Rumor: Chychrun has Soured on Ottawa, Unlikely to Extend

Do you have any quotes to reference this claim that Senators fans were saying the team is cup contenders after the trade?
LOL...man, people can't take a joke!

Go back and look, you were ALL happy thinking you 'stole' him from LA and the team was playoff bound... again you'll be picking top 5 ...it's not ending well!!!!

Enjoy the endless rebuild!

This is such a myth. Kyle Connor, Helle, just re-signed to play in Winnipeg. Matthews just re-signed in Toronto. JT Miller re-signed in Vancouver. Cole Caufield re-signed in Montreal for 8 years. More examples probably exist.
Not really.

I went through the top-300 and not a single american has played his entire career in Canada so far. Connor, Hellebuyck, Matthews, Caufield, B.Thachuk, Sanderson, Norris etc. they still have time to get back home.

But there was few names, Chris Higgins and Gerry O'Flaherty. Higgins played 55 games in Rangers and 48 games in Panthers, all the other 608 games in Habs and Nucks.

But the winner is Gerry O'Flaherty, 438 NHL games. Played for the Leafs and the Nucks and 1 NHL game in Atlanta Flames.

It's a joke, bud...LOL...seems like sens fans are a little touchy these days ...lol

Annnnnnddd to add, i was at parade when LA won...so I know what it refers to, maybe one day you can experience it, not anytime soon....LOL

My apologies for thinking jokes were supposed to be at least mildly humorous.

Congratulations on celebrating a team you like, winning something.

zegras for chych?
interesting

was going to start a package with Kaliyev or Spence but we can't afford him anyways. Ducks have a great up and coming team. A long term Chychrun would be a nice fit.

The novelty of being at the bottom of the NHL has worn off yet again. Weird.

May be its a sign that any team that has Chychrun on their team will be the bottom dweller.

buyer beware!!!

How dare you?

I mean, this is really stupid.

How many players play their career with one-team period? And for those that don't, how many is it for reasons that have to do with not wanting to play in Canada? On top of that, the majority of teams in the NHL are in the US. So yeah, overwhelming chance a player ends up on a US team at some point in time.

This is without getting into how player movement has changed over the years.

Huh. I defended Chychrun's decision to request a trade from the Yotes, he played hard and didn't complain to the media about it taking some time. Obviously not re-signing in Ottawa is his right as a UFA. But after him vetoing a trade to Columbus by telling them he wouldn't sign there and now getting traded to an "approved" team and wanting out of there, not a good look. The one thing I'll still say in his defense is over the last decade the Coyotes and Senators have been the premier teams for gross incompetence, so it could be that he just saw the same stuff in Ottawa as the pre Armstrong Coyotes and said f*** this.
So he wanted out of ARI a team that plays in a 5,000 college arena(and a poor one at that). the Sens, with a notoriously incompetent management, and CBJ, the team that hired Babcock, and then fired him, before the season started?

Sorry, but he sounds sane to me. Being a Free Agent, means that your "free" to sign with whomever you damn well please.

I bet Ottawa fetches more than what Arizona did.

Depending on what prospect/player they can get, they might. But Arizona was (purposefully?) hampered by the fact that they couldn't take a money back.

Only getting picks for him was bad value but Ottawa shouldn't be handicapping themselves like this.

Isn't Ottawa just a bigger, more French version of Regina? Can't say I wouldn't want out after a year too.

I think it's alright in the sense that it's cute and dissing Ottawa as a city just seems to be a meme at this point. But no, it's definitely not on the level of a Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver but nothing else in Canada is unless you're talking about a few vacations spots.

Players spending their entire career with one team is super rare as is. There is almost 4x as many American teams as there is Canadian so the odds of a player spending their whole career in Canada is slim to begin with.

Especially in the cap era.

No. That's like saying that Washington DC is kind of like a bigger version of Des Moines. True, up to a point, but dismissive, and inaccurate.

Ottawa is a the nations capitol, with all that entails, including the seats of national goverment, embassies from all over the world, various government departments, the nation's museums and galleries with important collections, and historic architecture. In recent years it has also become a tech hub, partly because of the importance of tech in running a modern government(just like DC).

If you don't know a damn thing about the city, how can you have an opinion?

dubois situation all over again, at some point a player needs to look in the mirror and ask "why does every team i play on suck?"
I guess he should learn that how well your centers can defend matters quite a bit.
