Every one was comfortable with moving one of Raanta or Keumper in the right deal and letting Hill be the full time backup. The only negative thing I can remember saying was that trading both and leaning on Hill to be the starter sounded like a disaster in the making. He'll get some starts this season either way with Raanta's injury history. We'll see what we've got and go from there. He's likely exposed in the X draft, but there are going to be plenty of talented young goaltenders also exposed. Doesn't seem like a given that he'd be taken. Having Prosvetov continuing to excel makes Hill slightly less important to the franchise.
Goalies are voodoo. Hill is doing about as well as you can expect out of a young goaltender. Still a chance he becomes a consistent starter. He just doesn't have a real body of work at this level.

Coyotes fans on this forum and on Twitter seem to be really hard on Hill. I don't get it. I think he's done well for his age and has some upside. I can't project a goalie's future to save my life, though. Everything just seems so damn random at that position. Generally, though, I've been satisfied in his performance for us so far.

I agree, Hill has done well when coming in and playing. He's got a .907 over 3yrs of subbing in, which isn't terrible and pretty standard for a backup.

I'm basically ready to see Hill as the full time backup as soon as Raanta can stay healthy enough to showcase him for a couple of games. But I also think keeping the trio to the trade deadline might be the strong hand to play in this weird season. Some of these teams that missed a few games are now facing some crazy condensed schedules to make up the lost games. Having a fresh 3rd guy like Hill in that instance could be the difference between making and missing the playoffs.

TSN says the Blues are talking with teams about moving Vince Dunn.

He was a healthy scratch last night. I hope we're all over this. Don't care that he's LD, we still need D in future seasons. He's an Army draft pick as well so maybe there's a chance.

2021-22 (without Hammer, Demers, Goose):

OEL - UFA?
Chychrun - Soderstrom
Dunn - Oesterle?

Edit: Friedman says the Blues want a 1st. f*** that. I'd give up the CBJ 2nd. Throw in Capo too. Not sure that's very appealing though.

Let's see what we have in Capo and Gross. Soderstrom will be on the team for sure. I like Dunn. He is big, young and inexpensive. They may get a first for him.

With OEL out, I think Dunn immediately becomes our top PP option on D.

Tough to ask for a 1st in an ultra tight season, standings-wise, when you’re health-bombing the kid.

I’d guess there’s 0 teams willing to move a 1st and quite a few willing to move a 2nd. If you’ve got five comparable offers, why not help out your good buddy and former protégé?

Watched a ton of Dunn in junior. Reminded me of Yandle. Warts and all. But I'd love to have him.

What's Oesterle's next contract look like? He's a pending UFA and already at or near what you want to pay a No. 5 D.

No interest in him if the price is a 1st or a 2nd. That's crazy to be asking that much for a healthy scratch. His point totals are fine but not that impressive.

Oesterle has been our 2nd or 3rd best defensemen since OEL got hurt. He's been playing more minutes and hasnt really looked out of place.

Hey everyone, Canucks poster coming in peace. Wondering what the outlook is for Adin Hill, he's seemed up and down the last year or two. Obviously the #1 job is taken, but is there any future for him past being a backup?

Hi Canucks guy welcome! I hope that Demko starts playing better no idea what's gotten into him after that amazing playoff run.

Hill might be able to be an adequate backup but imo that's the ceiling for him. Most of the AZ board really likes him, I have a different opinion and as a former collegiate goalie with season tix for 3 years (sat right behind the home net), my opinion is also valid.

Hill plays great for the most part, but the problem for me is that once every 2-3 games Hill lets up a truly horrible, inexplicable goal. Things like not being set properly for a shooter who is in shooting position, overcommitting to the wrong shooter on a 3-2, things like that. He consistently makes these mental mistakes, and these mistakes are ones that most D-1 starters / national level high schoolers would never make. Frankly, I read the game 10x better than Hill does, that should never happen at the NHL level.

In terms of ability he's great -- he has good raw skills, and is also a big goalie who takes up a lot of net and for the most part plays the angles well and is better than the average NHL goalie (incl starters and backups) at stopping initial pucks because of his size / above average athleticism. But, I don't really trust him because he is truly horrible at reading the play.

From what I've seen on TV (limited sample size), Demko is better, not even close. But, I think Hill could make a living as a backup goaltender because like @rt says no one really understands goalies. If he plays 25 games a season, he'll give up 10-15 or so truly horrible goals, that's not the worst thing in the world

Am I the only one who likes Oesterle more than Dunn? Haha
I like Oesterle, he's probably our best Dman on a night-in/night-out basis.....and when your 5th Dman is your most consistent Dman that is a problem.

A 1st obviously rules the Coyotes out. Hoping the St Louis Armstrong connection is helpful.

I wouldn't give up anything of value for Dunn. He isn't great at taking a regular shift playing against normal or good competition. Oesterle had the same rate of ES production and played tougher minutes last year.

Just play Capo and Soderstrom. That's what this year is for.

I'm fine with Dunn. He's been noticeable everytime I watch. But I'd be cautious knowing he's used in a sheltered role on a deep blueline.

Maybe we can flip a UFA D with retention and a midround pick for Dunn if noone bites. I'd still look at Bozak, too.

I think a 2nd and Capo is a competitive offer. It also frees up about 1 mil cap space for them. They have 0 cap space right now.

Goose and CLB 2nd for Bozak and Dunn

Saves them 1.4M cap. We'd have to convert Hossa to LTIR.

Schmaltz-Dvo- Garland
Keller- Brassard- Pitlick
Bozak-Hayton-Kessel
Crouse-Larsson-Hayden/Fish/Hunt

Chych-Hammer
Dunn-Demers
Capo/Oesterle-Soderstrom/Bush

Is there any chance of bringing back Langhamer or Kallgren as a third goalie at some point, particularly after the KHL or SHL seasons are over.

It would be hard to move one of our goalies without getting another back. I don't want to see Prosvetov get thrown in until he's had some more time in Tucson.

I'd like to acquire a defenseman to protect from a team that will have to expose one. Carolina or Chicago, for example.
It would be advantageous to trade a forward for one if a team may be thinking of protecting 10 skaters. I would love to get Connor Murphy back.

I still think Dumba for Schmaltz could be something to build around if you guys can spare losing Schmaltz. Not sure how the actual GMs feel about it.

My understanding is that Kallgren is a UFA. Langhamer’s rights are still retained on the inactive roster but I’m not sure about the transfer back into the system (waivers?). I would think the Roadrunners would just sign an AHL goalie in the States if they needed to. That wouldn’t count against the 50 contract limit. They PTO’d Parks a couple times last season.
