Very true.Weird how other teams are fine saying that. Yet we have to be overtly stubborn about something as basic as saying a dude tore a ligament.

no the dont. They dont benefit at all. Its just people feeling they are entitled to information they arent entitled to.
quite frankly its none of your, mine or anyone elses business.
nope.
you bought a ticket to a hockey game. That game will be played.
If you bought a hockey ticket contingent on player ______ being in the lineup, your not that bright as a player not playing is a common variable and your feelings can eat sh*t.
If thats a make or break for you be smarter and don't buy tickets until game time.
Cya in a few weeks Geno
How does the nhl get away with shit with legal gambling around?
What did my feelings have to do about anything?
If anything, I'm slightly hurt that you'd sign my yearbook like that, especially after all the times we cut math class together.
not your feeling specifically but in general
yeah i don't get the "nothing to gain" thing when there's nothing to lose either. every other team is straight up. are the pens actually secretly smarter than every other team because they're pointlessly obtuse?
I do think they have something to gain actually. I think it would help there PR. Personally, If I feel as though things are kept from me for whatever reason, I'll be less inclined to invest my time or money in that person or cause. I'm sure I'm not the only individual who feels that way either.
It's to protect our players from being targeted for future injury. You know, because how well that's worked with keeping our roster healthy these past dozen years and all.
I know. It's just being obtuse and pissing people off who they really shouldn't be pissing off. But that's ok. In a couple years when the team struggles mightily and attendance is down, this might play a small factor as to if you want to support the team or not by shelling out good money for a sub par on ice product. It's to protect our players from being targeted for future injury. You know, because how well that's worked with keeping our roster healthy these past dozen years and all.
Well hell, just make up something then! If it’s a left knee injury, just say it’s a cracked rib! Always keep them guessing...It's to protect our players from being targeted for future injury. You know, because how well that's worked with keeping our roster healthy these past dozen years and all.
Sorry to butt in, but I'm a leaf fan/degenerate gambler cruising through this thread for gambling purposes. Malkin's status affects both my fantasy team, and my gambling habits. The NHL is now in bed with these gambling companies and needs to change these archaic injury reporting rules. The NHL could really learn a thing or 2 from the NFL about this sort of thing or people will take there money elsewhere.
Edit: also please get better soon Geno
I think it could be MORE of a distraction. If they just come out and state the injury and the expected timeframe, that’s it, case closed and they’ll update as he progresses. By keeping everything in the desk, they keep people guessing and asking questions and speculating on what’s going on...I think it’s a mindset thing. The less info, the less questions from media, the less of a distraction it is for the players.
Well, maybe not a distraction but like, if you’re not playing well but you know some guy will be back in a week you might just subconsciously rest on your laurels knowing you’re getting help soon. Rather than if it’s just vague and open-ended the players might feel more like “we have to make it work with what we have, we’re not getting any help.” Maybe. Don’t agree with it but that’s been a theory I’ve had.
I think that’s why teams often keep guys that are going to be out a while away from the team. You don’t want guys to be constantly reminded that injuries are a real risk, or even that they’ll be getting good players back eventually, which can affect how they play.
I agree. You're adding unnecessary drama and intrigue by what their current method is. Honestly after 12 or so years of this idiocy you'd think they'd understand it helps no one. I'm sure they know or at least have an excellent idea as to this time frame.I think it could be MORE of a distraction. If they just come out and state the injury and the expected timeframe, that’s it, case closed and they’ll update as he progresses. By keeping everything in the desk, they keep people guessing and asking questions and speculating on what’s going on...
If they want it to be less of a distraction then just lay it all out there and be done...
He'll need to get ''back 2 good''.And worst of all? Just when Geno was back in shape and looking great, he’ll have to start over again when he gets back and it will take time for him to get back to form...
I agree. I’d add that one flaw in my theory is that the injured player knows his own status and probably just shares it with his teammates.I think it could be MORE of a distraction. If they just come out and state the injury and the expected timeframe, that’s it, case closed and they’ll update as he progresses.
