How do you guys feel about Shesterkin with his:

Pretty much everybody thinks he's one of the best goalies in hockey right?

I hope Murray continues to improve down the stretch.

You are totally cherry picking stats. Comparing a 3 game stretch to another guy's whole season?

yes in regular season hockey i would too .. but playoffs are a different animal .. some guys are money guys and some aren't .. it is all about handing pressure

I agree. He's been pretty good last few starts, let's see what happens in the next couple of weeks.

Heh, considering how recency kinda rules around here, I was just trying (poorly I guess) to compare Murrays last 3 starts to Shesterkins entire season which is a similar result with him getting absolutely peppered with shots. MM has been OK the last while. Lets hope it continues and we can have two confident goalies going into the playoffs.

Combine that with Woll breaking out further this season and things don't look so bad. I was afraid Woll was going to be another Scott for awhile there.

This team is good enough to carry a goalie through their lows during the regular season. For me, all that matters is what Murray does in the playoffs. If the D can play in the playoffs like they did when half their top dmen were out, I can see Murray/Sammy beating Tampa and giving the Bruins all they can handle.

The plan from the start was likely get 1 young unproven guy with the potential for a breakout + a vet with a track record and see what happened.

I doubt they would have gone with any single goalie as the clear starter over the summer. If it wasn't Murray it would have been someone similar

a good starting goalie wont even be available until the 24-25 ufa season, if they make it to UFA.

If we manage to play enough games, most likely scenario is that both goalies play, and both have their ups and downs along the way.

Since Jan 1st Murray has played 11 games and allowed 4 goals or more in 8 of them. That's not good.

my point is still valid.
perhaps the team should play better in front of him and not depend on their goalies all the time.

However, he was probably our best player in some of those games where he allowed 4+ goals.

For me we lost more due to defensive breakdowns than Murray on Saturday.

Even in the Ottawa game, 3 of 4 the goals were a result of unfortunate bounces that lead to the goals.

You do realize you're comparing a 52 game sample to a 3 game sample right?

Tavares has 2.0 PPG in his last three games.......that's better than McDavid's 1.89 in his last 74.

Yep.

I won't be surprised if Murray plays at least 1 game in the opening series. Samsonov though seems definitely to be the hidden gem we were all hoping for

IMO it’s Samsonov net to lose. Doesn’t mean you overplay him down the stretch. This deployment gives him games against potential playoff opponents and both games to end the season in order to get tuned up and in an every two night routine. Playoffs start the 17th so he has a few days to rest.

Obviously you adjust if injuries happen.
