Bedard put up gaudy numbers over the tournament, but the difference between his stats against Austria and the US or Czechs were day and night.
And hes team avoided Russia for a whole tourment.

I taked a look at Cooley. He got 7g 7 ass 14 p on 7 games.
If you take away Bedards 13p against germany and austria (a fill in for Russia), and put them as 2p games each, Bedard comes in at 13p. That in itself is great.

But Bedard actually didnt put up so high numers against tougher competion. I know I will get a lot of hate here for this. I like Bedard too, Much because he was in Sweden during Covid and wanted to learn some Euro things, wich he said he picked up,esp. skating from what I get, and took with him back to Canada. I like that move. Very smart.
But it would be fare then to say "Hey!! Logan Cooley will be a generation talent!!" He got 14p in 7 games. No one cares.

Im very impressed with Cooleys numbers.

Bedard is a premium talent who was not one but two steps above other top 3-4 ranked prospect in Carlsson for the upcoming draft. He's going to be special. He scored a lot of points in the tournament but what impressed me most was his work ethic, a super talent that sacrifices the body, that goes all in i all circumstances and he's only 17. Super impressed and cant wait to see what happens on the next level.

Do I think he's going to be as good as McD, Ovy, Crosby or even Malkin at their best? Maybe not - but he's going to be among the best if not the best player in the league at some point.

As for the stats.. clearly, he was never going to score as many points against the other top 6 nations in the tournament like he was against Austria and Germany so the Foppa record was never going to be challenged. But still he managed to score 10 points against those teams which 5 of came in the playoffs which is still great.

I agree here. Bedard will be a impact player for his team. I dont think hes on Malkin, Crosby, McDavid level.
If he works as hard as Crosby offseason he could reach P Kane and MacKinnon.

If MacK and Bedard would meet in a game, I cant see MacKinnon coming out short of that battle. MacKinnon is just so much faster in everything he does. So does P Kane.

I would like to see Bedard get a bit more points against the high competition.
Of his in total16 goals, I think half of them came against Austria, and Germany.

Austria let in 35 goals in 4 games.... They were close to Japan numbers as well.

Exactly. We can only compare what they’ve done in situations that all 3 have experienced. Crosby and McDavid were on better WJC teams at 17. Neither were the best players on their teams. Bedard is by a long shot. He will be generational. Maybe a tier lower than McDavid, but close to the same level as Crosby.

Fixed that sentence for you

How can people say he was barely noticeable yesterday? He set up multiple scoring chances all game long it just wouldn't go in, even when he gave Stankoven a breakaway. All of this while being shadowed by 2 players most of the time. It happens

A high IQ player who is also a high-volume shooter. Not great size, only slightly above average skating, but is the smartest player on the ice.

Auston Matthews / Brayden Point hybrid. Impossible to say how that translates to the NHL, but this is a franchise player at minimum.

You do know Cooley played against weak teams to.

This is getting silly, Bedard had a terrific WJC tournament despite being the youngest player on his team.

All these comps against established stars are silly. Of course Mackinnon does everything faster right now, he's a top 3 player who is fully physically developed and in his prime. He sisnt look anywhere near as explosive as he is now when he was 17, it's called physical maturation and development and I'm sure Bedard will also get stronger and more explosive over the next decade.

Lol better than Peter Forsberg? Lmao. There isn’t very much separation between Crosby and Forsberg btw, you do know Foppa is a clear Top 25 Player All Time right?
Lol crosby is far above forsberg. Top 25 is pushing it. While crosby is a top 10 player ever and wide amount of people have him 5th

Not seeing much that suggests he'll be as good as McDavid, but a slightly better Patrick Kane isn't bad at all.

Bedard literally just became the all time scorer for Canada at the junior level AS A 17 YEAR OLD and people are still attempting to discredit and downplay it lololol. Salt is real.

I can assure everyone in here, if you have doubts about Bedard… he will be a top 5 player in the league, and that’s his floor.

Exactly. We’ve seen three generational players in the past 25 years:

Crosby
Ovechkin
Mcdavid

Bedard is going to be really, really good but he’s not quite in that tier.

Why?

All you can go on is his pre-draft performance, and he is absolutely on the level of them as a prospect.

This is ridiculous for a draft eligible player in the WJC, and it's not like this just came out of nowhere, he's also destroying the WHL as a draft eligible player on a mid team.

What a flipping bum, what he couldn't come 1st in everything?

The guy absolutely demolished his contemporaries despite not just being draft eligible - he's 2 months away from too young for '23 draft. Tearing a hole through WHL despite playing with nobody.

Of course we can't tell how he'll progress as a pro. But as a prospect? In my lifetime there's not a single prospect I'd have over Bedard. His company is Lemieux, Lindros, Crosby, and McD. Period. JFC some of the responses here.

I mean, his play in this tournament was amazing, ofc the best prospect in a long time. I just don’t like to project a kids career based off these tournaments. Too many times we’ve either seen prospects over- or underachieved in the WJC, only for them to show something completely different in pro hockey.

McDavid had what, 11 points when he was 17 - should we believe that Bedard will score 200p per season in the NHL because of this? I really hope we have a future contender for the Art Rosses in the future (getting a lil boring now, McD) in Bedard, but I’ll wait a bit until I start screaming “Generational!”, “Best evuuur!” n stuff

He’s incredible but this is the world juniors, not the NHL. Eberle looked like a lock to be an elite point producer during his run too. His size will hurt him. He also tries to do too much and has looked bad in his own end or on turnovers.
There is absolutely no comparison between these two players. It’s bizarre than anyone would try to use Eberle as a benchmark for Bedard.

Connor Bedard is a good player but do the stats even matter ?
He's a pretty small guy, do you think he will excel in the NHL ?

I'm just comparing him to guys like Jordan Eberle or other players records he has beaten this tournament.
Good feat but the players records he broke aren't the best in the NHL, good but not the best.

Link here shows every record he has broken:

Great player but will he be able to compete with his size ? Seem like a small guy and might get run over a lot. Just my take. :)
Dude looks generational to me. Incredible skater, incredible hands, awesome shot, best IQ of anyone on the ice in an all star best vs best tournament where he’s a year or more younger than most other guys.

I think he'll be good, better than Eberle but for sure due to size I'm not 100% convinced he'll be a superstar.

I will say of the big name superstars I think he reminds me most of Crosby. Not exactly but more than any other superstar IMO.

What is funny is that you think Germany was legitimate. Compared to Austria, perhaps.

Germany is a top 8 hockey nation. Japan....is not.

No clue how good Foppa was?

Great player. Less than 1000 NHL points. If Bedard finishes his career with less than 1000 NHL points, I'd be beyond shocked. In my opinion, Forsberg was like Lindros - great for a short period of time, but overrated overall.
