Jost + 1st for Giroux @50%

And a 4th round pick somewhere else for Giroux @ another 50% off.

Just do it now and we have our 1/2C replacement while Mackinnon is out.

Not a chance that's enough at the trade deadline. I'd prefer to make a trade now....only increases his value.

Well they actually do get to. It's not like Giroux will say "I'm only playing in Colorado." So it's just a farce that the Flyers will get a poor or weaker return. He'll give the Flyers a list of where he would like to go. Then it's a bidding war between those teams where the Flyers will trade him to the team that gives up the best return.

How big do you think the group of bidders is realistically going to be? Even if he waives for the top 4 teams from each conference, how many of those teams have the cap space to make it work? I'm guessing there will be maybe 2 or 3 teams, at most, who are legitimate bidders. That'll keep the return from being extremely low, but I don't think it's going to drive prices as high as Flyers fans will like. 1st + prospect is likely going to be the base, with the winning team maybe throwing in a 3rd or something like that.

The flyers will be moving on from several players by or at the deadline so retaining on Giroux and taking back expiring contracts to make it work is entirely possible and probable.

Unlucky for you then that Giroux gets to decide where he wants to go!

Also lol at getting more then a 1st + Roster player for a rental. That's about as standard a going rate as you can find.

First point - I don’t see him backing us into a wall. I think he’s gonna cup chase and then come back to Philly.

Second point - I’d rather a prospect or something more appealing than Tyson Jost.

I mean all the teams at the top are in a similar spot salary cap wise. So whoever we trade Giroux to will need retention and/or salary coming back to Philly.

Colorado, St. Louis, NYR, Toronto, Boston....maybe even Tampa, Minnesota, and Florida. Now nobody knows how many of those teams G would actually waive to go to.

I've never argued against a 1st and a prospect as the base for the Giroux trade. It's the quality of the prospect coming back.

I don’t see what the Avs have that they’d be willing to part with that would bring back a valuable player after trading Timmins/1st for Kuemper

Didn't know Giroux was our GM. News to me that he makes trades and determines what the return will be.

Except there hasn't been a player of Giroux's caliber being traded as a rental at the trade deadline since Iginla.........9 years ago.

I think Colorado should pull the trigger here. Giroux in Colorado would be a good fit and definitely makes them solid contenders.

But I also want Colorado to get Eakin for their 4th line.

Even with retention, he's still a tough fit for a lot of contenders, since almost everyone is up against the cap. I also don't see many contenders with expendable players on expiring contracts to help make it work, so I don't know how much that moves the needle for the teams that would give Giroux the best chance to win. The guys who make enough money to clear space for Giroux at 50% are generally useful in their own right.

I'd think Giroux has more loyalty to Philly than Hall did with Buffalo. So should fetch more than Hall. But who knows
Maybe so yeah. But on the flip side, perhaps he intends to resign with the team he chooses to get traded to, in which case his chances of winning a cup in the next couple of seasons would be improved if his new team isn't giving up a massive pile of assets for him, as those assets could be spent on other rentals to further bolster the team.

Because it's not a discussion at that point; you're simply dictating terms. "Take it or leave it" offers no room to converse.
Not exactly. GMs want to remain known as good faith operators so they can maintain healthy work relationships.

You won’t be getting a home run trade for Giroux. You’ll need to dial back your expectations on what compensation will look like. But can your GM get 70 cents on the dollar? A 2023 1st and filler? Sure. I think so.

and if he’s even dealt to the Avs, I think it will be much closer to the deadline.

2023 1st top 2 protected, JTC Compher and Behrens would be a good deal for Philly if Giroux says to his GM. Trade me to the Avs.

Is it 100 cents on the dollar? Nope. But it’s got some valuable pieces. Let’s be real. Philly is rebuilding and you won’t need cap space for a run next year.

Giroux can very much say exactly where he’ll agree to be traded too. You’re wrong to assume he’ll arbitrarily give his GM a list. He might have a few teams he’d try. He may not.

But cap hit makes it harder for anyone to acquire him now. Most contenders have no space. He’s paid handsomely at over $8mm AAV. The later the trade, the easier to fit him under the cap.

What you want and what is possible are probably two different things here.

If the deal goes down, I think it'll be a Colorado 1st + one of its top-3 prospects (Barron, Helleson, Olausson) <---> Giroux.

There will probably be some plusses and minuses on each side, and the Avalanche obviously need to shed salary somehow. But I believe the above would be the framework.

I'm sure an offer will come in the flyers like before they approach him. It's still not out of the realm of possibility they attempt to resign him

I'd bet every dollar in my bank account that G is more likely to give a list, or be asked for a list of teams (multiple) that he'd accept a trade to. Therefore this notion of his value being diminished by him "dictating" exactly where he goes......is bogus.
