Watched Rebel Moon recently.

In short it felt very hallow… no depth to the characters or storyline which was large in part to an overall script which seemed rushed.

From what I’ve read, Netflix wanted a PG13 version while Snyder wanted an R.

After the marketing success of the Snyder cut Justice League, they agreed to do a regular first cut of Rebel Moon and then a directors cut to follow it up. This lets Netflix get multiple views for the same property, which they view as some extra success of the property.

I’m personally just going to wait for the directors cut to watch.

Did not know that. If it’s 6 hours long then I could see how they would give enough background to some of the characters that needed more time.

Has anyone watched the new Marvel What If cartoons? They are fun. I like that they have gotten most of the actors known for th roles to do the voice work. If you like the movies you will probably like these. There is a Beatles are everywhere moment in one of I was a big What If? Fan during my comic book collecting days.

We just finished the 2nd season today. I think it was an improvement on the 1st season (which was decent).

Scavenger's Reign (HBO Max) is very good. Sci-fi animated series for adults but any non-idiot kid will appreciate it. If you like Aeon Flux (the cartoon), Moebius / Fantastic Planet, you'll be into it. It's the right kind of weird. Best new thing I've watched all year.

Also saw Beau is Afraid. Not sure I'd call it good and it's long and stressful in a particular way, but no doubt I'm glad he made it. Ari Aster is super talented.

Finally got around to seeing The Many Saints of Newark, incredibly disappointing. Seems like it was driven by HBO execs trying to cash in on Sopranos IP more so than David Chase having anything new or interesting to say about the show. Added almost nothing to my enjoyment of the series.
Best part is the very last scene when the music kicks in.

It was a let down for sure, but had a cpl good moments. Oh and the fact you learn Jr
has dicky whacked
adds some to the episode where christopher goes after the cop.

I also thought it was a bit padded out with fan service, in this case unnecessarily bringing in the younger versions of beloved characters in ways that didn't advance the story much.

Like I don't much care what Paulie or Silvio looked like as younger mobsters.

I actually didn't see it at all, but heard about that part from the spoiler that you mentioned.

I know everyone tried to whack everybody else on the original series at one point, but Junior suggests Christopher be whacked two different times in the series. First time in the first few episodes of the series after the truck hijackings and then in season 4 before he went into drug rehab.

The new season of Fargo has been fire. Has a bunch of moments paying homage to the original movie too.
I haven’t watched any of the other seasons but the cast of this season caught my eye. I haven’t watched today’s but I’ve loved this season so far. Juno Temple is a beast.

The other seasons are all good thanks to a single writer doing them all - Noah Hawley. He doesn't direct that many of them but he lets directors carry several episodes that feels like the major acts of the season. Consistently dark humor but some seasons feel a bit sillier than others. All very much worth the watch.

I need a good comedy. Anyone have a suggestion? I usually like to pair a comedy with a drama and finish them out before moving on. Doing For All Mankind S4 right now, then debating Money Heist: Berlin or Monarch: Legacy of Monsters next.

I binged Abbott Elementary and loved it. Considering Call My Agent as a comedy.

If you’ve never seen IT Crowd, I think that’s a great scripted Comedy.

For more recent stuff, Only Murderers in the Building, The Rehearsal, and The Afterparty.

The Afterparty may actually be my favorite. It’s a mystery murder whodunit that is also a fast paced comedy where each episode is told from a different characters perspective. The genre of each episode matches that characters persona. So one episode may lampoon action movies and then next poke fun at 80s teen comedies.

I find Only Murders to be a bit uneven. I generally love Steve Martin in just about anything and he has his moments here but they are not consistent.
