That’s what, 7 out of 8 years missing 15-25 games? Hope Geno re-signs but I’d want him to take a bit of a cut due to his inability to stay healthy.

Right, because going knee on knee with a 6ft 6 230lb player who was frankly leading with his knee is definitely a sign that Malkin can’t stay healthy and should take a pay cut. Hockey is a dangerous game and injuries happen. He won’t be taking any pay cut for that.

He's missed significant portions of 10 of the last 12 seasons.

Do you see this team as better than nyi, Philly, bos, or wsh without Malkin and zucker for weeks to come?

Don't have to be better than them, just better than Devils and Sabres. We only have 12 games left against those team's. With McCann back are top 6 won't be terrible. Really hope Zohorna gets a shot during this time.

Hextall should make a trade for a top 6 but I don't have faith he will. No player is out for the season so we should plan for making a playoff team. It really doesn't matter if we are the 4 seed because no team stands out from the rest in the top 5. I am not afraid of any of those teams if the Pens are healthy. A good GM would find something to keep us afloat until Geno and Zucker are back. I will judge Hextall by how he handles these next few weeks.

Uh, are you trying to argue he’s brittle or something? Historically it takes a pretty major hit to take him out for any period of time. That happens in hockey, especially to stars who play aggressive styles. The Penguins aren’t going to ask Malkin to take a pay cut because he gets hurt.

Don't recall saying they should.

But yes, he is fragile for an NHL'er. We're fortunate that Blueger took a step forward this year and improved the center depth to help cover for that. But we're extra unlucky that their injury timelines are almost parallel.

Don't really understand why we're not trying to trade Pettersson for a Center right now. POJ can very comfortably do whatever it is that Petts has done this year., at under a 1/4 of the cost. Still have Riikola and Friedman as backups.

This is stupid.

Well if he is he's certainly taking his sweet time. Could and should have been done weeks ago.
100% agree. This should have been remedied by now. We have a glutton of NHL caliber defensemen and not enough in the way of quality forwards. We're likely gonna lose a defensemen in the ED. There are however teams out there that aren't exactly deep on defense. So this could (in theory) help us on both fronts.

Couldn't disagree more. Do you have anything behind that claim? I think if you go back through and look through the injuries you'll see they are ones other players would not avoid. He plays an aggressive and physical style. We aren't talking little strains here from normal plays that keep him out forever.

The plethora of deals being made this season underlines how salient this point is!

Oh... wait...

It’s easy to suggest that a deal should be made. I agree it should... our team needs some help. But there does not seem to be much in the way of a market. You also don’t want to pay dollars for pennies.

What MUST happen is to check if we can conceivably get help from within, and with what our 4th liners have done, you gotta test-drive Zohorna and Bellerive, stat.
