Confirmed with Link: [Col/Chi/Car] Rantanen (50% by Chicago), Hall, Nils Juntorp to Car - Drury, Necas, 2nd, 4th to Avs, 3rd round pick to Chicago

That statue would rival the Wade and Ronaldo statues….and still be accurate.
I was thinking more Nathan Bedford Forrest tbh

I mean but seriously, did we just make that trade we held to a pie in the sky fantasy for years?

Rantanan?

Seriously? Tulsky, you are the f***ing man. Now just give him his money, he's worth it, and we've saved on so many other contracts that we can afford it. Today is a great day!

Haven't gone back and looked at anything here yet since stuff first started breaking, but WOW again. I love this for the Canes. We'll see what the future holds, but Tulsky got some big brass ones getting these moves done. And we get them done early enough to let guys gel. I'd imagine we'll still be poking around depth, especially on defense as the deadline draws near. I don't know what's left over to make it all work but I trust the foks in charge to figure it out.

It's scary to have Rantanen as a pending UFA and knowing what the speculated asking price has been but I'd still take that risk. We're going to have plenty of cap space as long as we're willing to offer it and can maybe get him in comfy with the Finns. I guess the absolute worst case is we're going to have some cap space to burn this offseason if he doesn't stay. I said before, he certainly has his share of Necas-like issues but he's a hell of a player and scorer. A much more consistent one.

Necas was frustrating, and I was still ready to move on even after the hot start, but I'll miss him and appreciate all his contributions. I have his Stadium Series jersey as I got it to commemorate the best player in that game. And he had some other big moments with the team. I think he'll fit really well in Colorado and allow them to do some things by the deadline to improve their depth, which they need with the plethora of injuries they've fought all year. I'll also miss Drury even though he was more of a reliable fourth line center instead of a bit higher like I thought he might be.

Hall obviously feels like small potatoes compared to Rantanen, but he's a fun player to add just given his history. Hopefully, he'll be a little rejuvenated playing in Carolina. Nothing like the MVP form, but a good depth scorer.

By the way I was joking about being excited for Hall in 2017. Obviously yes I'd love him to turn the clock back but he's a great depth piece, and a guy that in theory probably just wants a cup ring. With all the craziness he's been through in his career he deserves a shot at it. He damn sure wasn't gonna get it in Chicago.

I don’t know if anyone else made this point, but it was clear that Necas and Drury were on their way out with both of them almost going to arbitration. They weren’t in our long term plans anyway.
Agreed on Drury but I do think Necas would've been in our long term plans if we couldn't use him to get a top tier player like we just did with Rants. All the reports were we were extremely high on Necas and that was before his "breakout" this year, and I always thought we'd only move him in a bigger deal for a superstar, which we now have. No way to know for sure but I think if we couldn't get a Rants caliber player then I think we would've worked hard to extend him in the offseason and keep him around long term
