Guessing Malkin’s injury has been nagging him for a while which complicates things. It’s probably already been diagnosed as minor or something you just play through if you can but if it keeps reaggravating they probably have to assess if it’ll improve with X weeks staying off it, rehab etc.

I'd say that's a good guess, @Jacob. If that's the case, my money's on a groin injury sustained early in the season. Which isn't great, but at the same time, better than a knee or high ankle sprain, I guess.

Bone bruises are not fun. I fell on some ice this winter and hit my funny bone on the concrete. It still stings when I bang it lightely into something by acciddent.

What exactly is to be gained by being so coy about injuries? That's what I don't get.

It's not like game video isn't everywhere now.
In this day and age this sort of gamesmanship is absurdly outdated. You're right, it serves no real tangible purpose. Just seems like they want to be deliberately obtuse about such things.

I could sort of understand it if they were afraid knowing an injury was season ending would affect turn out for the team, maybe (and that's a big if). But everyone has now seen the slowed down video of Geno's knee or Zucker's weird ankle thing or Blueger's neck getting cross checked. So, what's the point of keeping the details so close to the vest? It's not like Marchand needs to know which dim mak point to hit with a needle to paralyze Malkin.

Now ask yourself whats to be gained by being open and honest... nothing. Absolutely nothing.

You do not want to give information when you are in trade negotiations with another team. Less info is simply prudent when you are talks to but or sell a player. Malkin is a question mark as to injury and time frame. Zucker as well.

I guess, but we're not trading Malkin or Zucker. :dunno: Or if you mean, you don't want other teams to think we're desperate? I don't think we'll really convince anyone otherwise when we're icing 3 lines of AHLers.

That's a pretty dumb way to look at it though, no offense. The fanbase would certainly benefit from knowing. :dunno:

no the dont. They dont benefit at all. Its just people feeling they are entitled to information they arent entitled to.

quite frankly its none of your, mine or anyone elses business.

Do tell.

You don't think it's worth telling the people who have tickets when a star player is likely to play?

nope.

you bought a ticket to a hockey game. That game will be played.

If you bought a hockey ticket contingent on player ______ being in the lineup, your not that bright as a player not playing is a common variable and your feelings can eat sh*t.

If thats a make or break for you be smarter and don't buy tickets until game time.

The Zucker injury is just super puzzling all around, no word on if there was surgery or what it was.

Good point, especially since it feels like the Pens usually tweet about it as an endorsement of UPMC.

"XXXX underwent successful YYYY surgery today at UPMC. Expected to make a full recovery in 4-6 weeks"

The most likely situation with Zucker is that it is probably a “wait and see injury” to see if he can rehab it or if it’ll need surgery. Be prepared to hear that Zuck was re-evaluated in a week or so and that surgery was needed.

Sad part is, this could likely be the case with Geno as well...

Transparency is a good trait IMO. This sort of inane behavior is noticed. I think it's very disrespectful to the base. Also there's the betting element.

Weird how other teams are fine saying that. Yet we have to be overtly stubborn about something as basic as saying a dude tore a ligament.
