Letting Campbell walk was a no brainer, he couldn’t afford the contract anyway. Well let’s not forget the Mrazek debacle. He’s extremely lucky if this actually works out, it was a huge gambleDubas got a lot of heat over goaltending decisions this summer. I have been critical at times as well.
But on goaltending: Campbell out - Murray/Samsanov in looking like a massive boon.
He has shown something as a GM here. This is a win for management (if it keeps going this way). I think either way though he has chosen wisely here.
Injury concerns remain front and centre based on past concussion issues, they haven't gone away nor will they. With Murray past concussion history the next collision could be he last for a while if he hits LTIR for months again. We have to hope for good health here , but essentially he is similar to Jake Muzzin in this situation. IMO
Dubas and Keefe inherited a +100 point NHL team, and are now 0-4 and 0-3 come playoff time. These goaltending decisions will really come down to how well the team performs in the playoffs this year , and recent years have not been kind to either Murray nor Samsonov as both sit at 1 win and 7 losses and 2 X lost in round #1 each.
So monitoring the goaltending on a game by game basis in the regular season (outside of injuries) is not such a high priority, as we all know its playoffs or bust this year.

doesn’t really make sense to compare goalies playing on different teams. Murray and Samsonov have been great, so has the whole team defence which also helps. Dubas gambled huge and he has to hope it pays off. He tried it with Mrazek and that was a huge fail. Round 2This season:

Last 3 years, toronto are 5th in game expected against ( probably the best stats right now to evaluate defensive game without goaltending impact)... but if you're only taking this season, they are 18th right now...Not taking any credits from Sammy and Murray but the Leafs D are playing pretty good too and Jack might have the same numbers as Murray and Sammy if he is the Leafs goalie.
Playoffs will be measuring stick for them.
Murray and Sammy are doing well, hope they continue and bring up the Cup.
When the facts change, my opinion changes. It did seem like a high risk move at the same. But I'm happy to be wrong. Winning is the only thing that matters.Dubas really put his nuts on the table going with this tandem likely knowing everyone was going to clown him and the Leafs for months over it...I am loving every bit of having two solid starting goalies and shoving it down the off season warriors throats.
Yeah I mean I am not trying to say having reservations about the pair wasn't warranted...I had reservations myself if cautiously optimistic that one of them would hit. But Dubas essentially put his entire tenure as GM on two massive gambles and as of right now it looks like he is winning big. I guess the reality is as well is that there was no goalie that wasn't a gamble in some way that was on the market. When the facts change, my opinion changes. I mean, he could have paid Campbell and gone with a cheap backup. He did have other options. Thankfully he didn't but he wasn't forced into this.He was left with no other option. If I somehow put myself in that position I would have done the same.

They've really been excellent. I guess they'll just platoon the rest of the way while healthy?I think Mess might be asleep so I'll help him out and post the updated stats for our goalie tandem.
Murray - 5-1-1 , 2.44 GAA and a .927sv%
Samsonov - 7-2-0 , 2.09 GAA and a .924sv%
It is because the goalies are playing well at the moment. The Leafs won't win every game for eternity - so he and a few the others will be back. Hopefully, later than sooner. Though, if the team is in a role they might make an appearance advocating that we ignore everything until the playoffs. Why has the OP of this thread gone into hiding? I thought he loved discussing goalies
Thank you. Hopefully, you will be doing so a lot.I think Mess might be asleep so I'll help him out and post the updated stats for our goalie tandem.

That's what I would do. Right now I would say Murray would be the starter come playoff time because he looks to be more of a calming presence in the net and obviously has a great track record come playoff time. Both guys have been clutch. They've really been excellent. I guess they'll just platoon the rest of the way while healthy?
Your point is still correct, but just a note that we're actually tied for the 2nd best defensive team since 2020, and are 9th best so far this year with our defensive injuries. I think you're looking at totals, but we've played more games.Last 3 years, toronto are 5th in game expected against ( probably the best stats right now to evaluate defensive game without goaltending impact)... but if you're only taking this season, they are 18th right now...
So contrairly to what you telling with all injuries in D, leafs right now are at his worst defensivly in last 3 season
what an awesome problem to haveMurray and Samsonov are both top 10 in both sv % and G.A.A... That's insane.
Suddenly Keefe has a problem of who is the #1 since both are healthy and playing well.
To be fair all offseason acquisitions are a riskWhen the facts change, my opinion changes. It did seem like a high risk move at the same. But I'm happy to be wrong. Winning is the only thing that matters.
I don't remember health being an issue for samsonov.Goalies look great but injury prone goalies start to really break down after they log 20-30 games. Knock on wood, hope that doesn't happen.
