Feels like every team in the league can build momentum and go on a win streak except for Jets .

Have Jets ever won 8 in a row like Pittsburgh just did?

Just to add a positive note to what I am sure will be a pretty negative thread.....

The past 5 or so weeks should likely help bring down some contract $$ from Laine and Connor's potential ask. In a cap world, every couple of $100,000 helps!

Connor's last 10 games - 0G, 0A, -10
Laine's last 10 games - 3G, 1A, -9

This is what Maurice and Chevy are thinking and for a fan it's just sickening to watch. We are wasting our window.

We really need some sort of shake-up, that or Buff out of the line-up is the big difference factor here. This team needs to be better than this. But I imagine this injury keeps Ehlers out for as little as a few games or as long as the All-Star break. But one thing that's a problem here is that it's practically same-old-same-old and the opposing coaches know just what to do.

Here are my new lines. And call me crazy but I think Appleton with Laine could work out very well.

Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler
Laine-Little-Appleton
Copp-Lowry-Tanev
Lemieux-Roslovic-Perreault

wow what a shakeup. Appleton will definitely fix everything for us

it kills me that Vancouver goes in there and steamrolls them as a basement dweller last 2 times and likely more time over the years and we cant lose to Vancouver yet have never beaten the pens in Pittsburgh.

The team is in a big time slump, but the symptoms have been there all year imo. We have not played as well as our record but have got by but it has been catching up with us the last month or so. This team quite frankly hasn't looked dangerous in a while.

Maurice needs to stop sitting behind the bench twiddling his thumbs. This is what happens when your stubborn and don't address problems early on. He has turned a blind eye to indifferent play by the top line, let the Little-Laine-Conner line hemorrhage for over a month and has refused to shift his philosophy with regards to needing a bottom 6 full of checkers and grinders. This team is going nowhere until he can get rid of his old archaic thoughts on needing a skilled top 6 and a gritty role playing bottom 6. He is stuck in the past as none of the top contenders configure their lineups as he does. This isn't 5-10 years ago. He also needs to trust the damn skilled players he is leaving marooned in the press box. This team can't score but yes lets leave players with obvious skill Niku and Petan in the PB. The power play has gone cold, Petan and Niku certainly couldn't help there..... This coach at times completely lacks imagination or the conviction to shift things up or try something different. He needs to cater to his vets even when they are under performing because well they have earned it...... He needs to start actually coaching this team now and making some darn hard decisions and not revert back to the comfort of his safety zone of playing his checkers and overplaying Scheifele and Wheeler. Its time to take some risks and inject some skill into the lineup and let it find its way and create 3 scoring lines. We aren't doing much with the status quo, time to try it..

I am not even going to talk about the players tonight as no one outside of Helle and Morrisey and Trouba did their jobs..

Schief and Wheeler were pathetic tonight. I really did not like their defensive play and their offensive play was just lacking. I know they like playing together but maybe we should try to split them up just to send them a message that the effort is not good enough. And honestly it's been hit or miss the entire season, yes they have been productive but they are not playing with the same amount of effort as last year.

Also, I did not like the effort from most of the team in the third. There was absolutely zero push from them to try and even get a decent shot on net, never mind a goal.

This is exactly how I’ve been feeling all year. Thanks for reaching into my brain Surixon and writing my thoughts word for word.
This team’s play doesn’t match its point totals and that is catching up to them now.

Frankly it is surprising the Jets are where they are in the standings. Everyone keeps saying how good they are but why can't they beat a good team? I get the season has a long way to go - and the Jets are a top team in the standings - but there are a lot of ills with the team. You can't hope for Laine to go on a scoring streak or Helle to play like Vezina calibre goalie during the playoffs as a recipe for success.

I don't see this team getting past Nashville, Calgary, Vegas in a series. Maybe not San Jose either.

Something has to happen to get more consistency and better production /play from the team stars.

To put Laine's 18-19 season into perspective. In the Jets 2.0 era, for forwards who have player more than 200 minutes:

The only forward with a worse RelTM CF% than him this season is Matt Halischuck in the 13-14 season

The only forwards with a worse RelTM xGF% than his 18-19 season are Burmistrov (16-17 season), Connor (16-17 season), Slater (12-13 season)

No forward on Jets 2.0 has had a worse RelTM SF% than him this season

And this is out 118 players seasons.

He's been in the same general ballpark this season at 5 on 5 statistically (other than in scoring) as these guys who were not NHL players.

Everyone should take an L on this from Laine for that kinda of play at 5 on 5 to the coaching staff for not doing anything to change things to get his and that line's game out of the sewer half way into the season.
Boys play in the fall. Men play in the spring.

Let's see those stats after 2019 playoffs when Laine is the first Winnipeg player to win the Conn Smythe.

It may take a few more years to sink in that last year was our best shot at the Cup.

Warning: the following post may contain hot takes. Discretion is advised for sensitive readers.

This is EXACTLY what I have been thinking for some time. Hockey's getting serious now, and all these points we've racked up during play time will certainly get us into the playoffs, but this is a dead team skating. First round exit, hope they like golf.

Around the time that hockey historians are looking back at our one year window, there will be a consensus that moving up in the lottery to get Laine was the single biggest factor leading to the demise of the franchise as a serious contender. The decision by Chevy to sign him long term to big dollars will be seen as the main justification for his firing and why he never again achieved an NHL GM position. Laine's future is so dim, I gotta wear night goggles. For God's sake Chevy, trade this twerp to the Oilers while they still have a GM stupid enough to give their past, present and future to acquire him.

And I have to point out... the Bruins, an organization that is consistently competitive and has won actual Stanley Cups, dumped Wheeler on a team that never made a good deal during their existence and passed on picking Connor. Maybe they saw something. Maybe Hockey USA saw something. Maybe now we're seeing something.

I'll now return you to your regular non-reactionary posts.
