Fine by me. If he shows up in the playoffs in "steal the show" mode then the Leafs are a serious cup threatHe'll also have games where he steals the show, though.

Impossible to draw conclusions. Murray might get all 3 or Samsonov might. Most likely one of them will probably get two of the three which means nothing.Murray has only dressed in 2 exhibition games against last year's last overall finishing team Montreal.
Generally Q of C (quality of competition) is a good gauge and indicator as your better goalie generally draws the stronger competition.
Since Murray has already faced Montreal twice he likely gets the season start, since its the Habs on the schedule again. But then if Samsonov gets game #2 Washington a 100 point playoff team and then Murray gets game #3 Ottawa another non playoff team, then it appears Leafs are using Murray against non playoff teams and Sammy against the toughest QofC.
Murray gets the non playoff competition and Sammy gets the playoff one.
Logically however the goalie that gets Washington is the one the Leafs team trust most essentially because its the toughest matchup on the schedule of the first 3.

Just curious about your views here.
Mrazek blew out his groin the first game and reinjured it and was never able to show what he could be really, Campbell was great until he took that rib injury (this is where things are murky...exactly when) and tried to play through it before going on the DL forcing Kallgren to play and he isn't even an NHL goalie.
Im pretty confident in Samsonov outplaying anything we had behind a starter and with Campbell holding a .935 until January 14th, do you think it was injury related or the fact he's never started a full season or both as to why he fell off a cliff?
Kallgren and Mrazek both had .888 save%s for the team last season right?
What is your prediction for Samsonov?
Campbell had a .914 save%.
What is your prediction for Murray?
If Murray doesnt take a hit like last season, do you expect him to be even worse than his .906 last season?
Toronto's team save% was .899 last year and that was with good D numbers.
The only way they get close to that number is if one of the 2 goalies blows up real bad IMO.
Toronto has been sheltering Murray in hopes he regains his confidence, and bringing him along slowly as he missed the last 4 months of last year to injury.Impossible to draw conclusions. He didn’t look great last night.I hope this doesn’t come across as negative for this its own sake, but more just an observation: You could sure see a lot mesh behind Samsonov last night, even when he made the save. It was quite noticeable and does confirm some analysis I’ve read that he isn’t big in the crease at times.

No they can't.Toronto has been sheltering Murray in hopes he regains his confidence, and bringing him along slowly as he missed the last 4 months of last year to injury.
Not only has Murray gotten the easier QofC he also usually gets more of the Leafs regular defense also, where Rielly, Brodie and Giordano are often dressed in front of him.
Samsonov has been treated like the backup, and tossed to the wolves of a better team Ottawa keeping his former team away from Murray, and has often an AHL line-up in front on him.
Samsonov gets Detroit's NHL team yesterday, and its expected Murray will get Detroit's AHL team today while most of Leafs starters will be dressed.
Conclusions can be drawn, as the clues are available to decipher and "Game is afoot"
Samsonov does seem like a bit of a project for our goaltending coaches, but I think most of us figured that’d be the case. Like Campbell, there will be night where he’s an adventure and we will have to give him the run support to come away with 2 points - thankfully we’ve proven exceptionally capable of doing just this. I think the hope is that through teaching and practice they can iron out some of the less desirable tendencies from his game. Young guy, might just need a steady hand to guide him. The raw talent is obvious

Agreed. It is one of the knocks against him. His subconscious 'default' is to back in closer to the goal line and lean forward when he starts relying on instincts. That leaves a lot of net available. May take some time for him to retrain his 'default' to be upright and out more.
Jack was a good dude and all but I hope he gets lit the f*** up in Edmonton. That city and its fans can lick my assGoogle Podcasts ist nicht mehr verfügbar

From Friedman's most recent 32 Thoughts podcast:
"It ended really badly between him and Toronto. And not just because of the contract talks and we have gone in depth on the contract talks about how the two sides were miles apart. But, I heard there were things that were said that both sides weren't happy with. And so Campbell, who has a reputation as a genial nice guy, I think he's angry about how things left and sometimes a bit of anger can be a good thing."

1st and 3rd goals no fault on the goalie.
But the 2nd and 4th goals...wtf is that technique?
He is brutal - he is getting so low and small in his net, he is flaring out way beyond the posts and covering net that isn't even there while giving up a ton of net upstairs.
On the 2nd goal (lower picture) he doesn't even track the puck - instead it looks like he's trying to dodge it.
Also, i noticed he had really poor balance and kept losing his balance falling forward a LOT.
Not a good outing. Looking forward to Samsonov tomorrow.

Those two screen caps describe Murray playing too deep and too spread apart and a big part of the game he was trying to rebuild, to be more upright, more patient, more powerful laterally which looked good in pre-season. I think some of the Leafs track meet tendencies eroded the confidence over the course of the evening.
