Let’s do both. You know Army definitely wants some picks especially after last year’s shitshow. 2021 draft class isn’t great though. Probably the weakest since 2017.

The lack of scouting should also make second-round picks more valuable than usual, as the top 60 players isn't sorted, you might be lucky and get the 10th best player at 50OA. I know, it's always like that, but this draft more than ever.

Top 90 picks are still top 90 picks, same as any other draft. By virtue of not having a 1st, it's hard to complain about a weak or strong class.

Can't lure Plandowski away and then not give him ammo. I think BA will try to trade everything he can make a market for, assuming they miss.

If someone was offering a 2nd or even a 3rd for Demers or Goligoski right now, I'd take it and just play Soda/Capo/Gross/Bush in their spot. The right attitude is more important this year than a few points in the standings.

The lack of playing time might perversely lead to more consensus. They knew roughly who the top 100 prospects were a year ago. Typically you get late risers and those with very limited but impressive viewings for many reasons (eg/ remote location, short tournaments or injury) breaking that up and fallers with more evidence. There's none of that movement. So you could actually see fewer off the board picks and more consensus.

A lot is supposed to change in a year that we havent had. I still remember Lance Monych being in Top 10 pick chatter at the start of the year and being a 4th round pick for us by the end of the year. Was excited to see what he could do but he just peaked as a prospect very early.

This season I was looking for the "core" of this team to take the next step. Still early, but seeing this...coupled with the way the team is controlling the play and competing, I am very encouraged. I still believe this team can make the playoffs this season.

It is a bit funny to me that Kessel is already somehow a -4 even though he leads the team in goals (only 1 is PP). Not saying it's a big deal yet but of course he is.

Yep, the core is actually in decent shape, as of right now. Obviously, room for improvement for some, but one of the things that we may have to remind ourselves is that not every player evolves at the same time. It is obviously hard to see some players and their growth curve appear to accelerate faster relative to ours, but we have the ability to get there.

Is this year 2 after Schmaltz injured his knee? Most times, the first year back is a little bit of an adjustment time, as meaningful hockey hasn't been played in several months.

If Dvorak keeps it up, and Schmaltz or Hayton winds up out playing his current level, they may be low-end #1 Cs, but they would be #1s, nonetheless.

Pretty exciting to see all of Dvo, Schmaltz, Garland and Chychrun as our top scorers. Keller should be up there two but has been pretty unlucky I count he has missed two open nets by barely hitting a post and has had two nice dishes to players who fanned on open goals.

Season is short so hope they keep this up. I really hope Dvo gains more confidence in front of the net, I was watching him last night and he still is a little reluctant to just park his butt in front of the goalie. He has the hands to deflect so I'm not sure why he doesn't screen more. Also would love to see Kessel in front of the net more on the PP. This whole constantly having a forward down on the half wall or pivoting from the net to behind it just doesn't work. We pass and pass and pass and then by the time we shoot it's either blocked, or there isn't anyone around to get the rebound.

Brassard has been sneaky good. Anyone miss Derek Stepan?

Not yet. Brassard took the night off game one vs the Ducks though and his bad games seem much worse than Stepan's bad games. We need the offense though and the re-tooled bottom six more than makes up for the gap between his defensive play and Stepan's. I hope we re-sign him. I hope giving him a 2-3 year contract gets him motivated to give it his all since he wont be bouncing around two times a year again.

One Chayka'ism that I still love is the idea of "optionality". Having guys who can play center even if it isn't their strong suit scattered throughout the lineup is a blessing.

I've liked Brassard's game since the first game of the season. He brings much more compete and we needed that.

Conversely the recent posts on the Sens board thread on Stepan is mostly lament and "eh he's decent on the 4th line"

What we are missing from ALL players mentioned is consistency. This should come with experience and I think we are seeing less inconsistency, so hopefully it keeps going in that direction. Another big problem is our D have to get more involved and contribute more.

Worse than Stepan? Nobody and I mean nobody is worse than Stepan.

Our C play could be horrible and I wouldn't miss him. I don't care what happens the rest of the year, BA made my season when Stepan was traded.

That's what we all thought as soon as the trade was announced. The 2nd round pick is nice but damn, Jakey is doing back flips right now!

Is Dvorak turning into a legit 1st line center? He has been very good.
Anything is possible, he’s really a beast in his own way and potting points is what will help him ascend, if he stays responsible defensively. Absolutely love the kids stoic nature, as well.
