In the grand scheme of things, unemployment rates are currently at WTF level (below 2% here), so they may not find another job in sport media but they should be fine.

Wow. That’s crazy low for anywhere in Canada and must be close to the lowest rate in the country. It’s 4.8 here. It’s nearly impossible to get staff though since no one from out of town can get a rental and even if they can no one wants to pay 1700+ to rent a 1 bedroom
Yea I just looked and it's at 1.9% here. It's too low I agree, nearly impossible to get staff and nothing is open at night anymore, many restaurants open only 4 or 5 days a week. If you need some home repairs or something good luck. It's certainly not as convenient as people would think.

They even had to pass an additional law last week that forbids hiring children under 14 because businesses were hiring them all over the place and some didn't want to go to school anymore.

We're doing the opposite in the states and allowing more kids to work. What a weird world we live in.

I have no problems with kids working. I started working around 12. It is an incredible learning opportunity to start early. However, there needs to be strict regulations with regards to overall hours worked, specifically hours worked on school nights, and above all else safety must be enhanced. Within that context I have no problems with allowing it. Don't think we should rely on it to fix the immigration gap though. We need a mechanism to allow for an increase immigration in order to fix the shortage of willing labor. But this is probably two exits past where I should have gotten off on a potentially hot button issue.

I grew up on a farm and was working early... and for neighbors under the table when I was like 10. My first real job outside farm work that was 14. There are some real benefits of it IMO, but yeah I agree the regulations should be strict. I'll point out Iowa because it is the easy one... working 6 hours a day during the school year for a 14 year old is IMO too much. At 16, they can work the standard adult hours. I personally think that is 2 years too young for each. Mostly due to our typical education years.

Same, except on ranches. Got a hardship license when I was 14 so I could drive into town for supplies. *LOL* God I miss the 80s.

Can’t wait to see Dater meltdown at not getting this job.
I think he's done with hockey (or he should be), too many chances and either blew them or didn't like where it was going. Hard to see someone as big as The Athletic, ESPN, or Denver Post give him another job after his track record. If something happens, he'll probably write for an Eklund level of site.

He's on his own substack and trying to get his own podcast going. Never give up! Never surrender!

Dater on a Podcast is just a horrible combination - the guy was barely intelligible when he was doing 10 minute sound bites with Sandy Clough last year. Audio podcasts with Adrian Dater? My ears hurt already.

Dude sounds like Milton in "Office Space" after a NyQuil shot.

I remember the first DNVR podcasts with Dater, Jesse and AJ. Sound quality was piss poor on top of everything else.

These podcasts weren't great.

If you don't follow the Avalanche on Twitter (and why would you?) they've been doing a bunch of Taylor Swift related content for the last few days and you may actually damage your spine from cringing
