A different player since his return. Involved because he is using tremendous physical gifts to create chances. The guy has such a quick, hard, accurate shot. If he can continue to use his amazing combination of size and speed, it's practically inevitable that things will happen.

His ability to make quick passes in tight spaces is very under rated as well. imo.

I think Kreider has more game-breaking ability than Stepan. His ceiling is higher IMO. A treat to have two very high offensive players be developed in our system though.

If this was an 82 game season, Step would be on pace for about 65 points. I think thats game breaking ability, so I think you have to give him his due... I know what you are saying, but Step is having a really great year on an anemic offensive team.

He's the best player on this team this year. I am not knocking him. I am talking about ceilings here. I think Kreiders is higher. That's not a knock on Stepan.

Kreider has more tools than Stepan and has shown he can utilize them at a high level. It's a matter of putting everything together.

Agreed here.

BUT the other thing to note...his physical presence. Kreider is taking the body consistently. He is making sure he finishes his checks. He is going to the net and he is getting under the skin of his opponents. I noticed it in the Washington game and obviously last night it happened twice. Drew a penalty at the end of the game against Luke Schenn. That is a huge plus. The kid grew up a little bit after being sent down. He is showing some brass balls out there and I love it.

Someone spoke with Kreider. He didn't hit guys late in college or very early in his pro career.

Last years playoffs and earlier this season he seemed to me hesitant about throwing body checks as if he wasn't sure what he was doing or how hard he should run someone. Maybe he's finally turned the corner on that.

One thing that concerns me is since his draft year is his second halves of seasons have been much better than the firsts. He's a slow starter and needs to get beyond that or he's going to be doing the back and forth from the AHL/NHL next year as well.

Last year he played about 65 games and he's fairly close to that now--at 56. Full NHL season and playoffs is going to be 100 games anyway if your team is going deep. That's another thing he is going to have to deal with.

While I agree that Chris has better physical tools than Derek, I disagree with you when you say Chris has a higher ceiling. Stepan is a very cerebral player who is a very underrated playmaker. I would take the playmaking center over a goal-scoring winger 8/10 times. I think Stepan flirts with the 70 point mark in his career while I see Kreider maxing out at 55-60.

The Kreider we need is back. Hopefully Zucc inserts some much needed creativity and if Jesper can get on the ice I think we will all be pleasantly surprised by his skill set.

agree 100%. When at BC and in the WJCs he made many slick little passes that go unnoticed. He will do the same thing here once he is comfortable and is reacting instead of thinking all the time.

Agreed.

He has to find his own style here, but Cally is a good example to follow. A player with Kreiders set of attributes has to make himself difficult to play against.

From my point of view what's impressive is that agitating the opposition does not appear to be something that comes naturally to him. He's a bit awkward with it right now. He's never had to try and impose his will before. His size, speed, and skill just made that a reality. Now he's facing guys every bit as big and strong as he is.

So he's stretching himself a bit. We'll see how that goes. Eventually, he will be confronted directly. I'll be looking to see how he handles that.

I see Kreider as a bona-fide first liner. I see Stepan as a 1B type center.

I was very confident that when Kreider returned he would be much much better and it looks like i was right so far. His confidence is back and his is even playing a little chippy which i like. I noticed how he was getting under the skin of players from washington and the flyers. Also he is shooting a lot more i think he has 8 or 9 SOG in the past 2 games

I agree its not a knock on stepan at all. stepan shpuld be playing with kreider. Hopefully next year our first line will be nash-stepan-kreider that would be a tough line to stop. Stepan is becoming a greart playmaker, nash is a top scorer, and kreider is a budding power forward with speed of hagelin

Kreider has big potential but it's unfair to compare him to a guy who came in and put up 45 points his rookie season, AND followed that up with more points the next season, AND is following that season up with a better one.

Stepan, as of right now, is a much better bet to reach his ceiling, and considering Steps has outplayed Kreids at every level (college, WJC, the NHL now) I think it's fair to say Steps has the higher ceiling, too.

Not to say Kreider won't be good. But I think Kreider has 25-30 goal potential, while Stepan has 70+ point potential.

I dont think anybody was putting down stepan and/or comparing stepan to kreider. as of now stepan has proven to be a very good player while kreider is still learning. Stepan has been tremendous i think can be even better. I think people were just saying that skillwise kreider has a ridiculous ceiling. I think Kreider is gonna put up some points this last 16 games because he is playing with swag and confidence

Kreider reminds me of Dubinsky in the sense that his game is exponential better when he gets involved in the extracurricular stuff. You can probably say that about a number of players though.

I'm a big fan of the kid, just like DelZotto and DZ came along and still is. Anyway Kreider will be golden, just leave him be and let him play his game. I have plenty of faith n him. Been a fan since the draft

I liked his attitude in that Philly game. Miller plays a good game because of his Jam. DZ plays a good game because of his swagger. Kreids is a nice nice kid (referring to his relative inexperience as opposed to age, I suppose) but he does seem to enjoy the game when he's being less serious about it all. The playoffs saw him perform because he was care free. It was a out of college, let's giver a go situation where there were no real expectations. Once he was playing with confidence, he consistently improved. His deal with Giroux last game showed a nice bit of openness on the ice which is always what you want from a young player.
