I don't think we'll go into next season with the exact same lineup as we have now, but I suppose they could if they wanted to.

The moves this offseason need to be limited. The D looks set, but in my opinion the churn up front can only be 2-3 players max. Need to establish some consistency and maintain identity.

I think we can expect to see Boyle plus multiple picks packaged to move up in the draft. Pyatt should be moved for a pick is possible. I can't see MZA being resigned. I'd hope that the replacements come from some combination of Kreider/Miller/Fasth/Lindberg, but you know there will be at least one UFA signing.

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Clowe-Richards-Callahan
Kreider-Brassard-Miller (not your typical 3rd line, scary defensively)
Asham-Powe-Dorsett
Fasth/Lindberg/UFA

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Moore
MDZ-Stralman
McIlrath/UFA

I really like that lineup.

All great if everybody plays nice and signs on the dotted line...I tend to think it is not going to be as smooth as we all want it to be...we have some guys that others will covet !!!

$5.5MM for Stepan? And that's low!? Clowe, McDonagh, and Hagelin are about right, IMO. Stepan should get around $2.75MM.
2.75M for Stepan? O Reilly set the Bar@ 5M and Stepan>>>>O Reilly.

I think 5.5M AAV is about right. Step is our 2nd best forward right now. Jay Feaster really screwed this team by making that RFA offer to O Reilly

Stepan will need an offer sheet to get Ryan O'Reilly money.

Unless he gets an OS, stepan won't sniff 5.5m... 3.5 tops for him

I don't think we'll go into next season with the exact same lineup as we have now, but I suppose they could if they wanted to.

I think part of the problem this yr was turnover so I think its smart to keep the same team going for the most part. If you break it down how many go?

Richards- he wont get bought out next yr, he may the next though
Stepan- he's the number one C
Brassard- key piece for Gabby
Boyle- yea he could be dealt but he could be a good 4th line /Pker too. UFA in 1 yr
Nash- teams star
Callahan- the Captain
Dorsett- ideally the Prust replacement
Asham- maybe he goes but I would keep him for the last yr of his contract
Clowe- he should resign longterm
Zuccarello- so far so good, I think he's back
Hagelin- key piece
Powe- cheap Pker
Pyatt- I would see he goes for the young guys below. Just get a midround pick
Miller, Kreider, Fast...........maybe Lindberg have shots at making the team
Haley has a one way deal.....Newbury is depth
Lundqvist- The King
Biron- 1 yr left as backup
Staal- key piece
Del Zotto- only real offensive Dman
Girardi- would be shocked if he is moved
McDonaugh- key piece
Stralman- he could go I guess but doubt it, one yr left
Moore- brought in to complete the top 6
McIlrath- maybe one more yr in CT then hopefully read. call up option next yr for sure
Eminger- maybe a cheap spare resigned
Bickel- I'm sure they hope to move him, too bad he wasnt in the Gabby deal
Gilroy and Harlik will be let go

I could see a team like Detroit doing it

Also how do we fit in Clowe?

small moves like Pyatt out at 1.5 and using a cheaper alternative to spare like Haley

Boyle would be sought after believe it or not so they could move that 1.7 for a pick at the draft if need be

Also they could only have 2 spares instead of 3 and make call ups when needed

I think Clowe, Stepan, McDonaugh, Hagelin will fit

14m in cap space.. we could give clowe, step, hags, mcd all 4m per and still be under.. now obviously some may get more (clowe? Mcd?) but they will all fit and hags won't sniff 4m per and I doubt stepan does either

Your math is off if we give all 4 4mil that's 16 mil and we'd be over

If they fit those four in, They will be right against the cap with no wiggle room.

I think to fit all four in, they all will have to give a bit of a discount

yea you are right. played around with Capgeek numbers. I didnt know how to trade guys so put Boyle and Pyatt as traded with 1 % retained salary.....signed RFAs Zuc, Stepan, McD, Hagelin and resigned Clowe. Just fits

Hagelin was at 2, Stepan 3.5, McD -4, Zuc, 1.2, Clowe -4

I am cool with getting picks for Boyle and Pyatt, I think its easily done since they have one yr left on deals

I would count on dumping some of the players on the lower lines. Jesper Fasth and Oscar Lindberg will be more ready in relation to their celling than both JT Miller and Chris Kreider, and while its far from a guarantee that they will make the opening lineup if they ever are going to make it I don't see why they wouldn't during the coming year. Besides those two, you have 10 guys on that lineup and 4 other players unsigned totalling 16 players that more or less should be in the mix.

My depth chart "mid-season" is:
1. Hags-Stepan-Nash//Hags and Cally could be shifted, but I like this balance better.
2. Clowe-Richards-Zucc//I like the mix on this line. I think Zucc is showing potential of getting going and if he do, he could carry BR and Clowe offensively.
3. Brassard-Lindberg-Callahan//I think this line would be a game-winner in the NHL 2013. This line would be clutch defensively and definitely be good for on avg 40+ pts each. Our 1st and 2nd line could be "contained", but teams would struggle matching this line. Torts trusting BR less and less defensively -- for a very good reason. He is a liability defensively at times. In tough games, where we fail to get going, things are thight and we don't get a hold of the momentum, I think its essential to have a strong 3rd so that you can scale back on the ice time the 2nd line gets. I love Zucc's play but he is rock defensively either.
4. Kreider-JT Miller-Dorsett//I am not sure if this works, but ANA went with Getz and Perry on their 4th line when they won the cup.
5. Powe-Boyle-Fasth//Good for a avg 4th line, but our "5th line"
6. Haley-Asham-Pyatt//Fasth needs to get healthy, I don't think he got anything serious. It seems like a knee-sprain and that he needs to build up, or more like recover, his muscles around his knee to stay healthy. I don't even hold him behind Lindberg. If Fasth has a decent summer, he could be a top 6-9 forward for us in October. We have a log-jam for sure.

Staal-Strålman
McD-Girardi
MDZ-MCI//If McI can make the team next season, with Dorsett and Clowe, we could carry alot of skill on the lineup and still be a fairly tough team.
Sauer
Moore

I would -- to start with -- keep Boyle and Haley, but dump Powe, Pyatt and Asham for picks at the draft. I would keep Boyle untill he is pushed out of the lineup, or one of the centers ahead of him in the lineup is traded (we got a black hole at PMRD). I don't want to stand their without a 4th line again if we get injuries JT Miller/Lindberg isn't ready.

Dumping guys like Pyatt, Powe and Asham would free up something like 3.5 mill too. We'll be right next offseason but it's the one in 2 years time that has me worried. Callahan, Girardi, Hank and Stralman are all UFAs.

The cap for 14-15 will add 15% to determine the upper limit. It won't be a flat $8M every year. 15% of the adjusted midpoint. Revenue for 13-14 will determine the 14-15 cap. It revenue matches 11-12 revenue of $3.3B,the cap will be $64.3M in 14-15. It comes in below that number after the formula. The new TV contract in Canada begins in. 14-15. McDonagh will get a significant raise this summer. DZ and Girardi are up for contracts next summer. Staal in two summers. The Rangers will have a difficult decision to make if they need to move a D if they need to move one of not. Not McDonagh. Girardi is the lone righty. Del Zotto or Staal. This summer will be tight too. Re-sign the 3 group IIs and Clowe. $13M-$14M plus. Boyle has value. Larry Brooks wrote Boyle had more interest than Gaborik. Boyle is increasing his value with his play. The Rangers line up with Stepan,Richards and Brassard with Miller and Lindberg next season. Where is the room for Boyle at $1.7M? Trade Pyatt. Asham should have value at $1M. Powe at $1M can play both wing and center. Kill penalties. Nash,Callahan and Dorsett on the right side. A kid on entry level money can fill the other spot. Torts said the trades allow the Rangers young players to develop without the Rangers needing every point and worrying about mistakes.

How much more do we expect these guys to make?

Hank and Cally are pretty well paid nowadays.

Trade Boyle + Pyatt at the draft
Bury Asham at some point - replacing him with Haley
Could not find a spot for Kreider - he needs to really work hard this offseason and try to find his game
After the likely Richards buyout in 14 months and a presumable increase in cap space - there should be enough money to resign everybody for 2014/2015... At least it would seem that way...
Nasty team though...

im not worried we will have bought out Richards by then. I see Hank and Cally both signing for the same amount they have now. they are lifers

Miller in...Richards back home lobster fishing . That should free things up a bit and Miller's effort should be equal or greater than Richards...and even if he does not produce a lot point wise...the experience will be very valuable for the following season . Plus Miller will be much harder for our opposition to play against...much better compete level which we can lack in a lot of games .

With Boyle, Pyatt and Asham picking it up, we certainly got a bit of a logjam going into next season:

As is right now:
1. Hagelin-Stepan-Callahan
2. Zucc-Brassard-Nash
3. Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett
4. Kreider-Richards-Asham
5. Clowe
(ufa)-Miller-Powe
6. Haley-Lindberg-Fasth

Maybe its a bit too early, but I also think Moore is looking better and better each day at left defense, which gives us just about an insane depth there:
Staal-Strålman
McD-Girardi
MDZ-Moore(out of position)

And we still got a roster that cannot put a functional PP on the ice (besides maybe what Brass and Zucc got going).
