Seems like G wants Colorado so the flyers should make it happen. Even if it’s less value. Take the 1st and a prospect with another puck vs prospect.
Seems like G would « prefer » Colorado. Flyers should present G with another fine destination if offer is better. And get back to Colorado to have them improve their bid. That trade deadline morning should see better offers coming fast and furious. Colorado is cup favorite as of now on Vegas books.

It seems some Avs fans have euphoric recall. Yes, they have been playing well this year but have had a bit of an easier schedule. Minnesota gave them a lot to handle in the last game and has a pretty damn good roster. If they add at the deadline they are a very good team and will give the Avs fits. Let’s not forget they played Vegas better than us last post season.

while two years ago they were crippled with injuries losing to Dallas and the year before they snuck in as an eight seed…. Vegas totally took control last year and forechecked the shit out of us. We mentally broke and it’s still a massive hurdle to get over.

Yes the Avs have been coming back in games and have a never say die attitude this year which is quite different than last year when it was all or nothing. That said, let’s chill on the confidence. We haven’t made it past the second round. I for one don’t love the thought of facing the wild with Giroux or not. While I legitimately don’t love the wild and their fans, they are a good team and playing incredibly well.

Avs fans …. Chill a bit

Sakic never offers a 1st unless backed into a situation of need ie. Kuemper. CG is a luxury to add more firepower to the 2nd highest scoring team. Defensively he does add to improve the 11th ranked team.

Not sure on emptying their farm for a UFA. Doubt they move Barron (future EJ replacement), OO or 1st. Jost, Compher, Bowers, Kaut, Ranta and Helleson are possibilities.

CG have a full NMC to limit trade choices. Sakic is not overpaying and wouldn’t be surprised the return is a lot less or another player is being considered if the demand is too high.

2nd + 2 B level prospects.
Please do not make offers like this. It's embarrassing to our Av's fan base. I get it if you want to play hardball and say either Barron or a first and not both. But this offer is insulting. It's like you think that it's our job to come in and offer the worst thing possible and that will lower the flyers fans counteroffer. There's been absurdities on both sides but Flyers fans have been far more reasonable than our side. I swear Av's fans hear that Giroux will limit the field of teams and think that the return will automatically be terrible.

Our team is way too good this year to not get an A tier rental. I am normally a longer term outlook guy, but our entire second line is insane this year and they are all UFA. Giroux could play third line, both special teams and step in whenever and wherever there is an injury or someone underperforming in the top six. It insulates and deepens our offence so well, it makes too much sense. Also possibly Pavelski or Hertl depending on how the coming weeks go and if Fletcher overplays his hand but Giroux makes the most sense.

After Fletcher got fleeced this off season no way he survives if he doesn't get at least fair value for G... He gave a 1st and 2nd for Risto how do you get less for one of the best players in franchise history that is playing extremely well lol
Colorado doesn’t have a first this year. Fletcher deal with Buffalo was complete head scratcher but that doesn’t mean Sakic is required to do the same

I’m Fletcher I want two seconds and a good prospect

The more I think about it the more I think if we swing for the fences we gotta slot Giroux on the second line and get him to take key faceoffs.

Kadri has been possessed on the second line at center, so I’d hate to mess with that. However he’s had a revolving door of line mates and still crushed.

Why not bulk up the 3rd line with guys we already know have chemistry? No matter who we move down there if Giroux comes on, that 3rd line is gonna be filthy.

Bednar likes to have a RHS on the right if possible, so I think we'll probably see Giroux at 2RW with Burakovsky dropping down to 3LW. Either that or Giroux at 3LW to balance scoring a bit.

Yeah I was thinking Bura was the drop too. Do they swap Nuke and Newhook tho too? A 3rd line of Nuke - Jost - Bura could be pretty legit.

Flyers include Brassard in the trade. He's actually been pretty good for us this year and has a great cap hit.

No team will ever "confirm" a rumor. They might be wrong (which I doubt if it's double sourced), but using the "team denying it" as rationale to discredit is absolute hogwash.

Never say never, but Russo is rarely wrong when it comes to this kind of stuff. He's about as plugged in as anyone.

Quite a conundrum. They can't both be wrong.

It would be hilarious if Giroux told Fletcher he wants to be traded to the Avs and then Fletcher goes and tells other teams and reporters something else and then this is how Giroux learns about it. LOL.

Just looking at last year:

- New York traded a 1st, 4th, and two AHLers for pending UFA's 30-year-old Kyle Palmieri (17P in 34GP) and 35-year-old Travis Zajac (18P in 33GP).
- Toronto traded a 1st, 4th, 4th for 33-year-old pending UFA Nick Foligno (16P in 42GP) and Stefan Noesen.
- Tampa traded a 1st, 3rd, 4th(salary retention to DET) for 30-year-old pending UFA David Savard (6P in 40GP) and an AHLer.

(Ironically Foligno, Palmieri, and Savard all have an identical 1 goal scored each this year; with the former two players having identical stat lines: 29GP 1G 6A 7P)

These players are all younger than Giroux, but they check the boxes of being:

1) Age 30+
2) Playoff rentals

They're are all significantly worse than Giroux however, and - with the exception of the now-retired Travis Zajac - were having pretty bad seasons at the time of the trade. But they still all returned 1st round picks + additional picks despite that.

I'm an Avs fan and am expecting a 1st + good prospect (i.e. Barron). Anything less and it'll be a fleecing by Sakic.

You forgot that Giroux has a full NMC and chooses where he wants to go which is 1 or 2 teams. The return I'll be similar to what Hall returned for Buffalo did last season which was a late 2nd

That's completely madeup and a lie. We have no idea what teams or how many Giroux will go to.

Just because we don't know for sure doesn't mean we can't apply logic and reason to the situation. It doesn't make it a lie

Giroux will have his say on where he goes and it will be a handful of teams at most. Just because you don't want it to be true doesn't mean it's not

One thing is for sure, flyers fans will not be happy with the trade once it comes down with the kind of return expected in this thread

Are there only 1-2 contenders?
Rumor (and plain) logic says Giroux wants a shot at the cup.
That is not 1-2 teams.
Late 2nd would be underwhelming.

I respect the wild, they have a great system and some sick talent on the wings coming up (man that Boldy kid is somethin). I didn't intend the statement to be more than my personal analysis/opinion of the current situation. I absolutely still think the Avs can lose a series to the wild especially if they added another scoring threat ESPECIALLY if it's snatching them away from Colorado. The Avs are just insanely good right now and I wasn't trying to gloat or boast. They're better than I, an Avs homer, expected them to be able to be and I really can't tell how good they actually are. The way they look right now, it's hard not to think they'll come out of the west. But they have to do it first, and anything can happen in the PO's.

As for "nobody can add anything to make up the difference"... do you really disagree? Considering cap constraints which are more strangulating than ever, and the available players, I don't think it's that crazy to say the Avs would still be the best in the west even if Giroux was in minny or St. Louis or wherever, you name it. There's such cap gridlock that no team that is on the heels of the Avs atm can make a big enough to move to, on paper, be considered higher powered right now. Just IMO.

The exception is of course Vegas, who could easily be as good or better than the Avs if Eichel hits the ground running. Someone on the Avs board joked about Eichel hypothetically getting crosschecked by Rantanen in the back in his debut, VGK putting him back on LTIR, acquiring Giroux for themselves, and activating Stone and Eichel as soon as the playoffs start. I wouldn't put it past them lol. I'm surprised people aren't more up in arms about that club.
