Tough to complain about this deal.

Basically get back a younger Clendening in the deal, and he can continue to play in Sweden and lessen the log jam in Rockford/Chicago over the next couple of years.

Sad to see Clendening go, but hope for the best for him in the future, just not against us.

How many of our other prospects have we traded that have actually gone on to be serviceable at other organisations?

Pirri?
Olsen?
Morin?

Pirri
Olsen
J. Hayes
K. Hayes

There will be more. Our prospect glut is amazing.

This move really was a win for everyone. Clandenning has his best chance of playing right here right now, and the Hawks prospect pool gets a short reset in regards to gaining a prospect that's likely not quite as NHL ready. Where a prospect pool gets hairy is when you have a pile of guys all ready for NHL jobs at the same time and nowhere near the roster space to give them all one. I'm sure there are bound to be several more significant pieces in our prospect pool that are going to find new homes within the next year.

For sure. At least one prospect (and probably two) will be bundled with Bickell. If we acquire Vermette or another vet, at least one more prospect will go.

Keep the most promising kids, clear the logjam, rinse & repeat.

Immediately removes Keith and his lousy point shot from our PP once Forsling its here next year..He has a bomb from the point..and unlike Keith,it gets through..I love this deal..Finally we shall get someone who will give us a dominant PP because no team now fears any of our point shooters except maybe Rundblad..but once they fear Forsling's shot and Robin Press and his bomb shot they will not be able to stay back and clog at the crease..will open up ice for our forwards and going to be lots of direct goals and rebound goals from point shots as we see with other teams who have Dman that actually have great point shots and can get them on net..

So according to this and your posts in the prospects thread, the Hawks defense is going to look like this next year:

Mattson - Forsling
Press - Paliotta
?? - Rundblad

By here next year, surely you didn't mean w/the Hawks, right? 'Cause that's flat out ridiculous.

But, yeah, this is a great swap. Pumped.

I think 50 might be on to, or on, something. Trade Keith for Hall, Seabrook for Kessel, Hammer and Bickell for E. Staal. The cap dollars will all be spent on forwards, then just win games 9-8. sounds exciting.

Saad - Toews - Hossa
Sharp - Staal - Kane
Hall - TT - Kessel
don't need a fourth line

Mattson - Forsling
Press - Paliotta
Rundblad - TVR

I wasn't sold on Clendening being able to stick but I think he had value.
I'm not sold on Forsling turning into anything either.

I was a little disappointed that they took on a long project for Clendening but since they are familiar with that club because of Dahlstrom and maybe Dahlbeck before that, I'm inclined to feel a little better about it.

Stan's staff has a pretty good track record overall when it comes to which prospects to bet on and which ones to move out.

I think the straight value is fair, but giving up the development time stings a bit. I like the move better than if it he was traded for a pick.

I don't really get why Vancouver fans weren't way more excited about Forsling, talking about turning a 5th round pick into an AHL All star.

Forsling is an underager at the WJC and made the all tournament team with 4 top-10 prospects in all of hockey and takes a regular shift in a league on par with the AHL as an 18 year old.

He basically Teravainen'd the WJC for a defenseman.

I thought you guys might enjoy to see this Forsling info.

When Forsling was named 1st Team All-Star in the World Juniors, he entered some pretty elite company among defensemen . Over the last 12 years, the majority of 1st Team Defensemen have gone on to have impressive NHL careers. Check out the link and see for yourselves:

You obviously don't spend much time on the Canucks' board. Canucks fans have been wetting their pants over Forsling all year.

One way to say the same thing from the Hawks' perspective is that Stan turned an AHL All-Star defenseman into a WJC All-Tournament defenseman.

That might not sound immediately impressive, until you consider the difference in NHL success rates between those two titles. For every example of a WJC All-Tournament player that flopped, you can probably find two AHL All-Stars that never went anywhere. As a matter of fact, we still have an AHL All-Star defenseman that we know isn't going anywhere in the NHL in TJ Brennan. And Brennan's beat out Clendening in every way this year.

This trade was a win-win for both teams. But the more I look at it for the Hawks, the more I like it.

Why? It's not like we don't have a total logjam of ready to near-ready D-man prospects. Moving AC made abundant sense. Getting a much younger kid in return loosens the jam a bit. Losing the development time? Meh, development is what organizations do.

Pretty much this is Clendening for younger Clendening. Hawks needed to delay, because they have no room for Clendening, so they got another Clendening who is 3 years away from the NHL.

As perfect as a win win that can be, I love trades like this.

I don't see this as Clendening for younger Clendening

Forsling skating and shot is more in line with Leddy honestly. Also reading up on Forsling he seems more like a true PMD then Clendening

Clendening pass is his strength but his skating is not

Agreed 100%. Although I've barely seen any of Forsling yet, he looks a lot like Leddy, except maybe a little bit more defensively sound. Some of the better highlights in that video are his defensive plays. Looks like he knows how to get his shot through on the point too.

Putting up big #'s in AHL mean very little. How has Morin and Pirri worked out in NHL at this point?

And its easy to rack up pts when you neglect to play D

He was pretty much our best player in the WJC, not sure where you are getting "not excited". But we did just turn a 5th round pick into a player that we need, a RH PMD that can play the PP. Maybe Forsling is that guy in 4 years. We couldnt have made this deal before the draft for a 5th.
