Yeah man. I've actually been switched to palliative care. They don't expect to cure me. But I still expect to kick the shit out of this thing for as long as possible.

I'm down in Seattle (third week) of radiation/chemo combined therapies. Get to fly back home Saturday and will restart IV chemo until we can think of something else to hit the thing with.

Damn man... hang in there and get some ass kicking in.

The Athletic is quickly becoming the very thing they accused the newspapers of being while they were plucking those newspapers dry of talent.

I don't believe they even have a full-time beat reporter on the Panthers after booting George Richards, and I think Eric Stephens is now covering both the Ducks and Kings. Just...not good.

Aren't they owned by NY times now?

I finally unsubscribed. By the way...doing so is a chore. They ask you are your sure about 8 times before you actually get to unsubscribe. Each time, you have to manually select unsubscribe or "I'm Sure" because each time the default is, I've changed my mind.

They asked my why I left and I told 'em it's because they've raised the rates to over $70/year and have instituted advertising on top of that. Combine that with the fact that they've hired two rookie NHL beat writers for the Avs. Nothing against either of them, but they came into the NHL flat cold with zero contacts. There's just too little insight to be garnered from them and it takes time to cultivate relationships, contacts and knowledge. I felt I wasn't getting anywhere near $70 a year worth out of it. I like DGB and all....but not that much.

I am going to really miss Dom's player cards though if he continues to update those for this season.

[edit...Hey, I didn't mean that to sound like a downer or pity-me type. The funny thing is, if it wasn't for the side effects of chemo, I would swear to you that I'm not sick and am in fact in the best shape I've been in for over two decades. I lost a lot of weight and that's made me feel incredible. I still work 40 hrs at the office (virtually for now) but things are good. The wife and I still making vacation plans for the Mexico beach this winter when the real cold stuff happens. :) ]

What type of cancer? My wife was recently diagnosed and we are having a tough time with it. She's in chemo rounds right now. They found the cancer about 2 weeks after our second child was born. It's been difficult to say the least.

They are running out of money IMO. I paid $9.99 CAD for the whole year for my last subscription at the Athletic, and I wasn't even a new customer.

When you're doing ridiculous deals like that it means that you're very desperate for money.

Mine's colorectal cancer.
It's was dermatologically diagnosed because I was taking medication for rosacea that required monthly blood work and I popped up anemic. Being 47 at the time and in good health there was no reason for that so my dermatoligist deduced I was hemorrhaging internally and referred me to a specialist. Four days later...Dec 26, 2019 I was told I had Stage IV metastatic colorectal cancer and it had metastasized to my liver.

I'm still kicking, fighting screaming and mostly living my best life still three years later. The thing about cancer I want you and your wife to keep in your mind...It's a real kick in the nuts, there's no way to sugar coat that...but. And this is important. There is absolutely no better time in the history of mankind to have been given this diagnosis than today. The treatments, the advancements that have been made over the last 20 years are miraculous. I am reading of trials and studies daily that are showing promises in different forms of cancers.

Feel free to PM anytime buddy.

PSA Y'all....it's awkward as hell to say this but do yourselves a favor and get checked starting at 45. They're saying they believe 1 in 3 men will eventually have this. Catching it early (pre-cancerous) can save your life. If you don't do it for me, do it for Pete. He's a freaking warrior and has knocked his into remission.

because he was a complete a-hole to any caller that even remotely disagreed with anything he had to say. His ego was over the top.
I liked sandy avout 85% of the time. I’m not gonna agree with everyone all the time. Why would anyone call a talk show. I get it was the forum 25 years ago. It isn’t the only way for fans to voice there support/claims.

Enjoy retirement sandy

Ok who was it?

"So dark, Jost deactivated his Instagram because of some mean-spirited messages he received out of the blue from Avs fans telling him the Avs would not have won the Cup had he not been traded. That was a gut punch to a guy who was so loyal to the Avs since being drafted in the first round in 2016 and loved playing for that franchise, in that city and in front of those fans."

Honestly, any AVS fan who went out of their way to rub it in (and suggest we wouldn't have won the cup had he been here) isn't a real fan in my books. Disgusting.

I'll never understand the way people talk about him. He didn't fit well on the Avs, but all he did was show up with a smile everyday, and work his butt off. He's not even here anymore and people still shit on him. Let it go guys.

Just watching the E60 Avs/Wings documentary.

Eh, it was alright. Definitely had a strong Wings lean to it, like 70/30 Wings. McCarty seemed more than a little unhinged  & Draper whiny as hell.

Also had no idea about Konstantinov ): I knew he was in a serious accident but I didn't know that it was a life long traumatic thing, or what exactly happened.

So Baugh wrote a book this summer it seems...with Emily Kaplan

Featuring in-depth reporting and an unforgettable cast of characters both on the ice and in the front office, this is the story of how the Avalanche built the winningest team in the salary cap era, vanquished the reigning back-to-back champion Tampa Bay Lightning, and returned the Stanley Cup to Colorado.
