So, the Penguins under Geno & Sid have tuned out every coach and when they got a new one started to perform again. What made the Pens top brass think Sullivan would be different and have the players listen to him for double or triple the usual time? Or did they just think that Sullivan is the GOAT coach of all coaches and therefore even if he lost the players his GOATNESS would compensate for that from the bench?

If I was Sullivan I would look at the boxscores and find all of the players who had a minus. Then, I wouldn’t allow those players to take their equipment off until they have a game that they are a plus. I think that would motivate them and surely send a message.
Make them play in their boxers only.

Coaches have a shelf life. Should be gone every 3-4 years, or 2 if they are Torts.

When was he supposed to call timeout?

There was a TV timeout with 2:15 left. Crosby won the neutral zone faceoff after the TV timeout.

The next stoppage was the tying goal 58 seconds later.
Yep, you’re right…looked at it again…my bad

Thank goodness for the Blue Jackets, or the Pens would be dead last in the Metro lol…NJD doesn’t seem to have a problem playing on the road in Western Canada and winning…

These post game threads are always a lot of fun and a great way to let off steam.
But one thing remains constant, Sullivan.
The days of him using the kids from the AHL and expecting to recapture that magic is gone. Mostly because the talent he’s looking for isn’t there. Sullivan’s style and management’s tinkering aren’t meshing.
I’m wondering if there’s another coach out there who could get more out of this lineup than Sullivan can. Maybe there’s another GM out there who can make moves that will allow Sullivan to succeed. If I were FSG, I’d see how this month plays out. If the Pens are still out of the playoffs come December, you fire the whole crew.

Missed the game, was at work. Shoulda canned Sullivan in the summer and hired Cassidy. Who can we hire now? is there even anyone left except mr noneck? and would his goalie coach friend join him like he has every team he's been on?
Hold on! My #2 homies have an even worse coach and dibs on Mr. NoNeck. Please leave Manitoba for Seattle Mr. NoNeck, you don't want to play the Caps all the time, anyway...

I could do a lot of complaining but I want to actually focus on the thing I see the most: We have absolutely NO compete level. Bouncing pucks... we lose the battle or skate right by it. Need to stop and start? Nope... Big ole loops. Can we make a 6 foot pass? No.. let's force it between 3 guys on the powerplay to see if we can get a crazy 1 timer out of nowhere. Defensive zone? We turn the puck over more.

Getting older and stronger was supposed to stop this. This is the absolute worst I've seen this team at being strong on the puck. We force passes, turn the puck over, and our goaltending is laughable.

they actually will. Using the Dumo money. $5.5 or so per. Grubauer money. About as effective.
Lol….they’ll also resign Dumo….neither of these is a good idea and Jarry is not as consistent as Grubauer…he runs hot and cold, which is not what you should want in your starting goalie

I think it's the coach. Even last year Puustinen looked good and he immediately had him sent back down instead of riding that out. I don't think we need A+ players to get a jump. We need a coach that identifies who works where. Our coach doesn't see the lads working for anything but the 4th and 3rd lines.

I don’t feel like looking, but I think that’s points in 8 of 10 games for Geno. Which is prob the lead for the team.

I’m expecting a Geno quote to start floating around soon at some point this week. It will light a fire under the teams ass, and Geno will carry them on his back for a few wins till then idk.

I do think it's still really early.

Despite the slump, the Penguins still have a better record than the Blues. They have the same record as Toronto - which Elliotte Friedman reported tonight is unlikely to fire Sheldon Keefe.

And they're essentially the same status as the Stanley Cup champ Avs, who are 4-4-1 with nine points and +2 goal differential, almost identical in every way to the Pens.

The world isn't ending yet. But they at least need to start cleaning some things up.

My biggerish fear at the moment is that I'm not sure we even have a GM capable of making the moves necessary to affect change. I think this is all on the team in front of us.

What moves though? The things that are plaguing this team are generally the performance of the core guys and the inane coaching decisions of Mr. "I'm signed for the next century" Sullivan.

It's funny because I don't think this roster is that bad.

We have a lot of pieces that should work and Sullivan is literally just playing NHL23 and playing GCR 23 minutes a night.

Where was this said about Toronto?

I see Friedman saying that they don’t intend to fire Keefe but if things go bad enough the decision will be made for them.

Is it time to talk about Malkins lazy plays yet? Way too many lazy turnovers in his own zone, also takes way too long to react to it (long elliptical loops instead of cutting back right away). The team has bailed him out of mistakes far too many times for him to keep that A on his jersey

Sid is just as bad right now. Arguably worse tbh. Tons of blind passes and weird low percentage shit to nobody.

Crosby's just playing poorly and his timing is off, he's not making those plays because of a lack of effort
