Ryan from ScreenCrush is awesome

I appreciate you posting that video. It helped with some perspective on the characters and their connections. I think my big disappointment with Star Wars is that Anakin has been written as joyless. He was seemingly aware of his own doom from the beginning and it really makes Anakin a dour character. He should have been a great character who was tricked not someone so angry and petulent that it’s hard to see what any of the other characters find likable about him. Either that or Christensen really is the Shatneresque level of bad that he’s been accused of but my opinion is that it’s the writing and the backstory he has been given by the scriptwriters. Just my opinion and I certainly don’t begrudge those who see his character as wonderful. I wish I did. Death Vader was the greatest villain of my childhood and even that short scene in Episode 3 was moving. Anakin just falls so short for me.

That was an amazing ahsoka episode. I loved it so much. If it keeps it up I'll like it better than Mando season 1. Now besting Andor would be a very hard feat.

I'm so happy we got to see Anakin 😀
Andor is its own flavor of Star Wars that will be hard for any show/movie to match. Honestly, I think it might be hard for even the show itself to meet the same level as the first season.

I'm just enjoying that we get both the more serious "grown up" Star Wars in Andor and the more fantastical "fun" Star Wars in Mandalorian and Ahsoka. Although it really just makes Boba Fett and Obi-Wan look like even more of missed opportunities.

Now if they could get their shit together with the movies...

I’m hoping the Acolyte can be a good mystery thriller star wars show. Looking forward to that

i've never seen any of the movies... but every single time a new one comes out i roll my eyes at the titles thinking.....oh....so?

what the f*** is going on now in some outer space land fantasy world.

your post is perfect.

one of the many great lines in the back to the future set is this

Star Wars sort of hits or misses for various reasons. Some of it is just the storytelling or in the case of Lucas, the story was great, but the dialogue left something to be desired. In 1977-1983 you could get away with some clunky dialogue because the movies just looked better than anything else and the story was great. Other than Star Trek nothing else that told an outer space story pulled off the genre nearly as well and the first Star Trek movie was a bit meh in retrospect. The prequels rode the wave of pent up fandom that had nothing to really go on for about 15 years or so. I was at the Phantom Menace on the day it opened. A buddy wanted to see it the first day. I would have been ok going that weekend rather than a Thursday afternoon but I'm glad I did. When the opening title sequence appeared the theatre erupted in cheers and clapping. I was amazed at it. The movie was a let down but that opening note from the hard core fans was impressive. Since then, it's been hit or miss but the cartoons that appealed to younger audiences do seem well done for what is aimed largely at kids. That's helped grow the fanbase and you see the discussion here is driven largely by the younger folks who are very connected with the animation characters that I am largely unfamiliar with. I have a soft spot for the movies for the nostalgia. A good Star Wars movie or show allows me to be a kid again. When you are old that's a nice thing. For the younger folks it's a continuation in live action of characters they've had for years in sophisticated animation and it's rare to see that so I can understand the enthusiasm.

I finished up season 2 of Foundation and Afterparty and both, for me, were great.

Foundation gives me big sci-fi concepts to mull over, great acting, and real consequences for characters. Afterparty gave me lots of laughs and a legit whodunit if I cared to work at the solution.

I kinda feel like Ahsoka is veering into Book of Boba Fett territory where the title character is the least interesting part of the show. Ahsoka should in theory be a super cool and compelling character, and I think we've seen some flashes of it, but I'm far more interested in Thrawn, Ezra and Sabine's relationship, Skoll's mysterious plan, Hera's struggle between friendship and duty, etc.

I don't think Ahsoka as a character has been well written at all so far. The whole trope of "Jedi Master being reluctant because of their past failures/trauma" is really tired, we've been watching that same story for 50 years now.

I get that her relationship with Anakin is something that fans of the animated series have wanted to see in live action for some time. But it's not doing anything for me. Seems like they just waned an excuse to put Hayden Christiansen back on the screen. Which is cool I guess, but I don't really see the point of it other than fanservice.

Shes been the most boring character from the beginning. She does not feel like Rebels or Clone wars era Ahsoka at all and is just grumpy and acting too " I am very wise and right"

And the Anakin part was the only interesting part of the show for her so far lol

Foundation season 2 was so good. Lee Pace is just AMAZING as Empire

It was a little weird in season 1 that the made for TV only genetic dynasty was the most interesting part but I thought in season 2 that all the storylines were pretty interesting.

Lee Pace really does bring it as Empire. I first noticed him in a performance in the show Halt and Catch Fire and I’ve been a big fan since.
Foundation is gonna require a rewatch to catch it all now that I know where it's heading. Feel like there's some important little things I didn't get the first time around. I do like the sheer spectacular scale and power it conveys.
Goyer said they did write the show to be rewarding on a rewatch. I think that’s true for multiple characters and storylines but, in particular, Demerzel would definitely seem different on a rewatch.

Goyer did mention he wants to do a Demerzel spin-off miniseries or explore within the show the following events in her life:
her(his?) creation on earth, the robot wars and ending up sliced apart on the room, and her walking the spiral for the first time.

Yeah I am going to watch Halt and catch fire now just because of him.

I also started rewatching season 1 again too and I appreciate it better than when I first watched it.

So I watched a documentary about the Shining and I really didn’t know how much symbolism there was even if the visual stuff was typical Kubrick. It was really interesting. I decided to watch the sequel Dr Sleep immediately after. I had seen it as an ok movie the one time I watched it but this time around I can really see the director make an effort to carry over the visuals and at least some of the themes and try to update them for a more modern audience. It makes some elements of the movie a bit awkward where old meets new but it makes the movie much more interesting and the director clearly had a good feel for the original and paid tribute to Kubrick even if he obviously isn’t on Kubrick’s level. For anyone who is a fan of horror movies or Kubrick I would absolutely recommend watching The Shining then the documentary Room 237 then Dr Sleep. My youngest is taking a film class this semester and I told him to recommend that sequence to his professor

Ahsoka was weird. On the one hand, it underdelivered on all the things I wanted to see - Ahsoka, her relationship with Sabine, what she's been doing as a ronin Jedi all these years, New Republic politics, etc.

But all the stuff I didn't ask for was really good and went above my expectations - Thrawn, Hera, the witches, Skoll.

I have no idea what they do now because Skoll's mysterious plan was the biggest hook for S2 to me. Are they going to recast him now that Ray has passed? Certainly you can't just drop that entire plotline. Or is Disney going to do the scummy thing where they create a CGI replica of a dead actor and animate their entire performance like they did with Peter Cushing in Rogue One?

They did that with Luke and Leia as well. Luke’s moment was well received if I recall.

I hung in there and finished Ashoka. It’s hard not to be offended by the “blahness” of it all. Just mediocre all the way through with exception of the Anakin episode but that was solely due to the Clone Wars flashbacks which I did enjoy. This wasn’t Ashoka’s show whatsoever and they really should have just called it a sequel to the Rebels TV show.

On a lighter note, but not really, went and saw the Argentinian horror film When Evil Lurks. Whoa. Just a damn well executed, legit scary movie that has some themes and images that will stick with me. I don’t want to say anything more. If you are at all into horror/ gore movies go check it out.

They both were fanboy out moments but looked a bit off. Although I do think Luke in BOBF looked better than his brief appearance in season 2 of the Mandalorian. The technology is getting better (although honestly I think some deep fakes are still better than what Disney and it's billions of dollars can come up with) but it's just not quite there yet. I'd rather they just recast Baylan.

Some of it is probably the different types of audience watching. At my age seeing Hamill as thr Luke from post episode 6 was a fantastic moment. We never saw that. Jedi came out in what ‘81 or ‘82? I hadn’t seen Luke in 40 years? That’s a long time to wait for that moment. Remember it was leaked that Lucas had a 9 episode arc way back then. Given that I don’t keep up with Star Wars minutiae I was not expecting that and it had the maximum impact on me. But I’m old. I’m sure to a younger audience maybe pre-Darth Anakin or the cartoon characters mean much more. It was not perfect but just giving me some Jedi Luke after 40 years was a great moment and I’d thank Filoni and Favreau if I ever had the chance. Fan service isn’t always some sort of evil or lazy thing.
