Richards is about 1 concussion away from living the rest of his days on a beach in Mexico somewhere . They better buy him out this Summer...with the luck our team has...we know the worse will happen and we get stuckfor the term of the deal . The other worse case scenario is that he signs with the Isles / Devils LOL or Philly and creams us every game on the PP .

I like Briere...but very injury prone and takes a lot of bad PM's IMO .

A lot of noise about a glut of older players on the market this summer. A free agent market that looks more like >2005 with many 30+ players cut loose because of new cap rules. It will really hurt guys (i.e. Clowe) from getting a big contract. Forget about big money, as teams reset under the new rules, many older players will have to scramble to find a place to play next year. One thing I have been told is that the cap could stay flat or drop again in 2014. Someone I really trust told me that if you are even thinking about buying a player out, then that player will definitely be bought out.

very interesting if true, will make for a very interesting off season.

Without having you name names, is your 'someone' within the Rangers or another club, or just close to hockey or a player in general?

Yeah, I remember being on the Hawks board before the start of the season and they were talking about a possible Hossa amnesty.

If that happens, Sather should be all over that.
 
Jeez i would love to see the good Hossa in Ranger blue.

Knowing our luck though he'd come here and either suck or be injured the whole time
 
An amnesty buyout of Richards and not resigning Clowe (if they think he is done) would open up quite a lot of cap space. Use it wisely...
Our 4 RFAs will then much more easily be signed long term.
There will be other buyouts and several teams dealing "discounted significant players" in order to get under a limited amount of cap space that might be very interesting to be in on...

Nah, ah, I don't know.

Nothing against Marian, I kind of feel right now that any offensive player we bring in must be handpicked and designed to fix our darn PP. Marian Hossa on a PP is carbon copy Gabby/Nash on a PP.

One thing we should not underrate when it comes to Brad Richards is the amount of pressure he absorbs.

If we play like sheit for a stretch next season; Rick Nash, Derek Stepan, Ryan Callahan, Henrik Lundqvist, Derick Brassard or whoever will not be the most covered player. It would be Brad Richards because he makes 12m per and plays like a 2.5m player. We could definitely end up in a PO race next season too.

Its possible we could replace him Step, Brass, OL and Boyle. But if they aren't quite ready, and we buy Richards out, the increased spotlight on them could hurt their development.

I would buy out Richards now, if we had a replacement lined up. If Slats knew that he could just pick up the phone and swing Staal and a prospect for Shea Weber as soon as the papers where signed (is that even possible with Weber's trade moratorium?).
 
We're still early in the cycle of this CBA, so salary comparables are being developed. Complicating things even more is that the cap is set to drop next year for the first time, making it tough to project how much room the Maple Leafs may have in the future when calculating what a fair price for Kessel might be.

"I think that the NHL has already distributed preliminary analysis of where the cap is going each year for the next three or four years. I know that we have our own," one prominent agent said. "It's been artificially set at $64.3 million, then I think we'll be up in the 66-67 range the following year, and we'll be back to $70 [million] by Year 3."

Wow way to take my post out of context.

He is not the same player he used to be. He has suffered major injuries the past few seasons and is carried by Toews. Last yr he had soft minutes and produced in them. He is still a 1st line player, but a complimentary player at best. No I don't want to shell 7 yrs at 42 mil he'll probably ask for and get in FA.
 
The cap projection for 14-15 is $66M-$67M. Custance has good contacts at Newport Sports. He used an agent source. The Rangers can re-sign Henrik,Girardi and Callahan on July 5 which is when free agency starts this summer. $7M for Henrik. $4M-$4.5M for G. $5M for Callahan.

File this one away for the July 5 opening of the free agent market: If there’s one guy on that Capitals club the Rangers have come to respect over the course of their annual playoff confrontations, that would be Matt Hendricks, the jagged-edged center who kills penalties and fits the Black-and-Blueshirt mold.

Hendricks, who turns 32 next month, will be coming off a contract under which he earned $825,000 per. Expect the Rangers to put in a call when the market opens.

The Rangers need more offense out of their bottom six. Hendricks doesn't address that. He will also be 32.

Is it possible the Rangers buy out Richards, then just don't make any moves besides resigning their homegrown guys? Instead allowing players like Kreider and Miller to develop at the NHL level?

Boyle as a 3C and Miller as a 4C.

I think Newbury and Hale have also played center right?

Those cap projections are also somwhat fairly modest. We could have some really big markets playing late in the season the coming years. US economy is slowly turning in the right direction. The NHL will fully exploit the out door games. NBC will give the game decent exposure. The Olympics in Russia will give the game some attention.

I wouldn't be suprised to see us reach 70m one year before that projection.
 
I don't think much needs to be done UFA wise with all of the prospects coming up and at the very least Kreider/Miller/Fast/Lindberg all trying to crack the roster and already too many guys who have roster spots.

I think this is a case of quality over quantity.

Sign a center like Filpulla who can make some plays and win some faceoffs. Callup David Clarkson if Clowe is not in the picture and see his asking price.

Sign a depth DMan, that is it. The Matt Hendricks's of the wolrd are redundant.

This team still needs to figure out what to do with Powe/Pyatt and maybe even Asham. Are the first two healthy scratches?

The cap went from from $64.3M to $70.2M because of the NBC deal and Atlanta moving to Winnipeg. The same $3.3B with 50% falls way short of $70.2M. Its comes out to $62M-$63M. The $64.3M is an artificial number. The $70M projection for 15-16 includes the new Canadian TV money. CBC TV contract expires after 13-14. The new TV dollars will begin in 14-15 and show up in the 15-16 cap. Even that depends on how the money in the deal is structured. Are the dollars backloaded? That's what happened in the NFL.

Revenues needs to be, what, $3,650,000,000 for the cap to reach 70m (HRR * 0.5 * 1.15 / 30 = 70,000,000) (disregarding benefits and inflation bumper)? That is "only" a 10 percent increase from the 2011/12 number.

Alot of factors will play in (like if the loonie goes down, so would HRR...), but from my point of view the NHL went like the train before the lockout, but it didn't show completely because of the finacial crisis. With Boston, NY, Chicago and LA still playing and seeming to be on track for good years ahead to, and many other positive indications, it just seems like -- from some distance -- that 10 percent growth over two calender years wouldn't be impossible. The inflation alone in the US is 4+ percent over that period of time.

Since we got the cap, people have constantly predicted way too low numbers. I think the NHL will have a good year next season.

BR is gone already in my book. I think we should move Staal for a young scorer, someone like Eberle or Ryan. If we don't make it past the Bruins, I don't think we should re-sign Clowe and just give Kreider more icetime. Maybe make a pass at Kundratek, a 3rd in 2014?
