Unlike Colorado, the Canes actually have the cap space for a Rantanen extension. Curious if they do, in fact, pull it off.
If Colorado is planning to go hunting for a big name (they have been connected with Seth Jones suprisingly) I can't see them taking Kotkaniemi and Necas back.
Drury makes more sense in short-term salary and probably better long-term.
And I think Suzuki or Jost can more easily replace Drury than they can Kotkaniemi's cycle game.

well if it's Drury instead of Koko I'd be ecstatic. Nothing against Drury but I think it's been clear the last year and a half that he's nowhere near as good as we hoped he could be. Koko still isn't an ideal 2C by any means but I do like him as a player and once Staal hangs them up he's a great 3C with a solid cap hit. Plus he could still get moved in another trade if we do decide to move on... I honestly believe Koko even with that contract has more value than Drury

When you keep KK to keep your Finnish player count up on the team and get a new Finn, it makes the team more appealing for a super star Finnish player to extend with. The Borg is playing 4D chess again.
Can't put Hall on Staal's line. Makes no sense. Also, Rantanen has been a RW and Hall is a LW.

I was eating dinner and missed this. What the hell is happening? So many mixed feelings. Rantanen and Aho is unreal. Though I’m sure Aho is sad to lose KK too. Necas has incredible potential but not sure he would ever be that guy here reliably.
