Sens gave up a 'condition' first rounder in 2023 and 'conditional' second round picks in 2024 and 2026 to acquire Chychrun. Not sure what the 'conditions' were. But first and second picks are still first and second round picks at the end of the day.

And I know one thing......if they decide to deal him, they won't get a fraction of that haul back.

I want to say that the condition on the 1st rounder was that it was top 5 protected (and if it wound up in the top 5, it would become an unprotected 1st this year). It wasn't top 5, so it conveyed, but regardless of the condition it was always going to be a 1st round pick.

I'm less sure on the condition for the 2nd rounders. Was it something tied to how far they might go in the playoffs?

Makes sense for Toronto but what does Toronto have to offer. They have 1 piece of interest and they will never trade him.

McCabe + 2mil cap space. Sure Chychrun has 3 times McCabe’s goals and they’re obviously in completely different stratospheres as overall players, but I’ve been told on good authority that the cap savings make it even, and in fact make McCabe more valuable.

At least they won’t trade him to a division foe, and have to see and hear about him all year, every year.

If they do, the new regime has to go immediately too. You definitely don’t let Detroit anywhere near him. If the Canucks could make it happen, they’d become much harder to play against, when it counts.

Chychrun has had above average to very good defensive numbers for a few yrs though so he can't be the problem is he? It's gotta be a systems thing. Chabot on the other hand has always had shockingling bad defensive metrics, which surprised me as I thought he was more of an all arounder when he came into the league.

I don't think Chychrun is part of the problem. He's just not really part of the solution either.

FTR, Chabot has regressed since signing hia big contract.

This is why you don't start selling futures before you're actually competing. OTT learning this lesson twice, apparently.

And what's hilarious is, Detroit and Boston could very well play each other in the first round, which makes it a 50% chance that the Debrincat pick is 29th or later.

Better recheck , as that’s wrong.

Hang on, let me re-check:

  1. The teams that did not qualify for the playoffs the previous season (picks 1–16)
  2. The teams that made the playoffs in the previous season but did not win either their division in the regular season or play in the Conference Finals (picks 17–24 up to 28)
  3. The teams that won their divisions in the previous season but did not play in the Conference Finals (potentially picks 25–28)
  4. The teams that lose in Conference Finals (picks 29 and 30)
  5. The team that was the runner-up in the Stanley Cup Finals (pick 31)
  6. The team that won the Stanley Cup in the previous season (pick 32)
What did I say, again?

Detroit vs. Boston in the first round means one makes the second round. Last I checked that makes it a 50% chance that whichever makes the second round wins their series, making them a conference finalist.

Do I need to remind you where Conference Finalists start picking? Or do you just concede that what I said was accurate and that you're the one who's wrong.

Can you blame him? Hes been on a bad teams his entire career, probably wants to play on a. consistent playoff team.

The hometown thing is overblown. I get his dad is from there and he has family there, but he grew up in Florida and then Toronto. He never really lived in Ottawa until he was traded there.

Okay, I see Jeff grew up there. But, this is still by far the most liberal usage of hometown I've seen. It'd be like saying Brady Tkachuk's hometown is either Winnipeg or Boston.

I've never seen anyone referred to their hometown being where their dad grew up and there grandparents live.

There's very few good NHL players from Ottawa, so I presume the Sens media pumps up someone even with the smallest connection.

Thing is the reason Dorion traded for DBC and Chychrun is because the players on the Sens wanted the team to take the next step.

Both players are younger guys, so it made sense future-wise

A lot of assumptions in there including Detroit Winning lol

That's kinda my point... They started giving up good picks before they even knew if they were competitive.

None of which is relevant to the point that your claim that I needed to recheck my statement and that I was wrong, was incorrect, right?

By the way, I don't think I ever assumed Detroit would win. I suggested that it was possible they play Boston in the first round. Considering Boston has led the division since pretty much day one, that actually suggests that Detroit would finish worse than their current placement.

... Grasping at straws to double down was a much worse decision than just tucking tail and ghosting the thread.

No it’s 0 chance for Detroit , that’s the whole point, they won’t win.
Not too mention your off topic.

Detroit wont win what?

Also, don't try to hide behind "Stay on topic" now. The origin was comparing the Chychrun situation to the Debrincat one, which is very much on topic. You took issue with my pointing out the possible placement of the pick Ottawa got for Debrincat being 29th or later and claimed that it was factually inaccurate. It wasn't, and now you're trying to hide behind "Stay on topic" because you embarrassed yourself.

lol no, DeBrincat has zero to do with speculation that Chychurn might not re-sign. Your just trolling now in a thread that has nothing to do with DBC.
