Rumor: Chychrun has Soured on Ottawa, Unlikely to Extend

I mean unlikely to extend doesn't mean impossible. Depending on how much needed changes are made in the off season, I could see Chychrun sticking around.
The Sens are a disaster that just seems to keep getting worse, this isn't something that gets turned around in one offseason.

Wpg 1st + MTL 2nd + Ville Heinola?

Heinola made the team out of camp but was injured in our last preseason game. Looked like one of our best D, on a team that is now #1 in the NHL a number of months later.

Both picks will be top 45

They easily have enough to get a deal done. Question is would they want to give up the asset? A decent 1st rounder this year (around 20th). Cowan, Nielmela, Minten. You telling me some combination of these wouldn't be enough? I wouldn't trade Cowan if I were the Leafs, but I would include Minten plus for a signed a Chych.
It would be Knies + with Ottawa taking back a cap dump. I wouldn’t do it if I were the leafs.

Maybe, maybe not.

There is nothing in the last 5 years of Sens hockey that should make you think they can figure it out in one offseason. This was supposed to be a year they took a big step forward and instead they took 2 massive steps back, fell down, shit their pants and rolled around in it.

It's really starting to look like they are stuck in a never-ending rebuild similar to the one Buffalo has been in for a decade.

K. It can’t be overstated how poorly Dorion was at his job.

Dorian doesn't go out on the ice and play the games. The problem with the Sens wasn't just the GM or coach, it's a lot to do with the players on the team and that is very hard to fix in a single offseason in the cap era.

Picks and value aside, I'd expect Ottawa would prefer a righty.

You are right, I am wrong you know what the Ottawa fan base thinks better than I do.

I am a STH who goes to most of the games. Posts daily on the board, plays hockey 3 times a week with all sens fans. Listens to TSN1200 etc. But yeah I am sure you have a better handle on it than I do.

You know what it he most hilarious part of your argument is that anyone thinks that what they read on here is an accurate account of how the fanbase feels.

He just got traded for 11th OA and two 2nds. He is having a better year than last year...... Leafland and the constant overatting of their players. No thats not remotely close to enough. Niemela ? Minten? Minten was the worst player on team Canada. These are tweener prospects.

The only piece that even gets the conversation started is Knies then its a big plus.

While it ended up being the 11th pick, at the time of the trade it wasn't... had the Sens made the playoffs it would be been a much lower pick.

& Chychrun was under contract for another 2 full seasons / 3 playoff runs. Any trade this year only guarantees you the rest of this season and all of next season.

Imo Chychrun, even with his struggles to help any team he’s on be a winner, has (because of his reputation and contract) a great deal of value. Personally I’m not a fan of the player, but I do believe there will be several GMs who are and they will pay a premium to get him. I see a first and top prospect being paid. Even more if the Sens are expected to take back a contract. This could be one of those trades with the equivalent of 3 firsts as the cost.

If Chychrun could have fetched equivalent of 3 1sts then why didn't Coyotes get that return last season when they traded him with 1 extra playoff run on his contract? Are you saying Coyotes didn't do their due diligence before making that trade or has he increased his value this season? (I am not saying he hasn't increased his value somehow but if you are valuing him higher than last season now that he has 1 less year on his contract, I'd like to hear why)

1/ The notion that he is injury prone is gone
2 / He has one more year under his belt of maintaining a solid scoring pace which includes doubling his goal totals from last year
3 / The 1 year is inconsequential to a team that is committed to extending him and is able to discuss an agreement in principal with him prior to trade.
4 / Ottawa can take salary back. AZ last year curiously chose a trade partner that didn't need that.
5 / Ottawa can better leverage the time they have between now and TDL which Armstrong botched last year
6 / Ottawa is not desperate to trade him as opposed to Armstrong who made it a league wide foregone conclusion that he was dealing him before the TDL.

Your one extra year thing doesn't outweigh the above and your omitting that Armstrong got bent over last year by his own doing. If played right there are lots of reasons to expect an equivalent return, maybe better.

So what is the argument for American players leaving the US and finishing their career in Canada?
Is there anyone other than JT Miller? He's career is not over yet but the way Nucks are trending, he might stay there for rest of his career. Of course there is players who played their few remaining years in Canada, after to their lengthy careers in US based teams.

EDIT. Craig Conroy, so that's 1 out of 300 players.

Not sure how Jacob is feeling but apparently his father Jeff who works in and around the Florida Panthers organization in not a fan at all of the Ottawa Senators fanbase. Lot of reports of mass blockings even without any direct communication or comments.

Weird way the sports world is going these days; where some 12-year-old can post a "you suck" tweet and have the guys father pressuring him out of the market.
