Rumor: Chychrun has Soured on Ottawa, Unlikely to Extend

So instead of wanting to be part of the solution he just wants to leave and join a team that’s already good? Well good leave, don’t let the door hit you on the way out

The usual HF posters jumping all over a team when they appear to be down.
Ahhhh the humanity of it all!
I for one wish for success in Ottawa and they're not that far off from it really.
Just think .. a top 5 pick this year for sure I would think ... maybe a stud RD coming Ottawa's way ... just what they need.

Who are most the shit tier GMs of all time?

Mike Milbury is top dog but Benning and Dorion were complete disasters.

Dorion lost a 1st rounder because he botched a trade (probably straight up lied to Vegas when giving them Dadonov). What the ever living f*** kind of clown show did he run?
Los Angeles nominates…Sam McMaster.

Benning on the other hand i'd put closer to Millbury. Did he ever make one actually good/smart move? Only thing he did right was drafting Pettersson and even then most would say that was a layup.

Benning wanted Glass instead of Pettersson. He was over ruled by Linden and others to get Pettersson.

Now Benning is in the witness protection program after he was fired.

As a fan
Tkachuk is next to ask out
It's crazy to even think about but I'm almost at the point where I think him or somebody significant like Chabot needs to be moved out. Pierre Morion gave Tkachuk the "C", signed all his guys to long term deals and traded significant draft capitol for what is turning out to be rentals on a lottery team. He did that without this core group even sniffing any amount of success and now we are left in cap hell with a shitty prospect pool and disgruntled "star" players.

Its actually impressive how everything except the Karlsson trade and 2020 draft have been a complete swing and a miss.

I don't think the Coyotes actually gambled.
They did. Bill Armstrong stated in several interviews immediately following the trade that he and his front office evaluated the Sens roster and remaining schedule and they were confident the pick would be very good. They prioritized potential pick placement. They were right.
I believe they did Chychrun a big favor by trading him to the destiny that he wanted and got back what they could. They did luck out.
Doesn’t fit the MO, at all, to be honest. I don’t think this is right.
I sense JC didn't realize how good he had it in AZ.
Hmmm…I think he just went from one bad team to another. He might like to try things out on a good team for once.

Strikes me as the kind of player that would want to make max dollars on a team like San Jose, Chicago or Anaheim

This dude is going to spend his whole career thinking the grass is greener somewhere else and by the time he's smart enough to realize it's not it'll be too late. Sad.

I tend to agree with this, but if we're being fair, he basically went from one last place team to another last place team.

Anyway, I realize I'm very late to the punch on this, so let me add: His dad's on the Panthers broadcast and he's originally from South Florida. Could be mutual interest there.

Don't really need a D. Replacement. Ottawa has way too many similar left-handed D men.

Likely looking for one good future piece. A 1st or a good prospect. Along with maybe a reclamation project type player, even one with negative value due to a poor short-term contract. Mostly to make money work and create a bigger market.

Then maybe a secondary piece, 2nd, B prospect etc.
So 1st + Kuzmenko??

This is a guy Vancouver should target.
Brady Tkatchuk is a guy Vancouver should be targeting. Imagine BT on a line with Pettersson! Won’t happen, of course. BT isn’t going anywhere. But dang those two would be amazing together!!!

Probably in that ballpark. Maybe another pick or prospect added. I'm sure the Sens will shop around and find out what the market is looking like.

His salary of 4.6m per for the this season and next should allow for playoff teams close to the cap to fit him in with a contract coming back or retention.
Okay; any position or draft pedigree expected from that prospect, if you're looking to address an organizational weakness? 1st and Kuzmenko we can definitely work with as a foundation.

He has 2 years of term left so I think the trade will be more than just a 1st. If the market for him is soft to the point that he is only worth a playoff 1st and some small pluses, that's a return they can get next year at the deadline.

So he won't go for rental prices. The price Ottawa got him for last year was also deflated because Arizona couldn't take back money due to their budget. Ottawa shouldn't have that problem with their new ownership.

I could see it structured similarly to past deadline trades of star players who had multiple years of team control like Meier.

-2024 1st Round Pick
-Lower-end 1st Round Talent Prospect Under 22
-2025 2nd Round Pick (Conditional 2025 1st if team makes Conference Final)
-One or Two C-level assets
-Redundant Roster Player with 1-2 years of term at 4.6M or less

That, or they make an actual hockey trade, or get a better player than is typically given up at the deadline.

If the best offer is a typical deadline-rental return, they might as well wait for July 1st and see if he is willing to work with them on a sign-and-trade since they can always go back and get a 1st for him later on if that doesn't pan out.

There are 2 sides to every story. In AZ, Chych was going to be a cornerstone when BA took over, along with the other young players, that was the plan and I think Chych was good with it. It all changed after BA dumped DVO/Garland, chych went back to BA and said he wanted out, now realizing the rebuild would take much longer then he had anticipated. BA said ok, then took 18 months to move him. I didn't think that was fair to Chych and it prolonged the rebuild for AZ. BA thought he would get a much better return but after so long, he took the best offer.

Chych has always been a middle pairing D, and on D he isn't good enough to take the toughest assignments on a top pair. Great on offense and on most #1 PP units. That is the book, it hasn't changed.

If he wants out, who knows why for sure, maybe he has been mislead like in AZ a bit. I think he is a very good player and a good fit for many teams, the Sens should get a nice return if they move him.
