Better than Mandalorian? That's pretty good if so.
debateable because Mandalorian is set as an episodic weekly tale with a little overarching storyline whereas Andor is basically a 12 hour movie being told in weekly chapters. That depth is what is so delicious for me. I like both for what they are but if you had the Andor production crew telling the Mandalorian stories I think it would be even better.

I like season 1 of Mando better still. But the overall writing story arc for Andor is probably better.
Yeah I think this show is the best written Star Wars in a long time. A long time.

Mandalorian feels like people playing with their Star Wars toys in the sandbox, which is fun as hell. This show is more of a spy thriller that just happens to be in the Star Wars universe. Both are very good, they're just different types of shows, which is great. Star Wars needs more variety.

I thought Mandalorian was an old western style show with Mando as essentially Clint Eastwood's man with no name type of character? In any event it was fun and I enjoyed it more than the recent Star Wars movies.

I thought Mando S1 was pretty good. Thought S2 jumped the shark and was more of the same Star Wars fanservice nonsense they’ve leaned so heavily into. Probably won’t watch S3. Got 5ish episodes into Bad Batch and stopped. Didn’t bother to watch Boba. Didn’t bother to watch Kenobi. I might give Andor a shot at some point since it seems like the people I’ve seen who feel the same way I feel about Star Wars say it’s been great.

As an old timer and first generation fan, I thought some of the fan service was fun. Seeing the "Rescue" finale was great since I didn't expect that ending. I was a kid again for a few minutes. That's rare as you get older.

Now with this description I really want to watch Andor. Have to find the time, and convince my wife to watch that ahead of other stuff on our list.

She Hulk got a little better as the season went on but I completely soured on the finale. The 4th wall breaking just went way too far and for me, ruined the finale episode and perhaps the season. It really felt like a very lame way for the writers to not have to explain anything in regards to wrapping up the season all while ripping on Marvels cookie cutter process and highlighting what some online fans here have said they don’t like about superhero movies.

Same. It's a shame because I enjoyed the last episode so much. The opening with the nod to the old hulk series was really fun and it was like all down hill from there. Made the entire episode and season feel absolutely pointless.

Favreau said something along the lines of them wanting to pay homage to the things that inspired Star Wars rather than it being an homage to Star Wars itself, which is where I think that Western/samurai feeling came from.

I know some people didn't like the fan service as much in the second season, but it worked for me because it didn't feel forced. If Luke had just shown up for no story reason then it would have been fan service just for the sake of fan service. The same thing goes for Ahsoka, Boba Fett, Bo-Katan, etc. It made sense for those characters to show up, and while it does make the universe feel smaller, I think it's okay to have some connective tissue to the OT and other parts of Star Wars, as long as they don't overdo it.

Just like real life - there's different genre's within the Star Wars universe of stories to be told. Mando is a fun ride for the kid in me and my boys love sitting down and watching the show with a hero going on adventures with a cute sidekick. The adult in me loves Andor for the art and storytelling that plays to the struggle of people against the empire which is very much relatable in some aspects of our real lives. No reason both and all other flavors of life within the Star Wars universe can't have their venue. There could be a teen group story of how it is living as an up and coming padiwan much like how the Bad Batch tells the antics and struggle of a squad of soldiers. That's what's great - it's Baskin Robbins now with Disney at the helm and not just feature films that try to follow a strict formula for box office success (which has failed for me personally) taking a crazy path to the story telling. I'm enjoying the shows more than the movies at this point unless they start cranking out more Rogue One style features but this tells me the TV series is a better path for that complex plot development with the ability to really deep dive into characters and their motives and slowly bring them all together like a Sunday sauce rather than a bag of microwave popcorn.

I want a Knights of the Old Republic series done with Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon quality. Too much to ask for?

The Game of Thrones show runners were possibly going to make that as a movie trilogy.

It probably would have been great, since they’re good at translating existing story from one property to another.

One day we will probably get some translation of the game and it should be pretty good, even if the character count has to be severely stripped down.

Darn, it’s like I dreamed that up but it still didn’t happen. I feel like a show would work better to allow fleshing out the characters in a better manner but a trilogy would be acceptable too!

With TV looking so good I hope all my favorite properties are tv shows rather than movies but beggars can’t be choosers.

One of my favorite books, Name of the Wind, was set to have a theatrical movie and tv series. The weird part was they were going to make the tv series a prequel to the book and turn the ~600 page book into a single movie. It had Lin Manuel-Miranda attached to make the music but then the whole production was suspended.

I’m kind of happy they did suspend production, there was no way to do that book justice in a 2-3 hour movie. There is a present day and past story both being told in the book and neither could be told well in 2 hours, let alone both.

What is Name of the Wind about?
