Rumor: Chychrun has Soured on Ottawa, Unlikely to Extend

Sens fans (and most experts) were expecting them to roughly be a wild card team. It's quite the stretch to claim any of them were 'planning the parade' unless you don't know what that actually refers to...
likely a reference to ottawa fans anointing themselves as the offseason champs of 2022.

Those were RFA deals to be fair. Players don't have a ton of leverage there.

Toronto is different from the rest of Canada so they'll never have issues keeping American players.

None of the big three in Canada should ever have trouble keeping American players and they never have historically. It's not just Toronto. It's market size.

Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal are bigger/more cosmopolitan cities than most American big cities as well.

How is this guy only 25? He's been the centre of trade rumours for at least 22 years now.
25 with 400+gp. He is a young, veteran, dman. Rare commodity.
Actually just look at rich plsyer has contributed to winning clubs and which is never on a winner. Zadorov seems to be the player who is always helping his club win. Not too sure what Chychrun does?
Sometimes good players are on bad teams. I like Z but he is not near the same tier as Chychrun.

Chychrun has flawless underlying numbers this season

could be a great add considering the price

You're gonna see a huge drop off from a pretty terrible team when he is gone.

Hamonic is straight garbage

No he specifically said he asked Chicago if he could talk to Cat and Chicago said no so he didn’t.

Any half decent GM would walk away at that moment.

Lol. The minute a Top 10 pick comes into play, you either demand access to him or tell them to screw off. That's horrible management.

"We want your Top 10 pick."
"OK, can I talk to him before we finalize?"
"No."
"Aww shucks, OK."

Guy got wrecked by a 33 year old, rookie GM.

Are you serious? It's a very similar situation, brought upon by similar mistakes made by the same GM. Seems like it is a comparable situation to me.

OOF.

Huh. I defended Chychrun's decision to request a trade from the Yotes, he played hard and didn't complain to the media about it taking some time. Obviously not re-signing in Ottawa is his right as a UFA. But after him vetoing a trade to Columbus by telling them he wouldn't sign there and now getting traded to an "approved" team and wanting out of there, not a good look. The one thing I'll still say in his defense is over the last decade the Coyotes and Senators have been the premier teams for gross incompetence, so it could be that he just saw the same stuff in Ottawa as the pre Armstrong Coyotes and said f*** this.

LOL...gotta love this! LOL

Sens fans were planning a parade because they beat LA to get him...one year later they will trade him and take a loss on the trade, similar to the Cat. LOL Keep up the good work Sens!

Do you have any quotes to reference this claim that Senators fans were saying the team is cup contenders after the trade?

The other problem with Chychrun is he has one cheap year left until he’s going to want an 8M+ contract.

Every day you don’t trade him he’s less valuable.

This is such a myth. Kyle Connor, Helle, just re-signed to play in Winnipeg. Matthews just re-signed in Toronto. JT Miller re-signed in Vancouver. Cole Caufield re-signed in Montreal for 8 years. More examples probably exist.

I think it's semi-true here, He just came from a major metro area compaired to Ottawa with great temps, entertainment, etc.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to watch him sign with a southern American team cause of lifestyle outside of the rink. I'd be really surprised if he leaves Ottawa to sign somewhere like Minnesota/Buffalo though.

If OTT retain 50% on the contract I think they could get quite the haul at the TDL. I would imagine they will get back at least what they gave up +.

dubois situation all over again, at some point a player needs to look in the mirror and ask "why does every team i play on suck?"

No, thank you.

Besides having a younger, less expensive, and home-grown option waiting for a roster spot in Edvinsson, I've yet to see or hear anything about Chychrun's play that justifies the hype this guy gets.
I was thinking more along the lines of dumping and upgrading Maatta, Chiarot, and/or Holl.

At least they won’t trade him to a division foe, and have to see and hear about him all year, every year.

If they do, the new regime has to go immediately too. You definitely don’t let Detroit anywhere near him. If the Canucks could make it happen, they’d become much harder to play against, when it counts.
DeBrincat forced their hand a bit because he wasn't under contract, was one year away from UFA and likely everyone knew he wanted to sign in Detroit.

If they trade Chychrun now, he's under contract for the rest of the season and next season and can't negotiate a long-term deal anywhere until July 1, 2024. A team that's competitive right now would likely be interested for a season and a half with the possibility of an extension. So they aren't as blocked in on trade destinations.

Vancouver is the only attractive UFA destination of the bunch.

Leafs had to overpay Matthews, Jets had to overpay Hellebuyck and the other examples are RFAs who couldn't leave for the U.S even if they wanted to.

He clearly wants to go to a contender not a team in a city with great night life 🙄

Vancouver will attract more UFAs since they are a good team now. Pretty sure Jacob would sign long term with Canucks but should we get another LD?

This isn't the same as the player requesting a trade or wanting out. This seems like a mutual parting ways that will be prompted by the player not wanting to sign an extension on July 1st 2024, and Ottawa not being able to risk keeping him to see if he changes his mind at the end of his final season.

The season is over for Ottawa. There is less than 1 percent chance they make the playoffs. So it expedites a trade that otherwise would happen in the summer if they were a playoff team, and Chychrun did not want to re-sign.
