Not really.

Elite Prospects - NHL Stats All-time totals

I went through the top-300 and not a single american has played his entire career in Canada so far. Connor, Hellebuyck, Matthews, Caufield, B.Thachuk, Sanderson, Norris etc. they still have time to get back home.

But there was few names, Chris Higgins and Gerry O'Flaherty. Higgins played 55 games in Rangers and 48 games in Panthers, all the other 608 games in Habs and Nucks.

But the winner is Gerry O'Flaherty, 438 NHL games. Played for the Leafs and the Nucks and 1 NHL game in Atlanta Flames.
So what is the argument for American players leaving the US and finishing their career in Canada?

I wonder if he's a burden. Sens were alright and promising last year, but this year at the basement yet again. But since he left the Coyotes they're doing very well.

Oilers should go right after him.

DeBrincat forced their hand a bit because he wasn't under contract, was one year away from UFA and likely everyone knew he wanted to sign in Detroit.

If they trade Chychrun now, he's under contract for the rest of the season and next season and can't negotiate a long-term deal anywhere until July 1, 2024. A team that's competitive right now would likely be interested for a season and a half with the possibility of an extension. So they aren't as blocked in on trade destinations.
They’re not, but a team like Detroit can make a very good offer, and it would really suck if their offer was the best, cause you just can’t allow him to go to a division rival.

It would intensify an already growing rivalry though. Maybe it would be good for the league.

Joking aside, they have to move him somewhere far away from biting them later on. Vancouver is perfect honestly. Hronek is completely fine not carrying a pair. Chychrun could slide right into running that second pairing every night, and really help the Canucks take that next step.

This story has legs because of the situation. He’s a pair carrying dman, and unless they trade Chabot, he’s not carrying one of the two top pairings in Ottawa long term. It’ll be Chabot and Sanderson.. You really can’t have 3 players who are used to carrying playing that alpha role. One has to adjust his game to a supporting role, and he’s just not the type to do that.

He likely sees the writing on the wall. He’s not going to drive play in the Sens Top 4. Something he’s been doing his entire life, and he knows he can do it in the NHL too. So he’s not gonna take a backseat like Hronek is willing to do in Vancouver, playing with Quinn. Now, can the Canucks afford all 3 of them??

I regularly read Ottawa board and don't agree with you...
chychrun has been pretty good this year. chabot has been underwhelming for years. i hope for chabots sake he gets out. not sure if the problem is ottawa or just him. he was outstanding when he was younger but something went wrong somewhere.

He was great to start the year but has been crap the last 20 or so games, albeit like pretty much everyone on the team besides Giroux and Greig.

I figure teams will probably judge him on his established track record of being a stud top 4 D over his struggles, particularly defensively, over the last little bit.

It's a government town through and through, with not much to offer people. Regina is a bit of an undersell, but it's also nowhere near the kind of city say Washington DC, London, Paris, Mexico City and Rome are.
It's almost like there exists about a thousand cities that fit somewhere in between.

But what do they have to offer at this point?

A single 1st isn't going to be enough, and they have no 2nd round picks in the next 3 years.
They easily have enough to get a deal done. Question is would they want to give up the asset? A decent 1st rounder this year (around 20th). Cowan, Nielmela, Minten. You telling me some combination of these wouldn't be enough? I wouldn't trade Cowan if I were the Leafs, but I would include Minten plus for a signed a Chych.

You are right, I am wrong you know what the Ottawa fan base thinks better than I do.

I am a STH who goes to most of the games. Posts daily on the board, plays hockey 3 times a week with all sens fans. Listens to TSN1200 etc. But yeah I am sure you have a better handle on it than I do.

You know what it he most hilarious part of your argument is that anyone thinks that what they read on here is an accurate account of how the fanbase feels.

He just got traded for 11th OA and two 2nds. He is having a better year than last year...... Leafland and the constant overatting of their players. No thats not remotely close to enough. Niemela ? Minten? Minten was the worst player on team Canada. These are tweener prospects.

The only piece that even gets the conversation started is Knies then its a big plus.

Chychrun can't sign an extension until July 1, 2024 so forget a "signed" Chychrun unless you're talking offseason trade which is a different discussion.

No Cowan is probably a non-starter to any sort of deal, especially since Ottawa doesn't want to trade in division if they can help it. If the Leafs don't do Cowan plus their 2024 1st, Ottawa should likely look for better offers. Leafs have two pretty good, not great prospects, in their system in Cowan and Minten, with Cowan likely having a much higher upside. Cowan + 2024 1st is a pretty desperate offer for Toronto to improve their team, but probably what it takes to get Ottawa's ears perked.

If Ottawa decides to trade Jakob Chychrun, what can they get for him? And teams would be interested?

If he's available this is a guy Treliving should be calling on every day.

He's got an extra year, he's 25 so he can replace Brodie long-term.

The only question is would Ottawa deal with Toronto?

They have but that was under old management.

They have also tried not to send guys to division rivals, Mike Hoffman comes to mind.

The Sens have been hesitant to deal within the division.

Garrioch says Winnipeg has called about Chychrun

As they should

It's fun to dump on the Senators, and at the moment it's deserved.

I still think they can flip Chychrun for (almost) what they gave up for him. The Coyotes were hamstrung at the time because they weren't willing to take on money. Theoretically new Sens ownership could retain and/or take bad a contract if it meant optimizing the return.

Obviously they aren't getting a top-12 pick back, but Chychrun at 50% retained could still return a later 1st+2nd+prospect/young player, imo. He's been better than advertised offensively and when he gets to play the left side he's been okay defensively (far less of an issue than anyone not named Sanderson). Now the bit about him being able to play the right side seems like a crock because he is a tire fire over there, at least in Ottawa.

This shouldn't be the DeBrincat situation all over again, if they play this right there should be a long list of teams looking for a top-four LHD who can carry the offence from the back end.

He's not the most ideal trade target for Edmonton since he's not a right shot D and he's been not soo great playing on his off side. Even still I'd gladly pay that price and add in Kulak to off set the cap hit.
