Not taking any credits from Sammy and Murray but the Leafs D are playing pretty good too and Jack might have the same numbers as Murray and Sammy if he is the Leafs goalie.
Playoffs will be measuring stick for them.

Murray and Sammy are doing well, hope they continue and bring up the Cup.
Nah, Leafs are the only reason Jack even had a respectable sv% on the season.

You never hear people complain about knocking the net off when it's Demko or Hellebuyck. "They're so explosive laterally... blah."
Very odd that this is even a story all of a sudden

@Mess where you at man?

I would love to see some updated numbers for our current goalies, and goalies that are no longer with the leafs. You loved to make these kind of posts the first few weeks into the season but for some reason have suddenly stopped?

What happened? I hope you're okay and still able to provide us such insightful analysis from one of the greatest leaf posters on this board!

Goaltending has been terrific, so far. But the change in team defence has been even better.
They’re playing without pressure right now.

Last year in 2021-22 after 24 games the Leafs were 17-6-1 = 35 points on [ 17 wins and 7 losses]

This was based mainly on an outstanding Nov by Jack Campbell where he went 9-2-0 with a 1.27 GAA and .959 sv%

This year in 2022-23 after 24 games the Leafs are 14-5-5 = 35 points on [ 14 wins and 10 losses]

While both new goalies have been solid they were not able to match JC performance and injuries were a concern and both Murray and Samsonov have missed time.

However the comparison of last year to this year after 24 games of the season the Leafs are in the exact same spot points wise in the standings.

PS. However like every Leaf fan knows by now that its not the regular season but rather the playoffs that will make or break this year.

So far it looks like the early doom and gloom about the leafs goaltending has been overblown.

Lets hope they can stay healthy and maybe somehow carry the Leafs to a playoff series win ;)

Injury concerns remain front and centre based on past concussion issues, they haven't gone away nor will they. With Murray past concussion history the next collision could be he last for a while if he hits LTIR for months again. We have to hope for good health here :crossfing , but essentially he is similar to Jake Muzzin in this situation. IMO

Dubas and Keefe inherited a +100 point NHL team, and are now 0-4 and 0-3 come playoff time. These goaltending decisions will really come down to how well the team performs in the playoffs this year , and recent years have not been kind to either Murray nor Samsonov as both sit at 1 win and 7 losses and 2 X lost in round #1 each.

So monitoring the goaltending on a game by game basis in the regular season (outside of injuries) is not such a high priority, as we all know its playoffs or bust this year.

So obey that logic when it's not convenient. You had no problems crapping all over goaltending all October.

Stats aside, the eye test on Murray and Samsonov has been great. The Montreal game was painful, but other than that one, really the goalies have been all anyone could ask for. <insert regular season caveat here>

So anything positive that happens with the goaltending...it is to early to draw any conclusions but Murray gets beat glove hand against Montreal on opening night and that is enough for you to start your typical dooming.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the goaltending situation. I had a lot of doubts and will remain cautiously optimistic. If this works out and into the post season I’ll happily eat crow. Dubas deserves credit so far.

I dont think that's really fair to Jack. When he was playing with confidence, he came up big for us many nights looking very sharp and making game saving stops. It seemed after his nagging injury, he was losing his confidence and then he started getting down on himself (which is his biggest weakness). Then his season started going to shit.

We know the league hates changing rules during the regular season, but they do take notice when they start to see trends, including something they've seen from the goalies.

Dreger: Of late goaltenders pushing the net off its moorings. And we know this from our own experience, often it's the noise of the market in Toronto historically [which] can get loud and force a reaction. So, I'm looking at Toronto Maple Leafs netminder Matt Murray and the fact that he on more than one occasion of late has pushed that net off its mooring – be it with a shoulder, which is fine, or the skate which isn't fine. He's not alone in this regard. [Florida Panthers goalie] Spencer Knight on Monday night had a situation which was questionable. The officials are likely going to be reminded, 'look, recognize the play. Warn the goaltender if it's close. If he does it again, give a penalty.' The belief is if they call a delay of game, that'll stop.

Though unless he has suddenly developed the same spine injury as the one that's keeping Muzzin on LTIR we should be fine ;)

Dubas got a lot of heat over goaltending decisions this summer. I have been critical at times as well.

But on goaltending: Campbell out - Murray/Samsanov in looking like a massive boon.

He has shown something as a GM here. This is a win for management (if it keeps going this way). I think either way though he has chosen wisely here.
