Posted on the main board, but I wonder if Hall is part of Tulsky maximizing cap space to set up a deadline move.

By retaining on Rantanen and taking 100% of Hall, Tulsky maxes out cap space before Carrier goes on LTIR. Then they have close to the full $2M from Carrier and they can move out Hall as part of a future move to get back $6M in cap space if necessary.

Do I think it happens? Maybe not, but it's a brilliant maneuver if Tulsky pulls it off.
This sounds like a very math geek thing..tulsky

Yeah what I'm reading from that is that we are willing to pay what he wants, what we need to do is make sure we convince him that Raleigh is a place he can see himself for the next 8 years, because the contract is there if he wants it.
Once he sets eyes on Aho's sweet sauna the extension will be a done deal

Their whole team and coach appeared to be in disbelief about it all in the interviews afterwards and completely caught off guard.

Jack, too, as he learned he was traded from his brother and thought it was a joke.
Wait! So Tulsky didn't call and tell Drury what was happening?! How did that go down?

Although Necas is not a prolific producer like Rantanen, he does provide the Avs with a consistent two-way center”

Wyshynski’s source?

Martin Necas.

it's incredible to me how much this happens in pro sports (players finding out they're traded from media). it's extremely common in each of the major sports from what I've seen over the years. shouldn't happen that way but I guess it's just a part of the business -- leaks from the negotiations get out before a team can inform the player

“consistent two-way center” is a natural hat trick of incorrect things about Martin Necas
lol yep, I'm one of his biggest fans and even an advocate of trying him at center but I would not describe him as any of those 3 things. maybe he can become a center but to this point he has no experience there and he's obviously neither consistent nor two-way (though I do think his defense is a bit underrated; he's not an asset defensively but not as bad as some other highly skilled forwards. his speed and effort on the backcheck is top tier)

There was a LONG wait between the time this story leaked until the official trade call. I can understand the GM not calling the players until it’s truly official, because imagine if it falls apart at the last second (which is rare, but does occasionally happen). But it introduces the possibility of a leak, in which case the player has a rotten experience.

yeah exactly and from the team's perspective they obviously don't want players to know they're involved in trade discussions if you can help it, plus these days there are just so many media relationships with people in front offices, agents, etc. and people want the news in pretty much real time so leaks are basically inevitable.

I get that they came over together but I wouldn’t say that Necas is “providing” the Avs with Drury…

I find this hard to get agitated over, having done my work career in companies listed on the stock exchange. As by law anything worthwhile info has to be released to the stock markets first, the employees are only second or third to hear when their work place is getting shut down.

I'm telling you, the national hockey media knows absolutely nothing about this team. We might as well not exist. This does not shock me at all.
