Playing Devil’s Advocate, as Columbus GM I would consider moving the pick. There are three reasons why:
1. All of your eggs in one basket - if Bedard has a bad injury you could be screwed but five or six assets spreads the risk.
2. History shows that the winners in this situation are the teams who trade the star. Edmonton wins the cup the year after Gretzky but LA doesn’t for another 25 years. Philly and Lindros have how many cups compared to Colorado?
3. The draft capital that you acquire can build a roster that can do things. Columbus can beat any trade offer next season for Chchyrun/Horvat/whoever.
I wouldn’t take the two offers in the OP but they are a starting point.
Columbus sends 1oa, Merzlikins and Gudbranson
Montreal sends 5oa, Florida 1st, 2024 1st, 2025 2nd, Guhle and Suzuki
Now imagine Michkov is still on the board at 5 and the Florida pick is the base of a trade for a really good d.
Not saying I would do it but I wouldn’t dismiss it out of hand.
