turning point for the team and I thought 5 points was realistic. When we won vs the pens I thought even 6 points vs realistic. I just thought we would definitely lose to the kings. I thought Lyon struggled a bit before the injury and I preferred to play Talbot vs the ducks as Talbot has been our best player so far this season.
Now we have 2 points after 3 games. There are just 2 teams behind us in the standings and I don't see this team higher than 10 in the conference. The question is whether Yzerman should tank this season.

I'm sure Fester was giving himself the best chance at winning both games, not just one. The Kings aren't that amazing. Kopitar is 37 and still their best player. Rittich has been a backup goalie the past 4 season. Plus it gives Cam an extra day rest between starts.

Things get interesting next week when the Wings play basically every other day for 3 weeks. Does Cam get ALL of the starts?

I wonder if Coaches actually do think like this lol

Coaches make goalie decisions based on opponents all the time. I don't think Fester wanted to concede the LA game like he did with the Rangers by starting Husso.

Despite this game, Talbot still has a winning record at 5-3-1. I don't see Stevie tanking unless Cam falls apart.

I wanted to start Talbot and secure 2 points vs the ducks. Even though Lyon allowed a soft 1st goal the team took the 3-1 lead and had the control of the game, but then Lyon allowed 2 softish goals and we lost Edvidsson, and it was end for the team.
This trip was a golden opportunity to get it going and gain 5/6 points. Now it looks very bad even if we win vs the sharks.
I don't think yzerplan is on track

Talbot has been our best player so far and without him we would be the last in the conference.
