Krieder is the first player in NHL history who’s first 2 goals were playoff game winners.

He was handled like $hit by this coach. bounced up and down the line up, sent up, sent down.

If this is the way the “Coach†is going to handle our young talent, I fear for us the longer he stays on board.

And those of you who advocate a “rebuild†with this madman at the helm...

good thing you’re not running this show. Torts is no better than that retread Melrose. Two Bums.

With what this team needed, Kreider should've been given a longer leash. They needed scoring. You can refer to Hagelin, Stepan, and Miller all you want but not one of those guys are a pure goal scorer. Kreider is. This team needed that, especially on the PP.

If you want to tell me Kreider deserved more PP time, fine. I can buy that. The PP has been abysmal for God knows how long. Giving a guy undeserved ice time because he has the potential to score despite not playing well enough to merit that ice time, sends the wrong message. That leads to the entitled way of thinking. I am referring to those guys because they played their way into the top 9. Believe it or not, Torts was doing what's best for Kreider and the Rangers LONG TERM. It is about developing good habits and becoming a pro. FWIW, compared to his even strength time, he got decent PP time. Particularly, his first stint up with the big club this year.

This is an absurd post. Comparing Torts to Melrose. Hyperbole much?

How has Torts handled the growth of Staal, McDonagh, Del Zotto, Stepan and Hagelin?

EDIT: I don't want to turn this into another Tortorella thread. Or get bogged down in defending Torts. The guy has a lot of warts. Has done a lot wrong. Has done a lot right. His resume with respect to young players however, speaks for itself.

Staal was on the roster before Torts arrived here... ????

Torts lets certain players get away with things, others not.

Because he didn't screw with every young player doesn't absolve him from
Mishandling Krieder.

Staal had played a season and a half. Not exactly a veteran. You have named one player and it's unclear whether his handling of him was harmful or not at this point. I obviously contend it isn't.

The one guy who I will grant you he has been infuriatingly preferential to is Richards who still got PP time somehow.

i'm not saying Krieder was perfect, or that he didn't need to be sent down early on, but when he did get sent down, and played better, i didn't see him utilized properly.

He came in balls out in the playoffs last year. confident. he made mistakes. he played on.
not allowed this season. frustrated, because we still cant score and he could have made a difference.

pretty soon it might not matter much. He's a top 6 talent that HAS to work out here.

I completely understand where you are coming from. I understand not wanting to create that sense of entitlement. However, I just do not believe he handled Kreider properly this year. Even when the kid came back from stints in the minors, he would be demoted to the 4th line or is ice time would be diminished even if he didn't make a mistake out there. There were plenty of players not producing but they were allowed to keep taking their regular shift? It's hypocritical. JT Miller comes up and was getting worse and worse, but yet Torts kept playing him. He gave a longer leash to Miller because he plays more to Torts' liking. It is hard to sit here and say no Torts is not biased when he coaches. I have tried to tell myself that because I loved when we hired him. But, it is just too evident.

Glad we make the playoffs every year. That's something to be proud of, I guess. I also guess it is unheard of to let a talented rookie take up 1 spot in your top 9 on a regular basis.
I can't think of one winning team that would've even considered Kreider the way we did after the lockout ended based on how abysmal he was in Hartford.

Kreider is a player that wasn't ready at the beginning of the season. He was more a liability than he was a positive on the ice.

Nothing about his time in the AHL screamed pure goal scorer.

I would play Kreider with stepan and Nash and tell them go wild . Score and be the number one PP. Richards will be gone as will clowe (clarkson) I can only dream of a second line with Broussard between cally and clarkson,

Well I think I called that one pretty well lol love this kid as a offensive player let the horse run

TGFK

Thank God For Kreider

None of us are idiots and we all knew we needed him out there
