Still can’t believe we ate that Murray contract for only a 3rd & 7th. Dumping 1-year of Marleau costed a top-10 protected 1st.

Regardless of how well Murray does this year, the Leafs should have made the Sens pay another team to retain more.

You can't fully compare those two situations. Marleau was traded to be bought out. Murray was acquired as a player.

It'll be interesting to see how Samsonov reaponds

Felt like Murray went into a shell after that stinker second goal. Hope this isnt him giving up

Murray still a decent starter in NhL

Marleau was at best a 3rd line caliber player who only wanted to play in Toronto or San jose... so the team who will acquire had no choice than buyout his contract... you just cant compare both...

I'd rather have bring Marleau out for 5 mins a night on the 4th line than have Murray actually start multiple games

And having samsonov as plan A and kallgren as play B ( who are closer ahl back up g than nhl back up level)

Personally i prefer take a guedt on a goalie who already proving he can be clutch and raise his game when its matter the most

Yes but it will cost at least a first rounder again.

Not sure I'd agree with that. Hell only have 1 year of term left.

It cost moving back in the draft 13 spots to dump multiple years of Mrazek - and Murray himself cost a 3rd to take kn the 1st place with two years of term remaining.

If Murray flops this season and needs a trade, itll be the cost of around a mid round pick or equivalent asset. Which obviously isn't good, but also isn't an arm and a leg either

No I think it’s pretty similar.

Murray only wanted the Leafs or Oilers and the Oilers already tampered with Jack. In the end the Leafs were the only team in the running. If the Leafs say no, then the Sens either had to keep him or trade him to another team for a buyout. Another option would be buying him out themselves but I don’t think would stomach eating his money and having the off-season they did.

Marleau only wanted San Jose and wouldn’t waive for any other team which forced the Leafs’ hand. San Jose wasn’t going to take on his cap hit so again the Leafs either had to keep him or trade him to another team for a buyout.

The Leafs could have played hard ball and in my opinion should have easily got a better return.
