Spiderverse movie was awesome. Such a great experience, really inspiring.

Really don’t know why Hollywood can’t put that level of care into more things. Or I know why but it seems like bad business either way.
Sophisticated animation is a relatively recent phenomenon as a mainstream film effort. For the longest time anything animated was aimed at kids. Even now something well done like SpiderMan spider verse or Shrek or Pixar has to have a kids element to it. It’s a lot better than it used to be at least.

The Bear on FX is an amazing show for so many reasons. Great characters great lines, great actors. Love it.

We just finished watching the second season. Awesome show.

In addition to the things you mentioned, I also like how the way it is filmed and edited really captures the frenetic pace and barely controlled chaos of being in an overwhelmed restaurant kitchen.

The shots of them preparing food are gorgeous too. As someone who likes to cook, it's cool to see things like that which I know are way beyond my level.

What you said and also the quick ASMR moments when they are preparing food.
We tried watching it last year, but it was during a stressful time in our lives so the frenetic pace was no bueno (we also both have restaurant backgrounds, I met my wife waiting tables in her dads restaurant post-college); however; we gave it another go and binged both seasons in about a week.

The character development is unreal. S02 is so unbelievably enjoyable. Each episode felt like its own self-contained story. The ones where they had Marcus and Richie stage had to be two of my favorites.

I love soundtracks with cinematography...so The Bear absolutely killed it for me.

Also, if you need a summer hobby, please go download Dave the Diver on Steam. Ridiculously playable.

Those reviews are off the charts. Looks like a crazy game.

Last weekend I finally started Vinland Saga season 2. I also finished Vinland Saga season 2 recently. It was very good! More character building than action this season but it was done really well

And Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 has been fantastic so far too

That Barbie movie shouldn't have been as good as it actually was...., I guess it having my celebrity crush actress helps but it was a legit good movie  Gotta get around to Oppenheimer now, lol.

I don’t believe you for one moment besides the celebrity crush on Ryan Gosling.

I’m also removing 2 points from you for going to see that movie in theaters. May God have mercy on your soul.

This is a big weekend lol. Before this the only movies I’d see this summer were Spider-Verse and Guardians (if that counts as summer)
Barbenhiemer!

Margot Robbie will legit make me try just about any movie she’s in to be honest. I still haven’t been able to force myself to start Babylon though.

Still anxiously waiting for Spiderverse and Guardians to come to Disney+ and streaming in general.

Margot Robbie  And I took my niece since my brother and his wife were out of town and she really wanted to see it. I was honestly refreshing my phone for the random Hellebuyck trade within the first 5-10 mins but then it got good and I was like WTF?

Whoever put together the trailers for that movie didn’t do them any favors. I noticed the initial trailers were all PINK and in Barbie land and then later trailers started showing what I assume to be Barbie and Co going into the real world which looked much more palatable to my eyes.

Yeah, I thought it was just gonna be a typical movie geared for girls + kids but I actually liked it a lot..? They did a good job, I'm not a big movie goer so I'm also not gonna review it for what more than it was so that probably helps lol

Honestly shocked to see a positive review, so that’s a good sign for the movie. I give you back your 2 points for being a good Uncle. :)

Someone I trust with movie tastes similar to mine says Oppenheimer was terrible - even worse than Tenet which I could not stand.

He's a big fan of Nolan's movies in general and we both loved Interstallar and of course Dark Knight but we both felt Dunkirk was clunky and Tenet a hot mess so I won't be seeing it until it's on one of my paid services for free just out of curiosity. I was afraid it was gonna be another Fat Man and Little Boy. Great topic, snoozer to watch.

Christopher Nolan is the most overrated director there is.

Period.

His Batman films are basically CSI: Gotham. Which is cool... for the first act then it gets old as f***.

Just got out and it was my favorite Nolan movie in a long time. Haven’t seen Tenet. Dunkirk was meh. I didn’t like Intersellar anywhere near as much as most seemed to. McConaughey was great but on the whole I was pretty bored. Also nowhere near as high on Inception. Maybe it was because I didn’t see it until years later and everyone hyped it up as like “omg best movie ever”. Not even the best Leo movie of 2010, Shutter Island>>>. Enjoyed the TDK trilogy. Rises wasn’t great but fine. I enjoyed his earlier stuff a lot more than the more recent stuff. The Prestige and Memento battled it out for my top spot. It flip flops. Really liked Insomnia too. Have to see the Following. Oppenheimer is now probably my favorite of them all. It was a lot so I’m definitely going to have to see it again at some point

PS there’s a Sean Avery jump scare

Thumbs up from me for Oppenheimer. Yes I am a Nolan stan and think The Dark Knight is the best movie made this century, but I also could see how it would be hard for someone to connect to this movie. It has all the Nolan scattershot timeline stuff that Dunkirk and Tenet had at three hours of length. The main character is also somewhat a cypher we are supposed to look through and experience the film with without ever really knowing what drives him. That seems intentional though. It’s a heady subject to be summer blockbuster fodder and Nolan does play a little heavy handed in his themes, however it is put together with so much skill and care you have to respect it.

There are only a few filmmakers working on his level.

i might revisit these 22 years later to see if my opinion is still the same
