I’d jump on grabbing e staal. We need centers badly or this could get ugly.

Either way, all those “easy” games against NJ and Buffalo don’t look so “easy” now, do they?
I never thought they'd be easy even if we were healthy. Jersey just dogs us! I hate them! We'll be fortunate to have a winning record over this five game stretch.

Let's see now if SID elevates his game with Geno out. Let's see!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the thing though, we needed a 4C before the injuries. Now we're down our 2C and 3C, and our 1C has been playing nothing like he's capable of. Does E. Staal make a difference? The Sabres will want futures, which we're real short on and no longer in the position to keep ignoring.

I don't think E. Staal is as bad as he's seemed in Buffalo, but I don't think he really moves the needle for us either.

I don't fully get this. What future are we stocking up for? Once Sid, Geno and Letang are done we have to draft and develop two number 1 centres and a number 1 D. There's no on the fly re-build for that. It's going to take a minimum of 5 years to draft and develop those guys alone. We can build a whole team in that time. We should be using all our current assets to maximise our next 2 years, not holding on to futures and giving up on whatever fuel those three have left in their career.

5 years ago? Yeah, for sure we shouldn't have been JRing away all our futures, but now? I don't think it makes sense.

Right....I mean most of us will probably never see not 1 but 2 talents again like Crosby/Malkin the rest of our lifes on our team.

As long as you have those 2 on the team you got a shot. Cup or bust, at least we try.

We don't have much in the way of current assets. Four draft picks for '21 plus Addison are gone. And we surely WON'T move picks from '22. Surely not! Maybe you'll have to learn to accept the inevitable. With your mindset you just want to keep burning it down further. We need fire marshall bill here! With your way of thinking we won't be competitive again until 2030. I prefer 2026 or 27. I aint gonna live forever you know. You're very spoiled and selfish!

I'm trading Poulin, Legare if we can get something that helps. I'd trade picks from 22 too.

Staal could probably be had for like a 3rd and a middling prospect I think.

Losing Malkin and Blueger is a big blow. But I still think we can make a push for the playoffs without making any desperate moves. Hopefully this lights a fire under Crosby and the rest of the first line and they play lights out. I think Kappy can still make shit happen on the second line, especially if McCann comes back to center it soon. I know people hate on Jankowski but he fits the mold of Blueger and can replace him for the time being. Maybe we'll see Jarry or a young player step up and reach a new level too. But LW is still the biggest void on this team and that needs addressed imo.

Nothing yet.

Bottom line, I don't think Hextall needs to go out and mortgage the future. But there's a chasm between that and sitting on the sidelines, doing nothing, and 'building for the future'. This isn't Philadelphia. You got Crosby, Malkin, and Letang boss. It's malpractice to do nothing, certainly when they're playing that well. There's no better way to sink the team this season than sending the message to the players that they're on their own this year when there are clear upgrades needed. Figure out a way. That's Hextall's job.

Ultimately, we don't have a great deal to deal away and not all that much to bring up either with most the AHL guys pretty far from being as proven as guys like Guentzel, Rust and TB were down there, so I understand the caution.

But if both Geno and Blueger are out for weeks, there needs to be a C coming in to help out, even if McCann might do well enough with Kappy and Tanev for instance.
Of course, it all requires Sid's line doing serious lifting, because the talent on lines 2-4 up front right now is worst in the NHL.

Gotta be right. Depending on the pick rank I'd say there may not even be a prospect involved.

But, I'd say your probably spot on.

Even if they wanted to make a trade to fill a gap those take a while.

This is what I expect to hear from Sully today re Geno: “He’s still back in Pittsburgh being evaluated. We’ll have more when we know more”...lol, he’s going to punt and obviously we’ll hear nothing until Sunday pregame or Tuesday (Monday is a day off), but he won’t be playing these three games at least against NJD...

Unreal....without G and Teddy, it will be grind, the way Rust and Jake play, and the rest of forwards...getting to play off would be giant accomplishment...Geno is long term with lower body...can't wait to hear that
