Post-Game Talk: Winnipeg? More like Loseipeg

Kaliyev isn't very fleet of foot.
I was really rooting for Kaliyev. Shame.

But then again I was rooting for Kakko, Andersson, Kravtsov, Jessiman, Brendl, Henriksson, Lundkvist, Saarela, Malhotra, Tambellini, McIlrath, Werek, Baranka, Grachev, Novak, Asplund, Korpikoski, Sanguinetti, Day, and Gropp. So what the f*** do I know?

Kaliyev isn't very fleet of foot.

One is obvious. One you have no idea about because you have zero clue what drury does in the offseason. Top 6 and defense could look very different. But one thing i do know, we will still have one of the top goalies in the league that on any given night can get us 2 points.
This team has more holes than spots filled. They're not a young team and they'll be a year older.

Hopefully Drury can turn it around but it's unrealistic to expect it to be next year.

The Rangers will retain the 13th overall pick this year to take John Neverscore, a 9th pairing defenseman who plays with a blade-less stick and then bottom out next season, “win” the lottery and allow the Pittsburgh Penguins to use the 1st overall to draft Evgeni Crosby ushering in another 1000 years of suffering.

The videos of super athletic John Neverscore jumping over tractors are going to hit so hard when he's learning offense in the ECHL.

FWIW Trocheck supposedly broke a finger in the four nations tournament. His play post tournament at least some degree reflects that. Overall though it's not been a good season.

I like how Mika has played the last month or so. Pretty much since JT showed up he's been on the same line and his play took a real uptick. Part of the reason we're in the hole that we are though is Mika's really bad first half. Now that's he playing better that's good but it's also a bit late.

There are other forwards with down years---Kreider, Lafreniere and Panarin. We're not going to get rid of all these guys and I would think at least 3 and maybe 4 of them will be with us when training camp opens next year. I don't see Panarin moving unless the Rangers make a big score in free agency like Mitch Marner (if he even gets there). There will be a lot more money from the cap going up and the Rangers I expect will use up most of their cap space. Panarin is still their most lethal offensive forward.....though he will be going into his final year.
Trocheck: If before Four Nations we talked about him having a down season compared to his prior two years here, then coming back from FN his performance took another slide down even from that - driven by his hand injury he suffered in the tournament. Unfortunately I don't see a way to address this short-term and I will be counting on him getting healthy and back to his old form. I don't think his decline is because of where he's at this stage of his career.

Panarin: don't think he's actually having a down year from a career perspective. He was bound to come down from his last year's levels - which feels like a down year altogether but I think his perceived decline is significantly exacerbated by performance of his linemates this season.

Reactions: eco's bones
They got a 1OA and drafted John Neverscore
You are mixing up John Wontscore and John Neverscore.

John Wontscore was a prolific scorer at every level, he just wont be one with the Rangers. He will stop doing everything that made him score and all his issues will be amplified 1000%.

John Neverscore hasn't scored a point since Midgets BUT he does have a swing span that allows him to punch someone in a different county so there is tangible upside. He will be the faster riser in the draft among dumb scouts and we will trade up to get him.

Jones was on the ice for 31 of NYR's 67 shot attempts, 16 of NYR's 32 scoring chances, and 6 of NYR's 10 high-danger chances, while also finishing with a 52% 5v5 xGF% and a 1.68 xGF% rel. How tf does the card say his offense was bad??

Shit makes no sense, that’s why I never pay attention to their cards.

Pretty sure the rangers drafted neverscore with their 1st last season, is there another one in this draft too? What the f***.

Trocheck is legitimately the most underperforming disappointing player this season. Mika turned his season around and has been probably our best forward for over a month now. Trocheck is a ghost. Worse than a ghost, he’s actively hurting the team.

lol at people who think we should trade Fox. This team is even more of a disaster without Fox even at 50% health.
I love Trocheck, but this is correct: his production is down over 30%. I'd like to see that line dispersed honestly. Pan's is down close to 30%. Laf is down about 20%. It's wild that Laf has had the LEAST decline of that line because his play is hugely disappointing. (And I'm a big Laf supporter.) Mix and match and see if any of them can get going with different linemates...

The one guy on this team that really doesn't get objective criticism at all?

No, I don't...
Hmmm, so Lindgren was criticized unobjectively (based on your post) but criticizing Fox that these pages have been flooded with is objective, i.e reasonable?

Laf is one of the biggest jokes, gets his contract and stops trying.

He's worse than all of them. The others just declined/aged

I hate to think that a player just stops trying at 23. I know he smiles a lot unlike Mika but is it possible it's a confidence issue like with Mika?

I'm blaming Marek Malik and Michal Rozsival.

Not for nothing but I would kill for that pairing right now.

You can't continue to roll out that top 6 as it is. There's no justifying leaving ptl together. Berard should be in the lineup, as well as Parsnipkakko. So with that in present my line combos

Cuylle Zibanejad Lafreniere
Panarin Miller Othmann
Kreider Trochek Berard
Parsnipkakko Carrick Rempe
Only thing I disagree with is Mika back at center, honestly. I'd try everything else.

For all the terrible individual seasons this entire team has had, Laf and Tro are by far the worst offenders. I mean neither of them look like they can even skate at the NHL level. Trocheck is absolutely cooked.

This Lafreniere contract is going to be next level horrible if he doesn't get explosively faster this off-season
Panarin's production has declined by almost 30%, Laf by about 20%. Tro, over 30%. Those three, Mika, Kreider... basically our top six sank us this year.
Laf was fine last year and early this year. It's not his physical speed. It's his mentality/confidence or whatever you want to call it.

I can go along with all that.

Commenting today on the trade page about where the Bruins go from here into a full or partial retool/rebuild I think people need to understand that when the cap ceiling goes up the cap floor goes up too and teams are required to at least be at the floor and no team is getting there with a roster mostly full of ELC and cheap 2nd contracts unless they're buying up every career over toxic contact still extant and you might get away with buying up all the shitty paper for all the shitty contracts if you have a semi-disinterested fan base like was the case in Phoenix but Bruins fans Rangers fans are not disinterested at all and not willing to wait out long term toxic contracts to play out.

Like other teams the Rangers need to carry larger contracts. It's just it's best to get value at least close to commensurate from the player carrying it. I think Panarin's been the best player on his line season in and season out. His play can be exasperating at time though---like his sometimes lackadaisical defensive play. Lafreniere's taken the step back that he took forward last year and that's even more exasperating. Trocheck to me is not just about his numbers....good heads up play, defensively reliable, an agitator and a great face-off guy. He brings more in subtle ways than pretty much any of our other forwards.
