AVs are among the highest scoring teams in the league. CG would be a fantastic luxury, but Sakic doesn't have the same desperation to fill a position. Greater need big defensive DMan and another G with the fragile Kuemper/Franc on the team. Barron is the future replacement for EJ and money saved extends Mack.

I don't believe Sakic would mortgage the future and offer a large package for a pending UFA regardless of his talent. NMC reduces the offers and Sakic would use this opportunity. Proposal is likely.

Jost
Helleson
Ranta
Would like it as Philly fan.

You forgot that Giroux has a full NMC and chooses where he wants to go which is 1 or 2 teams. The return I'll be similar to what Hall returned for Buffalo did last season which was a late 2nd

Hall signed a show me deal to play with one of the best in Buffalo…and scored 2 goals. Big red flag. G will certainly get more than that. He should also get more than Foligno obviously.

Having followed both Dater and Russo for years, yes... yes they can...

Russo is pretty plugged in when it comes to these types of rumors, especially rumors involving the Wild. I would trust him over Dater every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

He's pretty plugged in to CF. The possibility of CF being in damage control can't be dismissed.

Pierre LeBrun last night on TSN's Insider Trading:

"But Pat Brisson, the agent for Giroux, has the clearance to talk to teams directly and start to put together a shortlist, which, of course, he’ll do with Claude Giroux, if he’s willing to be dealt over the next few weeks. And then that shortlist goes to Chuck Fletcher and Chuck Fletcher has something to work with. Not just one team, but a shortlist of teams so the Flyers can get a decent deal out of this closer to March 21st."

So, no not just 1 team. Sorry to all the people hoping that it's just 1 team he's willing to go to so that it'll drive the value down.

Doesn't it seem kind of poinless to go to every potential team just to be told "we'd love to have Claude on our team!" every time? What exactly is this accomplishing?

Or, do you think they're allowed to talk about potential contracts this summer?

I have no clue. I would still think that the Flyers are the frontrunners to sign him in the offseason. Not saying that another team couldn't resign him either. Like the Avs could potentially resign him especially if/when Kadri walks (for example).

I don't know if they're allowed to talk about contract frameworks while he's under contract with Philly, but they can certainly discuss his role and usage, potential linemates, how to optimize his skills in the team's system, they can almost certainly discuss in generalities what they feel the team might look like in future seasons and whether that might have an impact on the aforementioned factors if Claude does remain there, there's a lot there that can help him pinpoint where he feels he'll be best able to chase a Cup.

Of course the Wild's beat writer has sources close to Philly and Giroux :sarcasm:

Honestly i'm not even sure if Giroux knows exactly where he wants to go yet, and I doubt any other beat writer or 'insider' knows.
To be fair, Russo is the top writer in the league by a wide margin.

I don’t like it.

Behrens has the highest potential out of Barron/Helleson/Behrens and plenty of Avs fans prefer him out of the three.

Probably a bit more risk since he’s a bit undersized, but Behrens is an underrated prospect.

Yeah, I was going to say the same about Behrens.

My suggestion:

Barron + 1st + Compher for Giroux 50% retained.

Arizona also jumps in and retains another 50% of Giroux’s salary and also adds Johan Larsson for Tyson Jost and a conditional pick.
or Ottawa eats up his 50% and you give us Samuel Girard

I think as far as prospects go that’s not too bad. Behrens is right in that Helleson/Barron tier and has some pretty high upside offensively and I’d take Foudy over Kaut and Ranta. If he makes the NHL he’ll be one of the best skaters in the league and while he doesn’t have the other physical gifts that Ranta has he’s also not nearly as brain dead. Could be a real solid 3rd liner.
