Like I said, Anaheim and Cannucks always get screwed. One of us should get Bedard.

I personally would have no problem with Anaheim getting Bedard - that is, of all the teams that have a realistic shot. Actually, any team but Montreal. Or Vancouver. The reasons should be obvious if my profile pic is visible :)

That’s why Anaheim makes sense. Look what Anaheim did with Ohtani in baseball. He’s a super star. Look at Justin Turner super star for Dodgers. Lebron James etc. California pays the most in the entire country and Canada regarding sports this is factual information.
You mean like how Anaheim has wasted Ohtani, just like they have done with Trout?
The Angels are a pretty rough example of why you think Anaheim deserves a superstar.

Calling Justin Turner a superstar is laughable, and Lebron James was already the most marketable basketball player in the world long before he went to Cali.

Keep crying for Anaheim to win the Bedard lottery though, it’s quite amusing.

Secure new arena deal? Someone to play with Matthews next year as well?
You think risking putting the next potential generational star in a dead zone in the hopes of getting a stadium deal is the most logical reason to rig the lottery??

Hoping to boost revenue amd attention in arz. Leta not pretend he hasn't already tried everything to keep ar in arz.

I'm just saying Bedard is going to a sun belt team. Sharks yotes or ducks. Just my opinion

Sharks aren't considered a sun belt team but I'd happily be down for him coming there.

i dont think mon has enough to put together a huge overpayment to get him, which it would take, imo.

Playing Devil’s Advocate, as Columbus GM I would consider moving the pick. There are three reasons why:

1. All of your eggs in one basket - if Bedard has a bad injury you could be screwed but five or six assets spreads the risk.
2. History shows that the winners in this situation are the teams who trade the star. Edmonton wins the cup the year after Gretzky but LA doesn’t for another 25 years. Philly and Lindros have how many cups compared to Colorado?
3. The draft capital that you acquire can build a roster that can do things. Columbus can beat any trade offer next season for Chchyrun/Horvat/whoever.

I wouldn’t take the two offers in the OP but they are a starting point.

Columbus sends 1oa, Merzlikins and Gudbranson

Montreal sends 5oa, Florida 1st, 2024 1st, 2025 2nd, Guhle and Suzuki

Now imagine Michkov is still on the board at 5 and the Florida pick is the base of a trade for a really good d.

Not saying I would do it but I wouldn’t dismiss it out of hand.
Columbus has been searching for a franchise for our entire existence. We've thought we had a few throughout the years but none have worked out.

Columbus isn't trading the pick, like Jarmo won't even take calls on it, he sprints to the podium with a shit eating grin on his face and makes the pick.

If Columbus wins the lottery, I will accept the following packages

EDM: Connor McDavid

COL: MacKinnon + Makar

BUF: Dahlin + Thompson
I wouldn't even accept those, we need the cost controlled rookie to make the cap work.

It’s already suspect I agree. And it’s touché that Montreal got first overall while the draft was IN! Montreal.

Like coincidence? Highly unlikely. Anaheim or Vancouver deserves that first overall imo. Our teams never had one before.

And it better not goto the Blackhawks. I’ll say that much. They already got a Kane and a Toews. They don’t deserve Bedard. Sorry not sorry
I don’t know about the whole “they deserve it” angle because no team that sucks ass really deserves anything. But I am of the belief that the draft is rigged.

If you don't win the lottery, you don't get Connor Bedard. Period. End of story.

There is no dickering and bargaining to do. There's really no amount of quantity you could keep piling on there to make it work. The team that wins the draft lottery is going to keep that pick and select Bedard.

Its probably been suggested, but what if the two picka offered by Montreal are really early? Like 2nd and 5th or something?

I get that Bedard is the next superstar, but is the difference between him and the next guy that huge that a rebuilding team like Chicago wouldnt go for like, Suzuki + 2nd OA + 5th oa?

Obviously anything is a conjecture at this point, if the picks are 8th and 15th I understand that its a reaounding no

In other news, you don’t deserve a top 5 pick. While majority of us hasn’t had one in years. Luckily Habs are doing okay. They won’t see the light of day in the top 5. And seeing Bedard is moot.

Make it happen Bettman. Us lower dwelling teams deserve this draft more than others.

What team are yiu cheering for lol?

I dont get it, Montreal has been basement dwellers for a while now (with the occasional bump when Price has been healthy). Why do they not "deserve" the first OA?

It would be suspicious if they were fighting for a playoff spot and won he lottery a few years in a row, but they were the literal worst team last season and bad yet again

Same. We’re gonna end up at number 4 or 5 on this draft. Always happens that way with Anaheim. If Vancouver gets Bedard I’m fine with it. Arizona also.

But if it happens to be Montreal Or Blackhawks. I’ll truly be upset.

Lots of us have little faith in this draft to begin with

If Mtl doesn't Win the Bedard derby, what kind of price would they have to pay to get him?

2023 1st (Mtl)
2023 1st (Flo)
Dach

Or

2023 1st (Mtl)
Choice of Suzuki or Caufield
Choice of Roy or Beck

Does it get it done? Or at least, is it a good starting point?
The only way Montreal is getting Bedard is if they win the lottery.

I’m a Ducks fan. And we been waiting a very very long time to get a first overall pick. And so has Vancouver. Those fans been waiting forever since joining the league.

And the league has always been throwing us in weird spots of the draft board with lottery results.

Habs got their gift last year. They should be happy of what they got. And not be greedy asking for another gift when lots of us haven’t had one yet
