- 50% of Rants salary

Canes receive:
- Rants 50%

So did we pretty much just get Hall for free? that 3rd seems like a decent return for 50% on Rants alone...

If the Canes fail to sign Rantanen, it's not a big deal, either. This UFA class is particularly deep at forward and we are going to have a ton of cap space to work with. This deal basically swaps away an extra season of control and gives us even more space to play with if Rantanen is too rich for them. I like this gamble and even if an extension falls through, I'm pretty sure the Canes brass has proved that they know how to do pro-scouting.

I really do think this could be a win/win trade. I loved Necas but his skillset fits way better with MacKinnon and Makar. Rantanen is a top 10 player that Colorado couldn't afford to pay as they have other elite players with huge contracts, very rare for these players to get traded and the Canes reap the rewards but Necas is a legit return for them considering the situation.

yeah of course, but it's just this year, I feel like they could've gotten a pick for him at the deadline from some other team especially if they retained on him too. 6mil could maybe be better spent for this season but Hall is an interesting guy to take a flyer on and I have no issues with it.

Canes have done a good job on the aho Jarvis Svech deals that they can afford to pay a guy 14 million now and rantanen is that guy
